Thanks Bristol Boy. Sometime you can come across as a bit of a grumpy old man with regards to certain issues, but your reports are still as invaluable as ever and are a really service to those aren't fortunate enough to attend every game :clapping:

Good review BB, a perfect 10 for Basso though? Had a great game don't get me wrong but didn't cammand his area with corners flying into his six yard box in the second half. Could of released the pressure a tad.

I considered that, however, Wednesdays delivery was excellent and I thought that's what kept Basso from coming out and gathering some of the corners-Flat whipped, pacey delivery. He's not the biggest keeper you'll ever see and that's probably another factor.I toyed with a nine but I couldn't think of anything he got wrong and don't think he could have done anymore to win us the game

how dare you give the legendary Marvin Elliott a 6/10, He was much better than that :ranting:

i'll accept that was not his bestest performance he has played in a city shirt, but he was still going out and about and was worth a 7 or 8 at least

Couple of points-You have to chase around a lot if you keep giving the ball away to much and 36% possession tells you that we did.If he was an 8 yesterday then the games against QPR, Scunny & Man City, he'd have been a 12!! :D

As the song goes.......or should go "We've got Marv Elliott, He's ******g brilliant!!"

Good point about Noble, id certainly like to see him given a try along side Elliot away from home.

I've seen us away from home twice in the League and our midfields has been unimpressive. It's only a matter of time before we go one up top and that's the only way you'll fit LJ & DN in the same midfield. It worked a treat last season. We could try DN & ME as you say, but I can't see that happening until LJ is injured.

The thing that stopped Basso coming out was that he was constantly obstructed by the Weds striker and therefore taken out of the game at every corner. To be honest, I'm surprised he didnt make more of a fuss or dived or something because it was blatant. The save he made low to save a shot and someone else cleared the rebound off the line (2nd half) was amazing because he was taken out of the game by their striker for a cross he would normally be able to claim and had to react to the following shot from point blank range. The ref was completely oblivious to this despite the fact that it happened about 4 or 5 times in the second half.

Thought Basso had a great game yesterday. The save from the free kick was amazing given that he had to readjust his body in mid air and get the ball away from goal with his leg when it could have gone anywhere. Thought his handling was very good and even the kicking was faultless. He was obstructed for most of their 2nd half corners but still managed to recover. Competent as Weale is, I don't think we would have got the 3 points without Basso so good decision GJ.

Carey was immense yesterday, particularly in the air and was the best outfield player.

I think Fontaine has settled in at this level so well because he has pace and maybe the strikers we have faced so far have not been as battering ram like as you get in League One. Vasko and McCombe are not exactly quick and neither is Louis so it will be hard for any of them to force their way in.

McAllister defended well but his passing and crossing is awful compared to last season. Everything seems to be overhit. Maybe he should get some new boots or spend a bit more time on the training ground.

Elliott had probably his worst game for us so far but still managed to win the Sky man of the match award, which says a lot.

Johnson was pretty woeful yesterday. His work rate seems to have dropped now he has Elliott alongside him doing 2 mens work. He gave the ball away an awful lot, did not make a challenge until he did that stupid, stupid foul on the edge of the area in the last couple of minutes (that only Basso's brilliant save prevented from becoming an equaliser) and to be honest, McIndoe takes a far better free kick.

I'm baffled as to why we let Alex Russell go on loan. On his day, LJ is worthy of a starting place in midfield. Problem is his day only seems to be 1 in every 10 games. Whether he is GJs son or not, I think that someone else should be given a go for at least one game so that he knows that he is not indispensable. Noble and Elliott would be my first choice partnership.

LT still lacking a bit in strength. I think that Byfield running the channels will help him. We have plenty of choice on the flanks too now. Wilson is good in away games in that he is more defensive and can tuck inside. Then we have Murray and Sproule. Cant wait to see Sproule on the right wing supplying 2 specialist strikers.

Forgot to mention LJ's step over. As an attacking midfielder he should have enough confidence to shoot and at least hit the target. He was in a good position and the ball in was good. And it was obvious that McIndoe hadnt called for it as he was surprised to see LJ leave it for him. That would have sewn the game up for good.

I know Keogh's on loan to Hudds but when did AR go out??

I hope that LJ doesn't become GJ's Achilles Heel.

Must say how I too enjoy the Bristol Boy analysis.

Being here in the U.S. means they hold extra significance, yet this week has been very special with two live broadcasts. The Shef.Weds. game was not originally scheduled so it was particularly pleasing to see Setanta airing it live with a 5.30 A.M. start time.

My thoughts so far, Elliott, continue in this vain and then a bigger stage could come a calling.Thought he was still worth a point or two more yesterday.Limited by just on-screen interpretation he reminds me of a Carlton Palmer type player, rangey, energetic,a real competitor.

For me ,Orr,Wilson, and Johnson are our treble chance men this year.Over those 180 televised minutes Orr has impressed me most as looking as though he can succed in the challenge of operating at the higher level,Wilson seems to have the necessary attributes and that precise finish should cetainly add to his confidence. For Johnson junior confidence was sorely lacking when that glorious opportunity presented itself, yet that aside I worry that his physiscal stature may hinder his ultimate achievement.Although capable of fine passing too many times possession is lost.

Another area where we lost control of the ball too often was in needless off sides.Just handing the ball to your opponent so cheaply is a crime, hopefully this will be on G.J.'s agenda with :Trundle,Mc Indoe & Sproule. With the new dimension of added pace in the side one can see the counter attack being particularly valuable away from home.If G.J. can get more of our players releasing the ball early and accurately then both Sproule & Mc Indoe should be in for some good press.

Early days...but encouraging, in honesty we rode our luck a little yesterday but improve a couple of aspects of our overall game and we could become the surprise packet of the season....a little like Colchester last term.

As they might say over the pond-Gee, thanks!

For me, GJ's biggest dilema is how he gets his best players into a team formation.

I would say that Noble & McCombe need to be out there and it's a question of when, as opposed to if, that happens.

In some ways, that'll be a waste because we've got 5/6 wingers and they wouldn't play in a 3-5-2.

4-4-2 hasn't looked good in the two away games, so I reckon we could see 4-5-1, but with five main strikers on the books and two youngsters, will that keep them happy or will one at least move out, plus one winger?? Jevo & Betsy for example??

Good start and I'm pleased but there are some key decisions to be made and this two week break could have come at just the right time.
