Keith Millen

We are told that he is one of the best coaches we could have - he has all the qualifications after all. But how many people are good at passing exams yet when it comes to doing an effective job they can often be quite useless.

We've shipped 10 goals in the last 4 games. Under Tinnion, Millen was the specialist defensive coach like when we lost 7-1 at Swansea ; I've never been convinced by this guy. Who remembers the Chesterfield game [04/05] when he took Tins off after we had played ourselves back into the game ? Was he ever going to support Tins if he knew his Watford buddy GJ was next in line for the role ?

Over to you - good coach or not ?

Untried and untested coach.Very few make the transfer from player to coach/ manager with instant success.

Whether we`ve got enough time and patience to learn his trade with us who knows.

here we go again, we lose a few games and the figure gets pointed his way!

as for supporting Tins, he backed him after all Tinnion gave him the job! how did anyone know that GJ was going to take over after!

good god some crap gets spouted on this forum later!

he's been a coach at the club for 4 years though so it's not like he is new to it really!

Actually Tinnion was told he had Millen as his number two when on his own admission he would have preferred a more experienced No.2

is that correct? I thought it was his own choice? Which I found pretty gob smacking at the time. I was one of the tinman for manager mob!! but even i think he needed an old hand to help him.

No, Millen was Tinnion's choice, and th Lansdown has confirmed it since, Tinnion decided he wanted Millen as number, Tinnion promoted Millen from u17 academy coach

Blame the manager not the coach, he is the one who picks the team. Tactics and formation on the pitch, the manager has the last word. A coach can show a player what he should be doing in a certain position but if the manager plays that player in a different position and he does not perform you cannot blame the coach. But why is it we are always looking for a scapegoat to blame when things don't go right?.

Does that mean that everyone who passes exams is incompetent?

He's been a coach or assistant under 3 managers now and none have seen fit to sack him, even GJ who could have brought his old assistant in.

Totally untrue. He was the assistant manager.

I've never been convinced by this guy.

I doubt you've ever been trained by him or watched him take a training session either so I don't see how you could be.

All this post says is "Our defence is crap and Keith Millen used to be a defender so it must be his fault". Sorry but it's a completely unsupportable leap to make.

2 former city players told me hes a quality coach, one of em said to me that "the real shame about tinnion going is he might take millen with him, and that wont be fair".

there were some on here who just could not accept that brian tinnion was a terrible manager, they pushed the blame onto anyone other than him, because of his legend status, kieth millen bore the brunt but i for one was glad gj kept him.

its still a bit feest or famine with gj so far, I'm still hoping we can do sumut this year but there going to have to improve soon before its too late.

if gj fails then I'm sure it will be a total clear out, including km, lets hope we don't need to do that.

but then he must have had an influence during the last half of last season in which our defence were superb!

Never been a big fan of keith millen. Under Tinman he never looked that involved or interested. I have always thought that City could do with a better assistant than Keith... but who really knows what sort of influence he has on the team.

As for our defence being solid at the back end of last season, this was mainly to do with the introduction of Fontaine, Carey being employed in his prefered position of Centre half, and Woodman starting to perform at left back. Not forgeting Bradley Orr doing a superb job playing out of position on the right.

Overall, I think Millen was over rated as a player and for that reason can only pass on the knowledge of his own experience, which IMHO, is why we continue to leak goals, even at the start of this season. Last seasons change in defensive quality was purely down to the fact the players realised we had to start playing and defending better, otherwise, we were really going to get into a dogfight at the bottom - nothing to do with Keith Millens coaching qualities I'm afraid.
