......... or Brooks might add something different at the end of games if required....

such as.......? I have a couple of suggestions

Maybe carrying the physios kitbag off the pitch for him......or.......following GJ round as he applauds the fans and then perhaps lifting him over any muddy patches so Gary doesn`t get his boots dirty.

It doesn`t take much exercising of that gray matter to know that SB is a long, long way away from getting on the bench or getting in the squad for that matter. I`ve nothing against the guy, he`s just been very unlucky with the knee injuries and i think the team as a whole have moved on too much for him to be able to catch up.

IMO i doubt very much if he`ll make much of a contribution, if any, during the run in and if we do get promoted then i don`t see a future for him here.

Well well, looks like the knives are out for Brooker.

He has played a 90 minute game and several matches in the 80+ minutes range.

Question : How often do any of our current strikers play 90 minutes ? Hardly ever.

Our million pound man is just a 20 minute man, with an occasional start. Why should Brooker be expected to play any longer than Byfield, Adebole or Trundle.

GJ's winning formula, play a 4-4-1-1, have the lone front man run himself into the ground for an hour or so, then send in the cavalry.

Brooker, even now could run a good 60 minutes, but we need the sharpness that is needed in the Championship.

Give the bloke a fair go. He's been out for the best part of a year and some players would have dropped off and collected the payday/insurance. Brooker has worked hard and shown a desire to get back into the squad. He's only 26 and from me to you, I believe he deserves his chance in the squad, this season or next, his dedication to come back deserves our support.

Steve Brooker stick it to em !!!

I agree as well, great post! Thanks for the welcome to the forum in a separate topic as well Rednready! I couldn't find that mistake you said I made, but I take your point. Dezgimed does get on my nerves though with his persistent criticism.

Good support for Brooker R&R but as a sceptic myself a goal or 2 from Brooker is a must before I start to be convinced he might be worth recalling.

Plus the fact that since he was injured City have acquired all the strikers you name above - Trundle, Byfield and Adebola and as Brooker is unproven at Championship level it's anyone's guess whether even at his best he could be more effective.

I'd like to see him fit and scoring for Cheltenham but even then I suspect the main benefit to City would be in an increased fee when the seemingly inevitable happens.

Unfortunately, even in the division below, Brooker had his limitations and was not prolific enough to suggest he could shine at the top end of the Championship.

One thing's certain though - if the moment arrives when GJ thinks Brooker can do a job for City he'll recall him immediately.

Good to hear from you Noggers.

Comments : Trundle and Byfield have yet to prove themselves at Championship level as 90 minutes threats.........see thousands of posts.

Downing says Brooker is an immense influence for his team and backs that up by chasing Brookers signature for another month.

Goals breed confidence and Brookers goals will start as his sharpness arrives. I don't see Brooker as a major goal scorer. He's had 20 goal seasons, but his best season was up front feeding Lita. Sometimes its all about combinations. Two good players can equal everything you want, or just an average combination.

IMO if Brooker hits form, its more likely that Gillespie's goal scoring will improve.

As a footnote, I'me an old soldier on major medications, you lot should be in bed with a warm companion.

Oh yes Jack, from memory I think you started a sentance with a conjunction. And, and its now history and we are cyber City pals.

Its now all about the battle on monday. Every week its said the match is huge, the Palace match is more hugerer than biggerer. Why, because it will give us the the boost of being top of the Championship league and that my friends will give the supposedly "best teams" something serious to consider.

We are now an itch they cant scratch.

What, like the criticism for Brooks on this thread?

We've made our peace once, if you want to act like a c0ck and make snide remarks again then do so, but don't try and act the saint.

If none of our strikers get injured between now and end of season, who cares?

Because perhaps one will get injured, or Brooks might add something different at the end of games if required.

See how easy it is to engage that dormant organ you keep inside your skull?

So, what is all this about dormant organs,?

The service at Cheltenham can't be that great either. Brooks would get more goal scoring opportunities here than he will do there.

On the other side of the coin - the opposition arent as good either. The service here will be better but so will the defenders he is up against.

Good to see him putting together a decent run of games and it would be great to see him wearing a City shirt before the seasons end. Even if it is just as a substitute.

I wouldn't say the knives are out, but given our current team squad I could not see SB being promoted in front of Byfield, Dele, or Trundle. To include him as well would mean 3 strikers on the bench, something I can't see happening if we are playing 4-4-1-1.

Gary Johnson will be happy with the situation at the moment, Steve Brooker getting fit and playing, and being a good insurance policy should one of our strikers go down. Perhaps then, if this happens, will he get a chance.

Says he is playing well but just missing good chances.

Personally I think he may well be good enough to be a part of our squad but another injury would be the end of him. He just needs games and to remember how to score again.

No point bringing him back until he has found some form/confidence.

Trying to get confidence at a level of football beyond what he's been used to isn't ideal.

He needs minimum another month with them I reckon - I personally think he would have been better going to one of the other clubs that were interested - Tranmere Rovers for example. His service would have been much better.

But then again maybe Steve wanted Cheltenham - it may suit him personally I don't know.

Not setting the world alight our Steve!

Cooer....what a thread. Sounds like SarahB will be giving a Cheltenham head or two a tolchock with her handbag come March 24th.

Ah well, looks like he needs several more weeks up the road and his shooting boots buffed up a bit before he's even in the reckoning for a place on the bench. Fair enough mind, he's been out of league 1 football quite a while...let alone playing in a promotion chasing (God I enjoyed writing that!) Championship side.

C'MON CITY, LET'S STUFF PALACE AND GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!!!!

Occasionally that warm companion says she wants an early night and means just that, :disapointed2se: so an hour on the forum after midnight can be a beneficial medication in itself.

Other times an "early night" can take it's toll and a late hour on the forum is the perfect way to recharge the batteries after the rigours beforehand. Well so I'm told anyway. ;)

Thirdly, I believe at least one "member" who shall remain nameless (ARNY) has achieved spectacular results similar to taking viagra simply by reading of the number of fans we may take to Sheff. Utd., :shocking: so it's benefits are plainly manifold.

It seems this forum works in untold mysterious ways and it's members, and their warm companions, have much to thank it for. :city:

It's not that bad a forum the Cheltenham one actually - they just seem frustrated at the lack of goals which is very understandable.

I reckon once Steve gets the odd goal under his belt then it's start to happen.

From their comments on there, he's getting into the positions and obviously still has it all upstairs in regards to reading the game so just the odd goal, a build in confidence and then it'll come good.

But as I said before, he needs to get this at L1 level first and then come back to us with his confidence up, not try and gain it at our level.

Time will tell and even if he doesn't play for us again, I hope he stays injury free - he can only be as frustrated as us multiplied by 1000.
