Not A Good Thing That Australia Have Qualified

Never to the dark side

Recommended Posts

Now, before any one jumps on my back let me put my two penneth

The population of Uruguay is approx 3,000 000

The population of Australia is approx 20,000 000

theres more money in the OZ economy than the Uruguay

considering that a lot of Aussies have european blood in thier veins

this might be the time they will think heavyly about going to Europe/germany

returning to the population that means seven times as many will

want to attend the matches, hence less tickets for others

which could include England.

If the seeding goes according to plan England will be a number one seed

With Oz being a number four seed

Can you imagine the price of match day tickets and even less of them

with a England v Oz drawn against one another in the qualifiyers

let alone later rounds

Thankyou for your 2p worth, and now I'll jump on your back. ;).

Fantastic achievement for Luke, even if he didn't have to kick a ball to do it :D - if he gets picked, and if he's still with us come the finals.

Where's yer bloody spine, man? Not saying that Uruguay would have been a squash match, but an encounter against Oz would be a mini-spectacle at any rate- tickets would be hard enough to get anyhoo, but an England/Oz football match would have the media's undivided attention for at least 2 weeks preceeding the match. And there'll be more pressure to bunk off work to watch it if it's an afternoon KO :D

And another thing- Alcohol is forbidden from sale to English fans. So come the inevitable street brawl, sober Poms who know what they're doing vs drunken 'Roos...

Sephjnr, care of otib.co.uk., does not condone football-related violence between members of the general public.

There might be 20 million people in Australia, but very few of them like football.Rugby, cricket and aussi rules are the big sports out there. When i mentioned football whilst travelling out there they refer to it in a racially very derogatory way (***ball).

Think the football loving uruguayians would probably take more tickets-so top result-although nothing to do with Bristol city really (except we may be supplying one of their subs/squad players).

This is nonsense. Typical British pessimism! 2 reasons for this on my part -

1) Australia having to qualify twice (through a group and then via a playoffs) is a complete injusticeand has been for years. Yes, granted more people per capita may be interested in football in Uruguay than Oz but frankly Uruguay finished 4th in their league and they just didn't deserve it. Look at the minnows who have qualified - Togo, Angola and then one of Bahrain or Trinidad - come off it Australia are going to be better than those.

2) England may be granted the opportunity to "Clean Sweep" the aussies by beating them at Cricket, Rugby and now football. How much gloating could we get away with. The coverage alone would make it a great occassion. I for one think that once Australia are there (especially with Hiddink as coach) you'll see a decent team offering decent opposition.

An injustice?.....so they beat Soloman islands 20-0 and should make it from that...........wake up

I am glad to see the aussies have qualified

but think it was unfair that they had to play off

What i cant understand is why

there are FIVE African countries in the finals

and only FOUR from South America

I am sure Uruguay and Chile would give us harder games than

Togo and Angola

but then FIFA knows whats best for world football don't they

Right thats it, next time i see a German in England i'm going to handcuff him and interrogate him until he admits he's here to plan a German invasion....and if he resists!!! :fear:

GB = great britain which means you can have n.ireland, scotland

and wales in your side.

That's the idea. But it could be that some of the better players have not been English. Don't confuse Britain with England... a common misconception by foreign nationals.

England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland is the UK, as in "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"
