My Review Of The City Team Vs Bournemouth

This was a real team performance from the lads. A lot of passing and moving, looking for space, helping each other out, it was like watching a Danny Wilson side. Something we havent seen much of in the last 2 seasons.

BASSO: Marshalled his area well. Came out bravely when needed, and got down nicely to block close-range shots. Not at fault for Hayter's wonder-strike.

ORR: A commanding performance. Lots of possession, his distribution is improving.

WOODMAN: Didnt let his man past him. A bit one-footed (a la Tinman), but that left fot floated in a couple of juicy crosses towards the end of the game. This run of games in the frirst team will benefit him enormously.

CAREY & FONTAINE: Superb partnership, Heywood wasnt missed. Athletic, great positioning. Mopped up nicely at the back. Intelligent passing out of defence too.

SKUSE & NOBLE: Skuse ably protected the defence, snuffing out many attacks before they got too far. His constant running and harrying upset Bournemouth's stride. Noble was a classy distributor, looking for space, enabling the attacks to move forward, didnt give too much away.

COTTERILL: His running and tracking-back were an asset to the team, part of the reason for Orr looking so assured. Is tricksy runs from the middle of the park looked dangerous, but his tricksy runs from the wing tended to end up at the corner flag. If he spends his summer working on his crossing, he will be invaluable.

MURRAY: A bit anonymous at times, but that is expected when City play the majority of their wideplay down the right channel. Missed a great set-up from McCammon in the first half, but overall, when he did have possession, his passing was unselfish.

McCAMMON: Big, strong, won a lot in the air, was always looking for space. Muscled defenders off the ball. Can tell he's played at a higher level, his use of space and positioning, especially in the first half, was immense. Ran his socks off too.

BROOKER: A real captain's performance. Worked tirelessly, took the knocks, was a handful for two defenders. His strength, determination, awareness and striker's eye for goal bagged us a couple of much-deserved goals.

Subs:

SAVAGE: Worked hard, showed determination. A couple of tricks came off nicely, a couple didnt, but was a very effective sub.

RUSSELL: Calmed the midfield down well, neat distribution.

BROWN: Didnt have much to do, but ran well in the centre of the park.

All in all, let this team play together and the performances will improve. Let's hope we can sign Fontaine permanently, and, if he always plays like this, i'd like to see McCammon in a city shirt next season too.

Good review! I agree that carey and fontaine look good together, that is the sort of partnership we need back there, is there any chance of signing fontaine permanetly? For me heywood's lack of pace is what lets him down. Just a bit worried about murray, he's to quiet for long periods of the game, maybe a replacement is needed for next season?

Agreed with majority of this review mate, but the ".....it was like watching a Danny Wilson side........" i totally do not agree with! We need to forget this man who failed over 4 seasons. We looked far mor fluent yesterday and a better side overall.

I think somebody else may have already said this but it just shows how much Cotterill has matured when he passed the ball to McCammon for the first goal, whereas not so long ago, he would have been a bit more selfish, tried to score himself, and fluffed it against the side netting.

Hats off to Cotts in my opinion, hes learning.
