The Heart Of The Problem

Every good football team is built upon a solid spine.

For example, at Man Utd you have Van der Sar, Ferdinand, Keane and Van Nistelrooy, four quality players who (with the exception of the new keeper) have played together for many seasons and have been the rock of a successful team.

Last season we had a fairly solid spine to our team, with Phillips, Coles, Doherty and Lita.

This gave us a solid keeper, a good League One defender, a tenacious midfielder and a pacy attacker.

This season, three out of those four have departed and the incoming players have yet to fill their boots.

We have the beginnings of a spine to our team, with Phillips and Heywood at the back, but IMO not one of the midfielders or strikers has stood out enough to be one of the inspirational players needed at the spine of a successful team.

Tinnion needs to decide, sooner rather than later, on a midfielder and a striker that he wants to form part of this spine, and give the four "spine" players a decent run in the team TOGETHER, without mixing and matching.

The sooner we have a solid spine to our team, the sooner results will improve.
