SAME AGAIN PLEASE - PHILLIPS

Steve Phillips interview

Steve Phillips is hoping Bristol City fans concentrate on him and

forget their team in this evening's derby at the Memorial Stadium.

The Rovers goalkeeper said he "thoroughly enjoyed" last week's

somewhat hostile atmosphere at Ashton Gate, and is looking forward

to further taunts from the away fans tonight.

"They hammered me all game last week, but I thoroughly enjoyed the

atmosphere," Steve told bristolrovers.co.uk, "If I was a supporter

and a player moved to a rival club, I would do exactly the same, so

I have no problem with that.

"If they cane me all game tonight and don't cheer on their own team,

then I'll be happy with that. It's sticks and stones, it was the

same the other night - I knew I was going to get loads of stick but

it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

"I'm not the kind of player that goes under in that kind of

situation, in a strange kind of way I like it."

The game itself is likely to be a tight affair, with Steve believing

the first goal will be crucial.

"It's delicately poised, and it's going to be a very tough game," he

said, "We were outstanding at the Gate, and to bring them back with

a 0-0 is a great job from our point of view.

"We know it's going to be a very difficult game, and I think it will

be very close. I don't think either side is going to win by three or

four, and I think it's going to be about whoever scores the first

goal and takes their chances on the night.

"City will be favourites, and quite rightly. They've got talent all

over the pitch, and up in the stands watching. Their squad is

enormous, they've got 26 players to choose from, and we've got about

16, which is why they are top of the league above."

Steve is confident the home fans can play a big part is helping

Rovers stand the best chance of pulling off an upset, and he's

looking forward to a great atmosphere tonight.

"It's going to be a fantastic atmosphere, and we're going to need

the fans behind us," he said, "My relationship with the supporters

is very good, and hopefully after tonight it will be enhanced even

more."

In fact, ignoring loans, our sqauds are of similar size - we have about 30 and they have about 27. So, not that different at all really.

If he enjoyed getting a battering then why when 'Oh Basso' was sung by the Atyeo Stand did Steve Phillips bow his head in shame..........?????

The way I see it is all the stick he got deep down did bother him. You cannot spend 10 years at a club and not have any feelings for it.....

All this hype about him having a good game at the Gate is rubbish-he had nothing to do!

If there's one thing we know about Phillips, it's that he IS effected by abuse from the crowd. Latest example was at Barrow when he was hit by a coin from behind the goal and then preceeded to concede 2 dodgy goals from corners.

At City he never took stick well and had several run-ins with City fans.

Let the abuse commence - and we WILL rattle him!

Well I hope your fans wont think about doing anything like that. Lets be honest here, Phillips cant win with the red side of town, last week there was a thread saying 'why's flapper quiet', some of you were moaning about that and now your moaning about what he has said.

Why don't we all get over it, your happy with your keeper and we are happy with ours.

No, we're happy with both of ours!!!!

Plenty of CITY fans had had enough of phlappa well before he left the GATE. We had a thread on another site where we had a competition changing his personalised number plate well before he left, and there wasn't any complimentary ones!!

he may be better than what you had, but that is an indictment of how low you have fallen!!!

Problem is he doesnt know when to keep his mouth shut. Thats what lets him down. Its nothing to do with his goalkeeping abilities anymore its his attitude.

But when he does keep his mouth shut he gets slated for that. Surely it is old news now, I think everyone should move on and realise tonight isnt just about Steve Phillips, and whatever happens lets hope the games passes by without any trouble to fans or players.

I'm sure after tonight he will shut up. Until then with stories like hes doing isnt helping him much.

I don't see too much in that interview that is inflammatory at all to be honest. All he was saying is that he doesn't give a monkeys if he gets abuse tonight (how shocking, string him up!!) and that City have quality all over the park and in the stands and that Rovers are going to have to play well to win (obviously I missed the irony, he was really taking the p1$$ and should be stoned on site!!).

My honest opinion is that the one with all the mouth last week was Gary Johnson and it backfired on him. Thankfully, he has kept his powder dry so far this week.

Thank goodness someone else feels the same way I do, I don't like the bloke and never did, ever since his mad rush out to trip over Kevin Philips that lost us a point at home to sunderland years ago.

However, what do we expect him to say? nothing he said in the lastest piece is a problem for me.

Hopefully, he will not get the chance to play the hero tonight and we sink them before 90 minutes.

Flapper will blow it for you tonight he is no good in the rain as we City fans know when we played Notts County a few years back.

A Saghead stopped me in town today as I was wearing my City jacket and I was told that Philips was going to be your SAVIOUR.

If thats not hyping Philips what was is! Come on you Reds. May the best team win.
