mozo
Just a general talking point:Horace Andy in all his warbling, reggae soulfulness sang: "money, money, money - it's the root of all evil"Whilst Pink Floyd themselves declared the sinfulness of money. But we live in a capitalist world where currency is treasured...so how do we feel about money??Blah? Does that feeling of disappointment then breed resentment for the way that you are put through such anguish on a regular basis? Do you feel nailed to the capitalist cross? Do you feel nailed to the capitalist cross? Not really, the disappointent is quickly tempered by relief that i didn't try to pay with one of last month's old Kleenexes. WTFiGO!?!
It certainly takes the edge off of poverty. Prefer wealth of spirit myself though.I think everybody has to have things that drives and motivates them, money does it for some but not for others. It's not what I'd be able to buy as such but what having lot's of the stuff would enable me to do that would make the difference for me.Also it's a bit of a bastard how much of an influence it has on life, why do we have to get out of bed? I used to be of the opinion the human condition was meant for socialisation, like the whale one is, just go round the sea chillin' and doing our thing, work I now believe is essential for well being. Still going to build me a robot that pretty much does everything I tell it too though, ''go make me some money Chief'', ''Ok boss''.Earning your living and economics ain't the same thing though is it? Dunno, confusing myself now.

The Batman
As working for my student union, we have to go to all these conferences and NUS drill into our heads that we're all about representing the students and providing them a service. Not about money making. So, i wonder over to one of their representatives and say...'That's all well and good, but how do we represent the students, if we don't get the money from the majority of people that want to use our services?'(this was because one evening in our SU a few years back, the LGBT (lesbain, Gay, Bisexual and Transvestite) society wanted to use one of our rooms to have a 'coffee meeting', which happened to be the same room where the big screen is and co-incidently was the same night as a Champions League match)So the 300 (give or take) students who wanted to use one of the bars couldn't because 6 people wanted to have a coffee break, because IT'S ABOUT REPRESENTATION.b0110cks to that for a game of toy soilders, nothing like that is happening when i'm working for this place. We are about making money, otherwise we can't represent the students, but very few people for NUS actually have any common sense with regards to money making, NUS might as well stand for National Union of Socialists. They're thinking of banning coca-Cola because some extreme lefties think they're bad, we honestly don't know how much we'd lose, but our last estimate we had would be in the region of 80,000 that we're going to lose out on through sales and advertising, but as long as a few commies and NUS are happy, they don't give a rats arse about students. IT'S ABOUT MONEY MAKING...ok, rant over. enjoy the sunshine.
barry_manc
I'm not arsed about money, and I don't care about making a million etc because, well, thats just show boating isnt it. I'm happy to just not have to think about money and to spend when I fancy... Then again... I was like that from January this year when I silly women paid off my overdraft, when you're spending just because you can like that you spend a bloody fortune. I'd be getting in from a nightout with mates round at about 3 in the morning, and still spending £100 on the crateman etcetc. It gets silly. So, I surpose what I'm trying to say is... I'm not motivated to have money, but I'm bloody motivated when I've not got money. Take this month, get paid tomorrow. £300 on rent. £150 on bills from old house. £100 I owe. £100 on council tax. Then I'm funked for the month. Second job is needed, woopedoo. Now that's motivation

The Fat Controller
I recently turned down a job offer on £3,500 less per annum that the one i accepted.Money isnt everything.... and i get the school holidays off as well hehehe.I'm also in "debt" to the tune of £300 to the parents. Partly paid for one of my holidays. Money well spent if you ask me, ok, i wont get the money back, but i had an experience. I'm damn sure that where all my money will be going-on travelling. A friend of mine has done the same sort of thing, has spent what I'm guessing must be thousands, on going away for 3months for the last three summers. She's had to borrow the money, but again, must be damn worth if for the experience.I understand the importance of earning money to pay bills etc, and not spending beyond your means, but you only live once, and you only get to spend that money once, so it may as well be on something worthwhile - hopefully a month or so in South Africa next summer! City Rocker
Radio 1's travesty of a replacement for Radcliffe & Lard - Colon & Eejit - just played a Beatles tune proclaiming: "I don't care too much for moneyMoney can't buy me love".So that clears that one up then Or does it? Macca probably wishes he'd written the far more realistic Floyd classic which teaches us:"Money, it's a gas.Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash"
Sir Colby-Tit
I'm not keen on money but I am quite partial to the things you can buy with it. I am so pissed off with working within the corporate quagmire at the moment that I am considering packing it in and re-educating myself in something "fun". Any suggestions?
