Caulker To Southampton

Roadrunner

See Stephen Caulker is having a medical at Southampton, as he moves on from QPR. Cream always rises to the top.

Great move for him....could see him stepping up again and realising his full potential their. He was brilliant for us.

Really hope he becomes a regular England player.

Oh dear, he's more like a mercenary/journeyman now. Hoping from club to club, relegated club to club to be exact. Not sure what Koeman sees in him, maybe a Gary Cahill type effect might happen, didn't rate him at relegated Bolton that season but he's turned into the best English CB (playing for England that is)

Yep, he should do well there - in a decent team at last.

When you look at the centre backs we have, he should walk into that England team after gaining a bit of confidence.

Cahill stones and jag are all much better defenders and if chambers gets playing time this season I will expect him to be ahead as well,

Caulker is good but he is nowhere near international class

Indeed. He should be thanking his lucky stars, a helluva opportunity to get back on track. At Soton I'd certainly back him to do it too.

And if he plays well he'll be in a Liverpool shirt next year....

His level is the championship.

Played over 120 games in the Prem fella...and now the fastest growing Club in the World signs him.

Yesterday, you thought Smith offered more than Barton....

I really can't understand your reasoning....

  Ignoring the fact he's played 120 games in the top flight, had successful Premier League seasons with Spurs and Swansea, has been capped by England, played European football and, until two years ago, was widely tipped as a future international regular and the fact that he's been sufficiently sought after to have not needed to play at his so-called 'level' since leaving us in 2011, the lad is 23 years old.

Why the Hell do people feel the need to definitively write players off at stupidly young ages? Defenders tend not to peak til 28 or so.  He's got lots of time on his side.

people are blinded on here by the fact he was good for us. He has been terrible since then and struggled to get a game in a shocking QPR team last season. Just another overated Young Englishman.

Nonsense.

His 'terrible' form since leaving us resulted in an England cap, a season long loan spell at Swansea - who incidentally tried to buy him immediately following. Yes his career stagnated following two ill advised moves, particularly at QPR but for Cardiff he did a more than decent job for in the circumstances. Decent enough so that although they went down he was bought for a significant fee.

He's aged 23, 100+ PL games, 6 PL goals, England cap, captained in the Premier League. He never should have moved to relegation candidates and from them to another for such big fees. Too much expectation was placed upon him at far too young an age - especially at centre back.

Last season his performances were particularly poor in several patches. Season before Flint was particularly poor form in several patches. Glad SC didn't write him off.

My flatmate's a QPR season ticket holder so I know for certain your facts are wrong here.  He didn't play well but he didn't struggle to get a game. He played in 35 out of 38 Premier League matches plus their sole FA cup game.  Perhaps do some basic research before commenting in future?

Correct and what a shame it is. Could've been more but it never ended up like that.

For the past four season he has been at premier league clubs.

Premier League clubs keep buying him, and he is well thought of by many Premier League managers, clearly.

People who work at the highest level in football think his level is the Premier League, so you'll have to excuse me for completely disregarding your opinion.

As for him struggling to get a game for QPR last season. He didn't.

His style of bringing out from the back will suit Southampton down to the ground . I bet he is glad to away from QPR where most players go just for the money.

I'm not saying he is a world beater or will walk straight into the soton team but wouldn't suprised to see him improve now .

Ok fair enough so he played lots of games and was terrible.

So bad that he's been signed by a club competing for Europe?  I bet loads of players wish they were that bad.

You know you COULD just admit that you're being rash in writing off a 23 year old with premier league and international experience based on two ill-advised moves and one bad season.  We all make mistakes and nobody would think any less of you.  But to persist in arguing a really badly-thought through argument just because you can't admit you made a mistake and didn't think it through properly just makes you look daft.

Not sure why being that bad last season another Prem league team have given him a chance.
