    I can keep this going.
Got my first deck , Technics SL-D3 in 1980. Minor oiling and cleaning and it's still going strong and sounds great .
I should think so too , cost me over £100 on the "never never" back then :laughcont:

I remember saving up for my first separates back in the late '90's in my early '20's. All from richer sounds, i bought:

    Arcam alpha 7 amp,

    Cambridge Audio CD4

    Wharfdale Modus 3 speakers

    It now looks like:

    Arcam alpha 7 amp,

    Cambridge Audio DAB500

    Rotel RCD-945AX CD player

Rotel RP-5300 DD Turntable (bought drunk from ebay for £13.50 - didn't notice it said for parts only. Turned out it just needed a plug and a new cartridge!)

    Mordaunt Short MS35Ti speakers

Went back in 2014 (?). Enjoyed it!

We had about 5 days in Varadero (the beach part) which was lovely. We also did the 3 Cities trip whilst staying in Varadero, so we had a taxi driver take us to Santa Clara, Trinidad and Cienfuegos. Really different, Santa Clara is where Che Guevara is buried.

Then went onto Havana. Did a cigar factory tour, as well as Havana Club tour.

I bought some cigars out there, you can buy them "unofficially" from the tour guides at the factory.

Havana is really safe, they are very keen on keeping tourists happy.

Food not up to much, it's not like e.g. Jamaica or Barbados where it's packed with flavour.

I was out there in 2002/3 an amazing place if you want to meet great people, dance and sing .
Drink rum, smoke cigars and laugh.
I advise to avoid the tourist beaches, Baracoa on the North side of the island is unspoiled as is the Isla Juventus.

Stay with the locals and you will have an amazing experience. I was invited to a Santeria mass which is not for tourists and it was colorful, viceral and rich.
Go to a ballet . It’s not like in Europe , it’s of an exceptional high quality and the locals treat it like a sport with dancers cheered and whistled during the performance.
    Go you won’t regret it.

Thanks both!! That’s really great advice. Much appreciated 👍

  3. Anyone been?

Mrs Turnip is wanting to go and I'm warming to the idea - looking at a couple of weeks in November - think the rainy season ends in October...

I guess firstly if anyone's been, would you recommend going at all?! I note there are no direct flights anymore - change in Madrid looks best option.

And if anyone has any tips and recommendations they'd like to share would be most appreciated :)

He's not the first and he won't be the last. Proud Bristolian Bobby Reid jumped ship as soon as he could. Why on earth do we care about humans who don't give a shit about the collective at Bristol City? For me, anyone who has left Bristol City for greener pastures should be the arch-nemesis, yet we consistently lump them amongst our heroes - what bizarre pathology has befallen us where we gladly wish the success of former players at better clubs?

I'm friendly with Joe Jordan as it goes, and recently he spoke about the same thing. Pathetic adoration of what will be a footnote in the history of our proud club.

Legends are ignored, people who don't give a shit about the club are anointed as heroes.

    Pathetic.

I’m glad I’m not the only one . The one tthat gets me the most is the people who love Bobby Reid who’s from Bristol but supports Liverpool and jumped ship at the first chance possible to Cardiff , such a tinpot mentality from our fan base .

Some people have an interest in what ex-players are doing (i don't see any hero worship or fascination as is being claimed). I think that's fine. It's also fine if you don't have any interest.

What is odd is that you and others have come on to a thread that is clearly about an ex-player, (even though you have no interest) and got all upset.

    This.

Results are completely secondary & loads of this side already know they’re being released anyway.

If he gets half a game or an hour but comes off because it was pre-arranged that’s all that counts.

Was subbed at half-time - hopefully planned as you say.

Disagree - I sense no entitlement of promotion. Has anyone said that, other than the club?

You can talk about what did they actually say….well they actually said a lot and frankly one is always entitled to read between the lines - if in a position of comms that BT and JL are in they leave the option for people to read between the lines, then frankly they deserve what they get.

They said the aim is promotion.

They said the squad is underachieving.

They said the squad is a good as it’s been in JL’s time here.

They said NP is gone because we had a better chance with someone else of promotion.

So I believe fans are absolutely right to hold those statements to account - and it is my personal opinion and belief of the vast majority of other city fans 2 things:

    1) NP is gone, fine - we would have accepted a ‘mutual’ parting of ways statement or similar when he left - something respectful from the club - but they threw him and Rennie under the bus and rubbished parts the huge work they did (RG included) in getting us out of the mess SL go us in to.

    2) They could have said any number of things without mentioning promotion - no one expects promotion, but we do expect their new man to back up their claims (otherwise what was the point?!) and have us trending upwards, not into relegation form. Top 10 would have been great, Top 8 fantastic and top 6 we’d all be delighted, just challenging and losing in the play offs frankly.

If you want to talk about entitlement, talk to Brian “see you in the premier league” Tinnion and Jon “ambition to be promoted” Lansdown - and ask them why they’re entitled to make those statements without being held to account?

    Very good 👍👌

I’ve no idea what was said at interview but I sure as hell wouldn’t take a job where my boss was telling me one message and telling my customers a very different one that didn’t tie up and ran the risk of throwing me under the bus.

BT/JL clearly stated to us customers that this was a top-end championship squad and things should be better NOW.  If Manning didn’t agree with this, he should not have taken the job.

    That's fair. Good reply 👍

Your suggestion of "how do you know this was the remit" was the excuse.

I believe it was the remit because that's what various people at the club said it was.

If its suddenly not the remit then we've been lied to. It can't be both.

It was a question, which can't really be answered by anyone.

    We were obviously lied to.

It’s definitely an argument 😉 as the statement below is arguing (by definition) that LM may have been told something different:

Just because JL and BT fed us fans a load of tripe, doesn't mean they said the same to LM”.

But away from semantics here, I think you’re definitely on the page that they were dishonest with the fanbase - and that is I think pretty much universally accepted. Where I think your point more is lies in how wise it was (if they did do so) for BT/JL to give different expectations to LM then they articulated externally. And let’s be frank, every football club does that - they all say “we’re going for it this season” when they know 14th might be a success. The difference as I think again we all accept here is that the external expectations were used as rationale for a sacking, and therefore Liam became a bit of a hostage to them.

Daft, because if Tinnion and Lansdown did think at all and thought it was ok to give that mixed message because of the “everyone does it” point, they didn’t consider the actual situation - which again speaks to their competence

    Yes well put.

I was just trying to move away from Manning being judged based on the exact wording that JL fed us, which some people are doing. Realistically if you take away the anger of NP going the way he did (of which I'm still cross about), and all the lie's, then I think people would be more accepting of Manning needing time to implement.

    Yeah, incompetence for sure!!

I think what you need to do is look at parallels with the real world.

Say a business appoints a new CEO, and during that process they articulate profit/results expectations to the market (in this case the fans). If they fail to meet the market expectations that the company has signposted, then the share price drops and confidence in the company reduces.

(This is not unique. Profit signalling to markets is commonplace)

Now, if following those results, the company said “Yeah but we didn’t mean those were the actual expectations of the new CEO” how do you think the market would react to both that statement and any future results expectations? It’d be fine if they’d missed the results expectation because the market had changed, but if nothing had altered then the shareholders would be baying for the blood of both the board and the CEO.

Which is why this argument is, frankly, bollocks.

I haven't made an argument, but thanks.

    Really don't like this excuse.

If they've lied to us, why does that mean we should suddenly be OK with the lies?

And secondly if they were being honest about expectations, why can we suddenly not hold them account for us failing those expectations?

Not sure where I've made any excuses for anyone. Just asked a question.

Where did I say we should be OK with the lies? I'm not OK with the lies, which you'd know if you engaged rather than just assumed.

Of course we should hold people to account for failing. My point being for all we know JL and Tin's said to LM, don't worry about this season, just keep us up and focus on next season (that's just an example before you lose the plot), therefore LM's remit will be different to what we've been told.

I don't think anyone thinks they were being honest about anything, so yes they should be held to account for lying to us.

he took the job… the remit (however deluded) was clear… get this top-end championship squad performing like a top-end championship squad. If he thought that wasn’t achievable he shouldn’t have taken the role.

Sorry for late reply, but how do you know this was the remit? Were you in the room with them when he was told this during the recruitment process? Just because JL and BT fed us fans a load of tripe, doesn't mean they said the same to LM.

But Manning was not brought in to rebuild and then maybe challenge in a few seasons time. He was brought in to challange with this squad.

How do you know what remit Manning was given/accepted? Were you involved in the recruitment process?

Do you actually think JL said  "you have a top six squad there Liam - challenge for promotion this season or it's failure" and that Manning said "sure where do I sign".

You seem to be confusing the rubbish JL tried feeding to us, with actual private discussions held with our new manager.

Finally got around to visiting Noah's last night and it was excellent. Fresh seafood served traditionally.

Porthilly oysters and huge Isle of Islay scallops to start, then we shared a delicious grilled whole black bream from Cornwall and cod loin and chips. The latter was about as good as fish n chips gets. A chunky cod loin which fell apart beautifully in a light but crispy batter. Yeah, it's £19.50 but the quality makes it comfortably worth it. They also do a match day special before City and Bears games, and an early evening special, where it's £15 and comes with a drink - that's great value.

Interesting drinks menu too. I had a Hungarian dessert wine called "fairytale" and a really nice amaretto made in Somerset.

Already looking forward to going back.

We went there for lunch on Saturday - totally agree, thought it was excellent. The mussels were fantastic. We also had scallops, then the hake and the sole for mains. All washed down with a lovely bottle of white. Great lunch - we'll be back too!

Bringing in a head coach to better coach our players to make them out perform their ability and then instead of doing that they sign a player in a position that we don't really need another player unless of course the injuries to Sykes and Twine are more serious than has been let on.

But it's not instead of. You can do both. Do you really think it's that black and white?

Regards the second part, @Harry has already replied to you on this, but I don't think you've acknowledged.

Sorry but we are back to the days of wanting to bring in players to improve us rather than coaching on the grass.

Sorry, are you saying you disagree with the concept of bringing in players that improve us? And that if we do that we don't bother coaching? It's not one or the other!

Two successfully made the required standard and then moved on - Why? The academy may had played a part.

With a full pre season this lad may reach the necessary standard - if not then that’ll have been a risk that didn’t pay off. It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened.

So you don't think the success ratio is good enough? Can you name the others that didn't work out (as in lost money on)? By the negative spin of your post, are you saying we should stop buying in young promising players? You'd rather we spent more and only bought established players? They can not work as well as you know, and it's a lot more expensive when they don't work out.

It's a very low risk strategy. Not sure what your issue is.

According to numerous posters, the only opinions that are allowed are Pro Lansdown posts, pro Manning posts and pro Tinnion posts. You get bonus points if you mention what a fantastic stadium we have.

Just because someone doesn't agree with you, it doesn't mean they are saying you can't post an opinion. It work's both ways. It's just disagreement. It's fine.

I had this. It wouldn't recognise my linked family member as a BCFC member.

The basket timed out when my constant refreshing wasn't working and tickets were released, so I quickly managed to re-select the tickets that were released, then it all worked!! Very odd.
