  1. Congrats to LJ - first bit of silverware. I'm sure the Sunderland fans are loving that. Seems to have galvanised Sunderland - got them on the kind of roll that ends up with promotion. I for one would be happy to see him and Sunderland in the championship and on merit too.

  3. God, what an embarrassment the women's team are! 6-0 down at Vicarage Road? Absolutely ridiculous; you would never see the men's team have a result like that!

  4. Many years ago (50?), my sister joked that the reason her knickers were labelled C&A was so she knew which way round to wear them. It took me several years before I understood the joke.

  5. If losing 6 nill is not bad enough, some of them have a stack of ironing to do when they get back home ?

  6. Absolutely. From what I know of the two teams that was the equivalent of an U23's team playing an full international team. Let's celebrate them reaching a final rather denigrate them for todays result.

  9. When one team is so much better than the other, gotta expect results like this. The game is still evolving. Enjoy it for what is. Stop comparing it to the men’s game.

  10. Marvin Hagler, the man who inspired me to start boxing as a feisty young boy, the man I wanted to beat to be World Champion, the man who was denied a proper ring celebration when he beat Minter to a pulp to win the Championship by the idiotic London crowd, the man who served up the most brutal fight with Tommy Hearns in Middleweight history. Rest in Peace Sir, my hero, my inspiration, the best, thankyou for everything x

  11. Definitely. I'm not quite sure how the **** Marvin Hagler can be dead he was so tough. An absolute king. Properly gutted.

  12. And now Salford are a future quiz answer. They’re the shortest reigning champions of any English trophy, at less than 24 hours.

  13. With the 6-0 loss today, as well as losing 9-0 at Kingsmeadow, and 5-0 at Twerton Park, Chelsea once again proving ruthless against teams like City. Second half was slightly better, but the injury to Mjelde is very worrying! Hope she gets well soon. Massive achievement for City to reach the final nonetheless. First Conti Cup Final where neither Arsenal or Man City have reached. Also, thanks to everyone who took part in the Zoom watchalong with the Vixencast and Supporters Club & Trust. Myself and the other podcast hosts are taking a break for a couple of hours and recording tonight. Would love to hear people's thoughts?

  14. What a disappointment that turned out to be. It's a real shame that City were comprehensively outclassed but that's the reality: Chelsea's bench had more internationals than the Vixens' squad. The gulf was enormous and after an awful start there was only one way this game would pan out. I was hoping the girls would show more of the sort of abilities they have in recent weeks but we hardly had a sniff. Perhaps a consolation goal would have been handy. We might look at the starting formation and question it but I don't think that mere tactics were the problem. Chelsea thought quicker, ran quicker and were a country mile better technically. They were expecting good things to happen and made them. Simple. City had some respectable individual performances but overall were second best in almost all departments, too often arriving behind the opponents. Mielda's injury looks pretty bad, maybe the curse of the female knee. As an international that will be a serious worry. But in the fullness of time, we need to be back to the routine of league games. It might be that we're used to adversity - after all, we lost 9-0 to Chelsea before so maybe there is something to hang on to.

  20. He was asking why his girlfriend's knickers had a label marked C&A last week (actually may have been his sister's).

  21. Very much so. It's not like he's never had a good run before when he's had injuries. I would expect him to lose in the play offs (it is Sunderland after all), lose some players, sign some players, struggle to know what he wants to do and history repeats itself. Ultimately I'm not fussed either way, that's just my prediction, he's gone thankfully. One thing I know is that looking at how our players can barely execute the most basic of football skills during a match day these days (and it's been getting progressively worse over the last few years to this point) I am delighted we will never have him, Holden and Macca "coaching" anyone at this football club again. Sunderland can go up or stay down, we should feel lucky he's not our problem anymore.

  22. Look, I know this will attract lots of scathing comments about women’s football, and plenty on OTIB see them as “nothing to do with us”. I confess I myself don’t actually watch them. That said, they ARE a part of Bristol City, they HAVE just won away at Everton, and there are four clubs below them in their league, including Liverpool and Everton. Seventh in the country and in no danger of relegation. So, well done them.

  41. What a pass that is! I disagree. Not City of course, but I've watched a Womens youth England game at St Georges Park with my football team (and I've played at a decent semi pro level myself recently) and we all commented on how much better they actually are when you watch in person. It was a bit odd, but they zip the ball around and it's one-two touch and gone. Obviously not every player/team is that good, but I'd say the decent womens time would outplay a Toolstation mens team. The men would have the physicality but that only counts if you get near them. I dont think its a fair comparison to compare the mens teams to the womens, its just unnecessary but they're better than you'd think. They're also far fitter and more athletic than most toolstation players. It's been discussed though hasn't it, women are on average about 6 inches shorter than men though as someone else said Men have grown since the goals were created so maybe its the men's that need to be bigger

  42. Yes, I can't see that Saunders can bring anything Canelo hasn't seen before tbh. If you've been in with Mayweather, Billy Joe's ring IQ and speed is hardly intimidating. Great news this evening that Josh Taylor gets a shot at being the first British undisputed champion in the 4 belt era What a ******* fight! Josh is bringing it home imo.

  43. By sheer coincidence, yesterday was the first day back on here for me. I stopped coming on here the day that this topic started. Gave myself a break from a few things, one of them being this forum. Thankfully I have very supportive friends and family and my company are shit hot on mental health and well being policies, they've been extremely good. Just want to get back to my office, even if it is just for 2 days a week to begin with. On a side note, because of my epilepsy and my ptsd, I've had my first covid vaccine which surprised me but they said I was entitled so I took it.

  44. Thanks to you all for your kind words regarding my situation & especially those who took time to PM me. Sadly Mum lost her battle this morning and is now at peace. I managed to speak with her on Friday for about 5 mins which was nice. Whilst obviously upset I am also pleased that she is no longer suffering. Now having a glass of Champagne in her memory.

  45. That's so true, so much damage caused trying to be strong for others rather than sharing your feelings. In the early 1990's my father in law was diagnosed with cancer- he "lived" for another three years. Six months after his diagnosis my father was diagnosed with cancer - he "lived" for another three months. I nearly lost it completely in those times. I didn't feel able to grieve properly for my own father with the obvious feelings my wife was going through with her father's illness. In hindsight I should definitely opened up to her.

  46. Vixens are well worth a watch for lots of reasons, but not least they are OUR ladies club and they always play with a pride in the shirt I occasionally find missing with our mens team.. as someone has said already a few cracking goals against Everton.

  47. I’m a big fan of the Vixens. Cracking goal by Ella Rutherford yesterday. Love Carla Humphrey. World Cup will be fascinating too - women’s football is finally getting the attention it deserves. I’m much more interested in the City women’s team’s fortunes than that stupid rugby team - pointless kick and clap nonsense. Some of the disparaging comments I’ve seen on various City FB pages about the women’s team have been downright disgraceful. Made by blokes who the ladies of the team would no doubt run rings around on the football field.
