American boxing legend Floyd Patterson passed away on Thursday at the age of 71. The first man ever to regain the world heavyweight title, and an all-time great, was suffering with Alzheimers and cancer.

He was a silky boxer but came unstuck against Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston.

MEANWHILE...

Manchester's Ricky Hatton meets Luis Collazo on Saturday night to tussle for the WBA welterweight crown.

Eyebrows were raised when the fairly low-profile champion Collazo was named as the Hitman's opponent but this is no easy contest. Hatton moves up a weight and fights Stateside for the first time. Add to that an awkward southpaw opponent with only one defeat to his name and you have a stern test.

This fight is of huge significance for Hatton's career as he attempts to break America, a rare acheivement for Brit fighters. A win could improve his chances of meeting the world's pound-for-pound best boxer, Floyd 'Pretty Boy' Mayweather, later this year in what would be a prospect as mouthwatering as Bruno - Tyson and Cooper - Ali.

COME ON RICKY!!!

American boxers are over hyped, they don't give British fighters any respect and they lack heart. Watching Calzaghe take Lacey to school was an absolute pleasure. Hatton will be more the British Bulldog than the professor but I'll enjoy it just the same watching him batter Collazo into submission inside 3 rounds.

I'm not into boxing all that much, you know that, but I'm sorry the guy died, seems like a great loss to the world of boxing and boxing commentators.

And good luck to.. Ricky!?!? in the competition thing! :D

what do you think of prince nazeem being sent to prision

for 15 months.( or was it band for 15 months) for hit and run accident.

just head this on the news.

Deserves everything he gets. Was a crazy dangerous move on a blind part of the road in an attempt to show off. The guy's a complete idiot, was in the ring and is out of it. And his family were angry after he was sent down? Its a disgrace.
