sirscrumpton
Yep a great shame. He was never the rider he once was after he was banned. R.I.P

TinnionForEngland
Never heard of him but it's very sad to hear of another Sporting Death, or any death for that matter, R.I.P!
bcfc seattle
Ya gotta love the riders who just destroy people in the montains. I'm thinking Tyler Hamilton is going to take Lance this year though.
elhombrecito
I'm thinking Tyler Hamilton is going to take Lance this year though. Especially considering how well he did whilst injured last year. Either way it should be a great fight. But, as usual I'll be holding on to the outrageous hope that David Millar can win it! Incidentally back on topic, Lance's views on the tragedy: Armstrong salutes Pantani Armstrong (left) and Pantani had a bitter rivalry Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong has paid tribute to Italian rival Marco Pantani, who died on Saturday aged 34. The pair staged intense battles during the 1999 and 2000 Tour de France races, both of which Armstrong won. "This is terrible and shocking news," said the American, who fell out with Pantani over events in those Tours. "Regardless of our battles on and off the bike, I had a deep respect for Marco. Cycling has indeed lost a great champion and a great personality." Cycling mourns Pantani Armstrong joined a long list of cycling celebrities in mourning Pantani's death. "My thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans," he said. Tour de France director Jean-Marie Leblanc denied Pantani entry into the last two Tours, following a failed drugs test. But he admitted that the Italian "marked the history of cycling by being the last great climber of the generations of climbers that we've known". Former world champion Laurent Jalabert added: "Undoubtedly it hit him hard when he was thrown off the Tour of Italy in 1999. He probably did a few things he shouldn't have, but he didn't get the chance to kickstart a career off the bike." Jalabert added: "But Pantani was a genius... It wouldn't be fair to summarise his life with issues of doping and depression."
devonred
Was a shock to hear that on the news, could always rely on Marco for a show in the mountains and he'll be greatly missed. Have a feeling that the Armstrong era is over.........or is it just wishful thinking!!!
