C Sextone / Man U / 1909 Cup Aniversary

C Sextone has come in for more than a little stick on this forum from time to time - but credit where it's due, he's been trying to arrange a friendly with Man Utd to commemorate City's FA Cup Final of 1909. (see todays EP)

Unfortunately his approach to Man U for a first team fixture has been rebuffed, -too busy etc etc... but CS still hopes to sort something out with them perhaps a City Old Boys/ManU Old Boys game or something similar.

Just wondering if FAN POWER might help to encourage Man Utd to have a rethink on this?..... should we all contact Old Trafford & try to back up Colin's original approach to them? - it'd be a great occasion if it could be arranged some how.

(erm, and Man U shouldnt forget the old adage to be nice to people when your on the up -cos you might meet 'em again on the way down sometime! ;) -footballs a funny old game & the way things are going for City at the moment who knows what the future holds :) )

It'd be nice if ManU could help us celebrate by giving us a game - home/away or at Wembley, but I guess if they wont or cant oblidge then we'll have to do it the hard way.....

- come on Sgt Johnson prepare our Red Army for an assault on the FA Cup in 2009, maybe then Man U would have no choice but to replay the game with us for real!!!

Seriously though, what do you think about the Fan Power idea?... could we influence their decision by bombarding ManU with requests??

Whatever happens, well done to C Sextone for his efforts on this...

Man U's pre-seasons are either major European clubs (Inter etc) or local ones (Bury, PNE etc) that they have close relationships with and send the reserves to.

I can't really see how a few emails from Bristol will change their plans to be honest, though would've been great to play them. To be honest, the best chance we've got of giving them a game is getting promoted...

try FC united of manchester

that's fan power

Yeah man, those boys had the right idea.

Tremendous fun to be had joining my AFC Wimbledon brother-in-arms also. ''Meh meh meh'' bollox kept to an absolute minimum. Try'n see if I can secure him an East End ticket for the Leicester game as he's coming West on tour.

Good luck Whislehappy persuing the campaign. A pre-season exhibition match with Coventry in remeberance of that game is an idea. 15,000 travelling ciderites! Here's cider gliders© memoirs of the historic eve:

That were a night we`ll never forget, it will go down as the most memorable

City game we ever attended. 15,000 City fans at an away league game must

surely be a record. Were sure most of us went up thur that night cos we wanted

to witness City`s last game in the top division, but City played out of their skins

that night. We the work with a bloke from Sunderland who moved down to Somerset

in the 80s an he wanted to support one of our local teams as well as his home town

team Sunderland. He became a Gashead cos thur be no way he would support the City

after that Coventry v City game in 1977 where he say`s Jimmy Hill an his old mucker

Alan Dicks worked it between um ta send Sunderland down! You know what, we be sure

he is right, but who care`s it gave us another three seasons in the top flight an a night

we`ll never forget at long as we the live! Up the City!

manchester united are inundated with requests for testimonials, free goodies and the like

they are a massive american-owned corporation and they are only interested in screwing money out of teams like bristol city and grabbing all the TV money.

The premiership was created out of greed not altruism.

Lets have our reserves play FC united and raise money for local youth football teams or something

The idea for sugggesting this proposal to Colin Sexstone was to celebrate what was the peak of our most successful era ever, between 1905-1911. When City were Champions of the old Second Division in 1905-06, they not only pushed United into runners-up spot, but equalled their record of 14 consecutive League victories the previous season, (only matched by Preston North End 1950/51) that still stands to this very day. Tell that to your Chelsea and Arsenal supporting mates!

In that first season in Division 1, 1906-07, City finished second, with United in eighth place. Although United were champions the following season, with City tenth, the FA Cup Final season, 1908-09 saw eighth placed City surpass the Mancunians by five places.

So you see, this is to celebrate our history and hope that United, whose first ever FA Cup Final win was against Bristol City, when we were well matched opponents and before the Red Devils moved from Bank Street, Clayton to their present home, would agree.

That's what its all about, pride and appreciation of Bristol City's rich history and the hope that United would reflect where they came from by helping us celebrate this special event - perhaps for Charity, at Ashton Gate.

Never say never.

no cash in it for united, they will not be interested

maybe if we were celtic or barcelona

they would prefer it if our club went to the wall, then they could expand their bristol based support even further

Fair enough, but it won't stop City fans trying their hardest to make this happen.

We could call it the Replay - most reports suggest their winner was offside!
