Psycho Glenn
Saw Steve Phillips down the Gym this morning, looking totally miserable. Either:A. Paul Trollope has dropped him after saturday and he has already chucked his toys out.B. He remembered that he had actually signed for the sad sags and he is living the nightmare.C. He had to wear their cr*p blue shorts with the camp pirate on it to the gym.D. All of the above.

The Fat Controller
so you are saying that you agree that he is the best keeper in BRISTOL then If he was the best keeper in Bristol then he would be playing for the best team in Bristol. He isnt, and therefore is not.Weale, when fit, will prove to be the best 'keeper in the City.

I would debate that. They are different, and have different qualities, but neither is better. Its a matter of opinion however you look at it anyway. malaggro
it wasnt cos our defence was carp and keep changing every week its because phillips is a carp keeper?? I doubt the quality of Phillips' fish tending skills had much to do with Johnson not playing him.

To call Phillips a "terrible player" is wholly inaccurate too. He may not be the complete article but he is certainly a very good goalkeeper. solo1bc
I think the debate depends on what qualities you think are needed to be a 'quality keeper'Skill, Temperament, Athleticism, Dominance (is that a word?!), Concentration, Attitude?Phillips has got some but is sorely lacking in others. I agree with rumbellows comment too... If he's such a quality player, why is the only contract he could get is with the gasheads?Basso's only fault seems to be on the concentration front but he seems to have the other qualities in abundence so I really don't understand why people have a problem with him? Nibor
Basso's only fault seems to be on the concentration front but he seems to have the other qualities in abundence so I really don't understand why people have a problem with him?Because in my view he has plenty more faults. He's erratic, he flaps at half the high balls he comes at and his kicking is abysmal. I sincerely believe that other than attitude he is a worse player than Phillips in nearly every department. It's a pity the loan siging we've made appears to be just cover rather than someone to genuinely challenge. I think we should have been in for Konstantopoulous over the summer with Weale and let both Phillips and Basso go personally.
Rich-TWSC-
Although times may have changed. There was definately a time when Steve Phillips was one of/if not the best goalkeeper at third tier level.
bh_red
Yes of course he is, After look at all clubs who were fighting each other to sign him and in the end he chose the pick of the bunch.wouldn't say Rovers were best pick of the bunch at all, club wise I'd say it was without doubt the worst pick of the 4, but it was the most convienent, he is a somerset lad and that's where he wanted to stayhe would have been much better off at Tranmere, Vale or Mk dons, but understandable he didn't want to move his family.
