bristolcityup Posted August 30, 2007 Share Posted August 30, 2007 I think GJ has a tough dec with the goalkeepers because both in my opinion are worthy of a place..Basso did really well last season and commanded the defense well in the last few games but looks a tat dodgy at handling, Weal on the other hand looks alot more cslmer in situations and his kicking is really good.. That was a much more culprable error than anything Weale did on Saturday, and it cost us two points!As for Basso stopping Mpenza's strike, I severely doubt it! Weale could've done anything to prevent either of those two goals last night, let alone say Basso would've done better. The fact he got an arm to Mpenza's shot last night was a bloody good effort and, nine times out of ten, that would've been enough to divert it over the bar if it weren't for the sheer velocity of it! That was a much more culprable error than anything Weale did on Saturday, and it cost us two pointsNeither keeper were at fault for those goals, weale's "mistake" came at him at a bad angle and he did well to punch away, 2 of our defenders were taken out during the goal so he was left unprotected. with Basso, he was left totally helpless after vasko failed to deal with a long punt, and was beaten to the ball by blackstock because of his pace. He's only played three games in which we have won 1, drawn 1 and lost to a prem team. Remember when Basso 1st came in he had a few dodgy games. Would one have saved that, would the other have made that mistake? For Example, would Weale have not rushed out to try and nick the ball away from Blackstock in the opening game and stopped the goal? Would Basso have stopped Mpenza's strike? Who knows is the answer.Its no use chopping and changing, obviously GJ has made his mind up that over all the time Basso has been number one and comparing the errors with all the time he's had Weale between the sticks that Chris is the better option long term.Unless CW makes numerous howlers (which i don't think he will) he's number one for the foreseeable. They're just desperate to get the "please don't go" PMs.Back on topic, while's i'm sick of the "why isn't X or Y player playing" threads already this season the only cause for concern are players who throw their toys out of the pram or have awful agents as potentially Keogh has or those who get dropped for no apparent reason. Weale i thought had taken his chance when Basso got injured. If he did too he may just go. In a way it's lucky for us that he's had the injuries.
