are we getting carried away with all this big team business, we are second with a goal difference in the top three while the saints have conceded 23 goals in 11 games at just over two goals a game, lets not pay these sides too much respect as it detracts from what city have already achieved this season.

yours midland red.

Loan players in defence, Sproule running at an attacking left midfielder as the full back. Looks promising!

2 genuine wingers and an insane amount of striking fire power. Looks horrendous!

I'm struggling to adjust to the fact we're a good team in a good league and every game still looks really hard.

EDIT - Just seen the takeover story. That always seems to unsettle the on field matters too.

personally I agree with Edson, during our first season even our first 2 seasons at this level, we are still small fry in a decent league, if you can push ourselves forward as a club on and off the field (new training grounds and stands) then we will be able to consider ourselves equal or better than some of our rivals in this league.

Having watched the Southampton v Cardiff match, it was far removed from the class we showed against Sheffield Utd. Their match was much slower and all about hump ball, almost like a league 1 match. Hull v Barnsley was a better game, more on the ground and in keeping with the Championship league.

Based on the weekend showing, we are a better football team at this time than Southampton, but perhaps not as big and tough as Stoke. An interesting week, but we should beat Southampton who are no WBA or Sheffield Utd

TY to the lads for 100 pounds I recieved 270 in return for the Norwich win.

Alright lads. Saints fan here. I've read some comments on here with interest - and felt I'd invite myself in to add my views (seeing as we're playing tomorrow night).

We're slow starters. Always have been. HOWEVER - don't forget we have already beaten (a poor) Sheff United (with a very poor manager), and also beaten West Brom and Stoke already this season.

Our defence is beginning to get sorted out now - that's clearly been the weak link to our team this season as we've had a defensive injury nightmare - and still do to some extent in the defensive department (Lundekvam long-term out, Darren Powell has been long-term out, Wayne Thomas was out v Cardiff, new signing from Boro (Andrew Davies) out v Cardiff, new signing Lucien Mettomo not fit yet)...the list goes on. However, we should have a reasonably capable defense on Wednesday - but absolutely no where near the best and regular selection we'll field later this season.

We've conceeded a load of goals this season - but we've also scored a load as well....

Yes, we played pretty unattractively against Cardiff - pretty poor in fact - but hey - we still won. That's what the Championship is all about - believe me. On the flip side, you'll find many teams last season (and this seaon I'm sure) who'll happily say Saints were the best footballing side they've played during the season (experience of this league tells me these points).

Don't forget we're only 4 points behind you guys today - and that's after we're nearing the end of major defensive selection nightmare....

Fair play to you guys - you've had a good start. However, I can't help but think yourselves will do a Colchester this season. I've little knowledge of your depth of squad - but believe me - you'll need it when the injuries start clocking up....there's a VERY long way to go this season - and the season in this league doesn't really mateter too much until waaaaay after Christmas well into the 2008.

I hope you do try to play football tomorrow night - it will suit us.

Jack of the SFC.

PS - it's probably a good time to mention my Saints following mate who moved to the Southampton area years ago from Bristol is actually an avid Gashead.....

PPS - yoy appear to have your own injury doubts.......Bristol City defensive doubts

That 5-1 ahem 'incident' was the catalyst Burley needed to convince the board to sort the defense out. Granted, we didn't have defensive cover whatsoever with that mauling. We now have a very decent squad - plenty of decent cover all over the pitch. Ok, there not all fit this week - but will be very soon. Check it out.....Squad

I reckon our counter attack pace might well cause you a few problems - especially if Dyer and Hamill play on the wings, aiming for our away-goal specialist Rasiak (if he plays).

By the way, I'm not here to cause agro - just to give my views as a now relatively experienced Championship follower. It's obviously the right of the guy I replied to originally to be City biased - it's your board after all.

Don't get me wong, you guys are clearly playing well and probably deserve your league position - it will be a tough game for us that's for sure at this time of year. That said, hopefully it will be tougher than your compatriot poster on here thinks - as I say, we've already beaten West Brom, Stoke and the under-achieving Sheff United already this year - and your mate thought we weren't in their class....

Noooooo. That's Bristol Rovers mentality surely?

The table doesn't lie, we're 2nd on merit. I consider us to be better than every team below us. What have training grounds and stands got to do with how we compare ourselves to other teams. Training grounds and stands don't win matches. Gary Johnson wins matches.

Question for the scummer:

What do you think of Burley?

I was suprised to see pre-season some scummers doubting his ability...think he's a top notch manager myself. It's just your board that are f%cking sh1te.

Couldn't agree more, he's worked with smaller clubs with lowish budgets, took Ipswich to the Prem and kept them there on a shoestring playing attractive football. Wasn't Stewart the second highest scorer in the Prem in their first season there? Good manager.
