    Not necessarily.
All players are different. You wouldn’t expect Vinnie Jones to be able to play like Paul Gascoigne.
I think the only name you mentioned above who might be able to play Manning’s way might be TGH. But even then I don’t think he’s quite ‘all action’ enough and can be very laboured in possession and not brilliantly defensive-minded in recovery positions

Everything about our central midfield is slow slow slow.
Slow passing, slow on the turn, slow speed of thought.
Honestly, it’s a stark contrast to how Oxford play. We have no one-touch football. It’s all 3 or 4 touches and ponderous. Stark contrast.

Manning has a huge task trying to get some of these players to play that same way.

Caveat - Yes, I know Oxford are league 1.

No, I get that but do we know what the Oxford players were like before he got them playing that way. I'll be honest, I've no clue but I can't believe players of the calibre I mentioned can't adapt to some extent. I would have thought the starting point for these players is better than those at Oxford and MK.

  2. I don't get the argument that we don't have the players to play Manning's style.

Surely if he can get players in not just one, but two League 1 squads to play it then surely our lot can. Granted we may need to add some more that do it better but you'd like to think players like Weimann, TGH, James, Bell, Conway, Mehmeti are good enough.

    It's a news paper article.

    Doesn't contain anything contentious whatsoever

    Completely agree. A good read.

Look, I didn't want NP to go but now he has, this is looking an exciting prospect. Yes, with risks but any new appointment would have had risks.

It actually reassured me that he will get the chance to make this team his own without moving away from the base that Pearson sorted out.

  4. I really enjoyed listening to him. Other than getting a bit fed up of how many things 'alligned', he really impressed me.

In terms of how will we set up, as others have said his principles is what came through and I think overall we will have players that will fit what he wants in terms of the foundations - a team of runners.

Where I think he will look to improve is our creativity and guile and seemingly he will try and improve what we've got and look in the academy before going shopping but, as some one else said, I'd be amazed if we didn't see a no. 10 style player come in in January.

Time will tell but I'm starting to be a little bit excited about what could be.

Go and listen again. He said promotion with this squad of players this season

Yes, the aim is promotion. He said that is what they want and what we should be going for. I'd be disappointed with anything less but he didn't say it is a failure if we don't go up. I'm pretty sure we won't she Manning, if he gets the job, get the sack if we don't as long as they are happy with what they see.

  6. Wow. Loads of people holding the club to this 'exciting appointment' and then saying its the opposite.

Of course the club are going to be excited by it; they made the decision to get rid of NP for him.

Whether the fans see it as exciting is going to be just down to opinions, which it seems there are 4 generally speaking -

    1) Never heard of him so not exciting

    2) Never heard of him but let's give him a chance

    3) People who have looked into his previous at MK Dons and Oxford and are saying he has got them playing an exciting brand of football

    4) People pretending they know about him and saying he has got them playing exciting football

Fwiw, my take is that I would have preferred us to stick with NP but seeing as we haven't, I'm happy to go with the people who have the 3rd opinion and see if he can get us playing like that. So that means my opinion is the 2nd one.

As per my name also lived in Wokingham until moving away in 2011

Lots of my mates lived in Barkham. Remember getting hammered at a party at Barkham Village Hall when I was a teenager back in the 90s. 🤣

Where has this even come from? I don’t believe for a second this is true 😂

I agree with you that but at least it's a name that would bring a bit of excitement.

Anyway, I quoted more because of your username. I grew up in Wokingham and must have been the only City fan living there and had to endure Glory hunter Reading fans as it was in their rise in the early 90s.

  10. Think there were 2 OTIB leagues last year.

One was the one I set up a few years ago and it automatically renews so if you were in it last year, you just need to do a new team and it will re join.

For newcomers, join code is dexp9d

    Don’t know if these help.

The French one looks very technical! But maybe more thorough. The RAC one seems to be a summary (. You have to scroll down a bit to get to the section on child seats)

Thanks. Yeah we saw them but couldn't make sense of the French one.

  12. Hi

Am aware there are some regular posters who live in France. Can i get some help please?

Going on holiday in a few weeks and hiring a car. Want to know if my 4 1/2 year old can just have a backless booster seat or if she needs to have a proper car seat.

    Thanks in advance.

Oops sorry thought I'd put this in the general section. Obviously this is nothing to do with transfers ?

  13. I think it is really important we get a few younger but experienced pros. Our current ones are the wrong side of 30 - James, King, Weimann, Wells, Naismith, Kalas, if he stays, and other than Vyner and Cornick, there is a gap to the younger players.

I am really hoping we bring in 2 or 3 players in the 25-29 range to provide experience with legs as the older ones start playing less.

And Bryan is a quality player. As others had said, if his name wasn't Bryan and this was another player who had the same career history, we would all be raving about getting in such a good player from out of contract.

Interesting points - I don’t see Wells being replaced as we have just offered him a new deal, I don’t see us signing a striker this summer.

No I agree. I just mean at some point due to his age. We must have some sort of succession planning in place for him. I'd love us to get Leaburn in but as you say, don't see us signing a striker either.

  15. Tricky one as, apart from the out of contract players, the ones that I may have had as being ones he'd like to upgrade on would have been players like Vyner and Pring who have upped their game this season.

It may be that he thinks we can do better than some of the younger players so bringing in better options will block the pathway for players like Bell, Francois, Taylor-Clarke etc. But don't think he'd want to offload these. It will just make it harder for them to get in the first 11.

After that, we will need to, at some point, replace the older ones - Weimann, James, Wells etc but they would need replacing with experienced players Maybe 25-28 age range. Will be an interesting Summer.
