No doubt a new stadium with numerous executive boxes will detract from the "Bristol your City" nonsence and provide a far better venue to entertain clients or even take kids for people deciding what club to follow.

It won't happen, street parking is already an issue there at their 11k capacity. Theres no way that area can accomadate 18k. Also knot sure where the space to build the new stands is to as they've already sold off half their car park.

Agree it is highly unlikely, however it is still a signal of intent. If it does come to fruition the gap between them and us would be closed very quickly, and I would go as far as saying they would be far more attactive to investors.

Can't see that getting planning permission in a million years.

112 hotel bedrooms, 105 student flats and yet only 183 parking spaces. Thats before the chaos on a matchday - where are the other 4,500 people going to park?!! (or even 10,000 for the rugby!).

Looking at where the ground is, it is totally unsuitable for that type of development being surrounded by residential roads on all 4 sides. They are not going to like having more students on their doorsteps what with all the noise and parking problems. Then there will be games on every weekend and some midweek nights.

And would'nt they have to move out for 1-2 years while the work is completed? Only Forest Green can fit them in so I recall!!

why do they need it? they are 18th in league 2, skint and although they have large attendances for their division they don't need another 10k capacity on their average gates.

i know people will say the same issues apply to us but tbh i'm not really bothered about us getting more capacity at the gate, just being able to fill it 5 weeks out of 10 (idealy in a higher division) would make me happy!

all these brand spanking new stadiums for the likes of darlington, doncaster and even blooming oxford not too long back and what does it mean? more empty seats. what does that achieve? nothing.

rant over, sorry folks!

Right, let me suggest people try and look over the amount of seating, or the planning issues (This type of developement is liked by town planners so this isn't as doomed as what some suggest).

This venture would provide the premier stadium in Bristol. It is a worry as our long term future seems to hinge on Sexton and Lansdowns plans to make non-matchday revenue from Ashton Gate.

May i suggest you do the lottery tomorrow night, because you have got more chance of winning that than Rovers having a premier stadium in Bristol,i do agree that both Bristol clubs needs draging into the 21st centery but untill one of the clubs start to be win things this will never happen.

An interesting point is that the eggchasers will need a 15,000 capacity ground by 2010/11 if they're to stay in the rugby Premiership. I suppose if they don't get the upgrades then we might have to put them up :o

Can't see it happening. I remember a mate of my Dad's years ago (a city fan) telling me how he'd organised a campaign to scupper Rovers' plans to build a stadium somewhere - Wick? This was back in the early 90s when they were still at Trumpton.

Wick? or Wick Wick? Big difference, the latter is on the ring road (A4174) and ther eis a lot of potential building land there. Every time I pass it (too bloody often) I think how suitable it would be for a decent stadium. :(

I think the same about Keynsham

Bath Rugby would like to build a new stadium, would be interesting to see what type of joint bid City and Bath could come up with for that area.

Not quite sure where though, you wouldn't want to add much more traffic to the A4. The existing football rugby and school grounds down on the main road are built on flood plains which wouldn't really work and unfortunately the Chocolate factory grounds has been earmarked for houses in the next 2 years. The latter would be have been OK but you would need to build a new access road from the A4 and that doesn't come cheap.

Wick Wick has roads already partially built into the light industrial area which would reduce costs.

BANES would like Wellsway and Broadlands to merge. The money gained from selling the Wellsway site could pay for the biggest and most well equiped school in the county.

The Wellsway plot is obviously well suited, being next to two major roads (The Bath Road and the Wellsway) and a dual carridgeway. Rail station 10 minute walk away.

Pure conjecture of course, and probably less likely than Bin Laden becoming Pope, but we can all dream!

However it would suit both parties, andstill be within easy reach of the red "heartland"

Firstly why the hell would we want to link up with the scum that are bath, when bris will need a new home in a few years and secondly why the hell would city want to relocate to another town??!!!

:dunno:

Rovers can signal their intent as much as they like but until there is any real and firm investment and planning consent I don't think Mr Sexston should panic.

The trouble is that if such a proposed merger were to go ahead, the Wellsway site would make a better combined school, especially as it has it's own playing fields etc and is already a specialist "sports academy" type school. Selling the Broadlands school would create a prime area for houses and generate some useful income. The broadlands site is not suitable for a ground.

Funny how all this crops up just as the heat on Dunceford is being turned up. And please read the article. A decision MAY be made NEAR the end of the year. Remember all the poor sods with vouchers for a brick in the rebuilt East End Hirerite Colin Sextoy Stand?

As a very close, indeed adjacent neighbour of the Memorial ground, I'm seriously considering raising objections to the planning application.

But my concerns are honestly based on genuine fears about parking and congestion problems and have nothing to do with wanting to undermine Bristol Rovers Football Club.

:whistle::shifty::rolleyes:
