PhatWill
There was a lot of talk on here before the Wycombe away game that it was a MUST WIN game, which frankly was simply not true. Saturday is a must win game if we have promotion aspirations. I know charity starts at home but we've been taking the bloody ###### at home this season. I won't be putting money on us either like I did for the Posh home game. So, it has to be 3 points for City against Luton. I'm going with a 2-0 victory - Peacock and Roberts with the goals... Guest pogue mahone
there is no such thing as a "must win" game at this stage of the season
fct
Must win games? City are becoming draw specialists, particularly 1-1s. Last season's Luton home match was a 1-1, any bets against the same happening on Saturday? Although we haven't got Beadle here this time to equalise in the 95th minute. red_pill
that's impressively specific... Why aren't all games MUST WIN games? I'd be surprised if Danny tells the team to take it easy for a game, so it will be interesting come April...

PhatWill
Its not neccassary to win every game to win promotion. If we have promotion aspirations then we must win this game. We have given away too many points at home this season and it is absolutely vital to have a solid home record. FACTS.

We have given away too many points at home this season and it is absolutely vital to have a solid home record. FACTS. point 1 - of course not point 2 - you can not pick on an individual game and say that it is a "must win" game until it is mathematically necessary. as an analogy was man u vs fulham a "must win" game for the home side, are they any less likely to reach their goal because they didn't beat fulham ? point 3 - yes and yes, but this season the division is as tight as a nun's chuff and it looks as though anyone who can put together a 6 or 7 match run together at any stage over the 30 or so remaining games will probably be right up there. SimplyRed
When all around us are losing their heads, it's important to keep ours. I think it is more significant to NOT LOSE at this stage of the season. We have only lost 3 of 16 games - that is more important than the win/draw columns, as long as we stay in touch with the league leaders.
cheshire_red
Would you kindly take the time to explain your reasononing behind that statement? Surely winning more than you draw and lose is the key. We need to average 2 points per game, a draw only provides 1 point. I am very confused by your reasoning, either you are Danny in diguise or you have your tongue firmly placed in your cheek, or maybe the hour of the post provides another clue. Agreed we have only lost 3 in 16 but how many have we won, we are the pools punters favourites. Disturbingly we have drawn a number of games which were either home or away bankers depending on where we were playing. Only 1 of the draws, QPR, was creditable. Even the other Promotion favourites SW were there for the taking, unfortunately we never seemd to want it (allegedly from what I have read on here) and were happy to settle for a draw. Smell the coffee this morning, wins are vital to attain 85 points plus and it is often easier to attain them now than later in the season when teams are desperate for points for promo/play-off places or relegation issues (Chesterfield last season for example. Therefore although 3 points against Luton are not absolutely vital at this stage of the season but they will be easier to obtain now than towards the end of the season at Kenilworth Road. SimplyRed
Therefore although 3 points against Luton are not absolutely vital at this stage of the season. You answered the question of my reasoning yourself with the above quote. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear - my point was that, at this stage of the season and as long as we stay in touch with the leaders, it is not absolutely vital that we win. It is absolutely vital that we DO NOT LOSE. Yes I agree we need to win as many games as possible, especially at home, but if we remain within spitting distance of the leaders, it is not the end of the world. Sooner or later, we'll have a purple patch and string a few wins together. Providing we are still 'up there', it should take us to the top.
