Brown, 25, played in a training match behind closed doors after Rangers gave the Tykes permission to field him. Boss Andy Ritchie told Barnsley's website: "We had a look at Aaron after Rangers gave us permission to play him in a game. "But I don't think he's ready to play in the first team and I need players to be ready to step into the side and Aaron isn't there at the moment."
