Liam Fontaine, England Under 21's

There's two centre backs who qualify playing well in the Prem in Nedum Onouha (at full back though) and David Wheater at Middlesbrough.

There's one playing badly in Steven Taylor.

And one not playing at all in Tom Huddlestone.

And there's Crainie, Mancienne, playing poorly in the championship.

Liam Fontaine's got to be in the mix surely?

Am i right in saying that pearce was at the southampton game?

yep, probably watching Andrew Surman though,

be suprised if he gets called up, also has Boro's Andrew Taylor in front of him and Liverpool's Jack Hobbs will probably get a call up soon considering he just broke into the first team setup

Andy Taylor's a left back and Huddlestone plays either.

On genuine pick the 5 best England under 21 centre halves, Fontaine gets in.

But perhaps he hasn't been involved since the under 17's they don't consider him a prospect. But how silly is that to cast aside a player who dipped in form for a couple of years and now is coming into their own.

Jack Hobbs hasnt broke into the any first team, apart from Football Manager.

He has only played Carling Cup games.

He's Liverpool's 4-5th choice centre back and we wouldn't have seen him if the others were fit.

Is it right that a player who's played no first team football should get into a team ahead of a player proving himself in a very hard league?

Agree, but has S Pearce had him watched at Ashton Gate and away ?

Would be quality, for a guy who struggled at league one level, yet at championship, along with Marvin E, has been players of the season so far.

Mate, I'm agreeing with you.

Jack Hobbs has only League 2 experience? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

A classy and composed defender with a few years league experience and is playing for a team 2nd in the Championship, should be considered at least.

Under any other setup I'd say it's unlikely a player who hasn't been involved in England would break into it for the last season he's eligible but Pearce did it with Kightly so he might do it with Fontaine. If he keeps the form up it's possible.

He would be eligable to it until the end of the next tournament. As players can start a qualifying campaign when still 21 but can finish it when aged 23. Some of the players that were in the Euro championships for England in the summer were 22/23.

Liam's played so well for us, He does deserve at least a proper look from the U21 manager. On current form you can predict he has a great future ahead. May even interest some premership sides.

if Pearce gets a injury crisis then he could be in with a shot, but there is far to many infront of him capable of playing the role,

unfortunately though, Steven Taylor, Gary Cahill, Huddlestone (not a natural but still bloody good in the role), Wheater, Onouha and Mancienne are all going to be infront of Liam in the team at the moment,

as for Jack Hobbs, in a year or so maybe, but at the moment is still only on the fringes of the liverpool first team, although was a regular in pre-season, probably liam's main threat from a role in the u21's, rightly or wrongly, being a very good reserve is more than enough sometimes to get into the u21's over established players from a lower league
