tin
On the eve of St Georges Day 2008, Wrexham departed the Football League. All we have to do now is get rid of Cardiff and Swansea then it'll be the ENGLISH league, as it should be. St George slayed their dragon. Happy St George's Day folks. tin
And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the Countenance Divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among these dark Satanic Mills? Bring me my Bow of burning gold: Bring me my Arrows of desire: Bring me my Spear! O clouds unfold! Bring me my Chariot of fire. I will not cease from Mental Fight, Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand Till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land. What a song for today! Just a shame the bishop of southwark in all his infinite wisdom wants it banned from all churches because he considers its too nationalistic and patriotic. CiderEagle
Just a shame the bishop of southwark in all his infinite wisdom wants it banned from all churches because he considers its too nationalistic and patriotic. I think it was more that it wasn't really a devotional Christian hymn as such, which it isn't. Never go to church meself so it doesn't bother me. Damn fine song Jerusalem. It isn't really nationalistic in my view, its about building a better world in England and not about going out and killing people (a la Land of Hope And Glory - is there a more pathetic sight than little middle-class Englanders from the stockbroker belt waving their flags on Proms night and belting out the words to that odious anthem as if Britain still had an empire ? ...)
