Southend Fail In Bid For Goater

Southend manager Steve Tilson has revealed Reading striker Shaun Goater turned down the chance to join them.

Tilson was keen on bringing the 35-year-old to Roots Hall ahead of their League One campaign.

"Shaun was someone we were looking at," Tilson said. "He has a very good record and would have done a good job for us.

"But he wants to carry on playing in the Championship and doesn't want to drop down into League One, which is a shame from our point of view."

The Bermuda international is vastly experienced, having played for the likes of Rotherham, Bristol City, Manchester City and Coventry.

Ok, so he wants to stay in The Championship. We will not be getting him in any sort of swap deal............

..........Or did he turn them down because he knows something we don't.

It's been a long night
