Reasons We Are Not A Big Club

We don`t get national exposure,

We don`t have any "star" players,

The ground is nice but looks dated,

We don`t have a history in top flight.

The life cycle of new fans is about 5-6 years.

After this time a new fan will either decide to stick at it or go off and get married, get a proper job etc. In other words get a bit bored of it and find something else to spend their money on.

It is a wild generalisation but pretty accurate.

So we are now on our second/third generation of new fans since our last stint in a higher league.

The longer this goes on the smaller our club becomes. Yes we can still take 40,000 to cardiff etc but this is because of the number of part time fans we generate (see above) during the long periods of failure.

The club needs money, They can`t get the money they need from the new generation fans because they simply havn`t got any so the club gets smaller.

They try to entice the 30 somethings with new seats and baps but we are bored of the failure so the club arn`t getting the money they need from us either. (How full is the Premier seating?)

We are in a downward spiral and the only thing that will get us out of it is a fluke season, the sad thing is that this fluke season is just as likely to be a regalation fluke as it is a promotion one.

We are not a big club, who knows if we ever will be?

Does this make us a 'BIG' club?

Whats your point Swindon?

You have no history of top flight football worth remembering...a season in the top division where you were the worst team to ever have been there!

Again I wasn't trying to be clever.

What he was listed doesn't make a big club.

Were not a big club.

Nottingham Forest are a big club

European Champions etc

I'd be interested to see any evidence you have to back-up that amazing statistic!! Is it a wild generalisation or is it pretty accurate?

The only reason we are ever considered a big Club is due to the population density of our catchment are. Out of the top ten City's for size we must have the lowest average placing in the Football hierachy. 2 Club's is the main problem (along with a spectacularly unsuccessful history) dare I say it: Bristol United is the solution  and that ain't happening.

I reckon Bristol must be up there as one of the largest cities in Europe without a top flight team, which is pretty depressing really.

The simple fact is, we are not a big club, as we've done nothing in 30-odd years to justify being labelled as one. A 'sleeping giant' maybe, though comatose would be more apt.
