Wolves And Eubank-blake Hit Form.....

Wolves have a good record from their last eight games, scoring 17 and conceding 11, this gave them 5 wins, 2 draws and a loss. Ebank-Blake has hit 7 of the goals, he'll certainly be one to watch out for, Keogh and Gray have 3 apiece, Henry, Olofinjana and Kyle have each notched 1.

Our record in the last eight is better in one department, goals conceded, 9, but we've only scored 7, which gave us 2 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. Adebola has 3 goals, McCoombe has 2, Brooker and Trundle have 1 each.

From a seat in the stands and trying to judge away games on Radio Bristols commentary, its glaringly obvious ( as many posters and fans in pubs across the city have repeated ad nauseum) that our lack of goals will be our downfall.

Do we have a specialist striking coach in the staff at AG? I've no idea where GJ plied his trade when playing, Millen was a defender, Walsh was a winger (a bloody good one). If Brooker can score a few at this level, I fear his return from the sickbed has come far too late. Whilst I appreciate that quality strikers for permanent or loan signings aren't exactly in plentiful supply, there must have been someone of the experience and guile to join us from January to provide a lift for the fans and help us with the run in.

GJ has stated that he is giving the players that got us here a chance, thats an admirable ideal, but one that should get in the way of progress and improvement, if we fall by the wayside this season (as sadly, looks increasingly likely), how many of these players can he rely on for next seasons campaign, which will almost certainly a harder slog than this seasons adventures at or close to the top.

I applaud GJ for the attitude and spirit he has built amongst the squad, for ridding the club of the pissheads and wasters, next season, whatever division we find ourselves in he needs to blend that with some style, ability and guile in front of goal.

I'd like to see GJ put out an attacking team for the rest of the season, I'd bet a substantial wager that we won't get up automatically playing one up front. I'd like to see 4-4-2, getting at teams from the off, shooting on sight (with someone following in every shot to capitalise if the keeper fumbles or the ball comes back off a post). He has made few changes lately, some enforced, some not, a favourite of mine, Murray. doesn't look match fit, the continual revolving door that up front hasn't given any strike pairing a chance to develop, too late for this season?, but all food for thought for next.

GJ has done a great job in getting us up last season, the feeling of being there or thereabouts all of this season so far has been fantastic, which explains the surge of disappointment and even anger at Saturdays capitulation, if we fail to make it, I'm sure that the Manager will learn a lot from it, will reflect on the issues that caused it and will address the problems.

Ebanks-Blake yea or has Chris Eubank had a son who's been adopted?

Well done Eamer, a tought provoking and intelligent topic like this one, and you have to go and pick up on a spelling mistake.

Shame on you - I hope (but doubt) you are suitably embarrassed. :disapointed2se:

I think GJ's loyalty to the squad has been admirable but will be the downfall of us this season. It was blatantly obvious we needed investment, particularly up front, in January and, Dele asides, we let that opportunity slip by. Serious quality needs to be brought in this summer otherwise I can see a struggle coming on with the certain players we've got still in the 08/09 squad.

GJ's renowned for his attacking, bold style of play which has been missing with us for the majority of this season. If we are to skank up this year, we need to have every matchwinner we've got on the field from now until the end. Get it wide, get at fullback's and get crosses in for Brooker and Adebola, shoot fromr distance. Play at a fast tempo. At least that would get the fans going if nothing else.

The point about consistent strike partnership is a good one because nobody has been given a prolonged run which suggests he doesn't know his preferred pairing. I find it amazing that amongst all his mecurial work, he's yet to truely unearth a quality striker. I bet a look back over the stats would say that he's used something like 30 different one's in three years but to still not have two to form a partnership is baffling.

I'm not criticising him at all because of the magic job he's done with us but serious lessons need to be learned to avoid a struggle next term and I'm sure he will.

It not the strikers who at fault, it's the players providing the service, and the style we play doesn't suit for many chances being created.

This isn't a pop, just stating the facts that our style of play is about efficiency as opposed to cavalier football.

I think we have struggled for goals because no one has had a decent run in the side and no partnership has been formed.. If Brooker had been fit at the start of the season would we have seen a different Trundle???????

Agree with you Tin that we need to get back to playing at pace, get the ball out wide and get some quality crosses into Dele / Brooker or whoever is up front.

Lets just go for the throat and see what happens, we have nothing to lose but everything to gain!

Spot on, exactly right but we must remember we have had a wonderful season despite what happens from now on until the last game is played, cast your mind back to the first day of the season when we, like every other footy fan in the Country were sitting there full of anticipation and hope, in our case hope that we would stay in the Championship, we have done so much more than that and it 'aint over yet !!!!!

Lets just hope we do not demand or expect too much next season as some kind of automatic right based on the acheivements this year !!!!!

I agree. We all felt after the Soton game that we had blown it (even though the Stoke game proves we havent yet). As we think thats it, id be up for going a little bit gung ho ho...who knows 2 wins (at home) 2 draws away mite be enough

That's the problem we haven't any strikers to coach all season long i have been waiting for some more firer power but it would spoil team moral they say I say its spoiled our chance of going up 3 more goal in key games we would be up by now.

78pts looks likely to secure a top two place after last night's result. If Blackpool do us a favour tonight then that could be lower still, especially with Watford-WBA at the weekend. Crazy, crazy, league. Now's the time to go for it if we really want it.

My thoughts exactly, if we fail, lets fail whilst attacking and looking like each game is a cup tie, rather than whimpering out with a nondescript display. If we must start with one up front, lets make the changes earlier if we haven't had the break through. Most of all, lets work the goalkeeper and defenders a lot more than we've been doing, whilst we're attacking, the opposition can't score......

Gary was, I believe, a midfielder. I think Walsh is the best we have for an attacking coach (assuming that coaching knowledge comes directly from playing experience). I doubt we've been able to afford someone just to work with the strikers to date and I get the feeling that Gary would be as reluctant to add to his coaching staff as he is the team, unless it's someone he knows well.

Might be the prefect job for Scotty, or am I letting sentiment lead me the way it did with Tinnion? :crying:
