Charges follow football violence

A further four people have been charged after scuffles outside a pub in Bristol following a football match.

The trouble erupted between fans of Bristol Rovers and Lincoln City on Saturday 12 May, following the match at the Memorial Stadium.

Richard Sperring, 20, Curtis Allan Parker, 19, Martin Gallacher, 36, and a 17-year-old boy, all from Bristol, have been charged with violent disorder.

They are due to appear before Bristol magistrates on 31 May.

The latest arrests brings to 12 the number of people held in connection with the violence.

And this is that hotbed of hooligans Lincoln City for gawds sake!

First violence at new Wembley on its way no doubt

From what I understand, the trouble had nothing to do with Lincoln fans...it started when police went into the Cabot to arrest some rovers fans, the lincoln fans had long gone

Again, sloppy media reporting. By implying that Lincoln fans were involved suggets that the two clubs supporters were equally to blame.....in reality, the blame should be aimed 100% towards rovers supporters.

There was trouble with 'Lincoln' before the game, outside of the Victoria.

There may well have been some scuffles between fans before the game but this was generally not reported (surprise). What was reported was trouble after the game implying that Lincoln were involved when quite clearly they weren't. It may sound pedantic but this type of reporting clouds the issue and detracts attention from the main culprits.....Bristol Rovers hooligans

As quoted correctly by RedRaw above the trouble after the game did not invcolve Lincoln fans- I know some one who was outside the Cabot:

what heppened was that a large number of Gas were drinking inside and outside the pub- the police went into the pub and arrested 1 young lad who had been suspected of being involved in an earlier incident. As the lad was being frogmarched outside to the waiting van he started struggling with the police (mainly to show off and look hard in front of all the gasheads outside the pub) the OB then went completely over the top and brought out the batons are started clubbing him - at this some gas threw beer glasses at the police van, it escalated, more stuff was thrown, more police arrived, etc you get the idea.

Pretty stupid action by the police, they should have either ID'd him & nicked him later or quickly and quietly got him into van and away before anything could start. It reminds me of our game at the Mem when one kid kicked a barrier and the police started swinging the batons and spraying everyone - 99% of us were just standing there waiting to be let out of the $hit hole but got the full brunt of the policeFORCE!

typical sloppy Evening Post, covering up the ever trouble some rovers thugs, all these years we have been getting bad press, when in fact they have had more trouble at games than us in recent times and yet get no coverage

funny thing is, looking on the Rovers forum, a number of them don't think they people involved in trouble outside the ground should be banned from future games?!?

suppose that's lower league football mentality for you!
