Tired of the moaning about a bloke on the way out of the game who was bang average. You lot still show up every week. Stay home you don’t like the way it is being run. Nope everyone still showing up. No one organising protests. NOTHING! All talk no action. You lot are only happy when you are unhappy. Try embracing the change and appreciate the better football. You lot have Holden more patience. Embarrassing

I suspect you are about to discover fairly quickly, that our new HC is somewhat out of his depth.

Our paper thin squad will always struggle in such a relentless league and this is not a good mix for a hugely inexperienced coach.

As for appreciating the better football!

Dunno.  He only signed last July when he’d not made the impression he went to making last season.  So I doubt he’s on much (in the grand scheme of things).

Think some will be down to a combo of loyalty, injuries, what might be on offer versus are any clubs circling, ready to bid in January.

At the end of the day we could offer him a top-wage tomorrow and he might still go in January.  No wage we can offer him will compare to what he could get in the Prem…and that is where he will go at some point.

We need to strike quickly, deal to summer 27 or 28 if we can.  It won’t offer us tonnes of protection though.  But I also think Nige is comfortable paying players what they are width regardless of age, homegrown etc.

Tommy deserves to be a high earner imho.

If he stays well I think it likely he will get 20 goals  this season, and I fully expect him to go to the Euros assuming we qualify. That last point is not a given as we, like BCFC,have an astonishing ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

He did train with the senior players during the summer prior to the Norway game.

    * We being Scotland.

All that aside if he does get a decent haul of goals he will attract interest, that is a given, so I agree we need to get a new contract signed ASAP to protect his value.

Obviously that won’t put EPL clubs off, I think Tommy is the real deal and will hopefully have a stellar career.

  3. ‘ 7 a side player’ . One of the few LJ quotes I could agree with.

As a more ‘mature’ fan I was brought up with wingers, clearly the game has changed hugely but they still have a place but nowadays mainly as impact subs when a team is chasing a game.

There are few sights as exciting as a winger taking on a full back and consistently putting in dangerous crosses.

One that I remember from my childhood was Jimmy Johnston, a Lisbon Lion and a magnificent winger.

  4. This is strange to me.

As someone who works in an industry that has lots of changes of ownership, my experience over many years, is that if someone buys the business the existing CEO stays in place for a period of time to aid with the transition then departs.

Of course if new ownership is imminent maybe after meeting with PA they decided they did not want him around or, he did not want to be around.

Doesn't smack of cost saving as PA probably had a significant notice period that would have to be paid.

Aside from all of that I am concerned that our chairman mentions Tinnion but no mention of Nige, I can’t help but think they want him gone and the first opportunity they get that will happen.

I suspect on one level that won’t bother Nige too much and he will rather enjoy not providing them with the opportunity.

The owner is playing with fire here in my opinion.

Yes clubs looking to be competitive in their league, we sold to Bournemouth not Man City, if Scott actually believed we were going to be at the top end of this league or they sold it that way to him I doubt he would of wanted to leave! We packed his bags and took less than £25m I bet

I suspect a signing on fee in the £m and wages of £50k+ per week may have colored his decision.

Spot on. And to think some of us were joking about LJ coming back!

I’ve now got anxiety issues of seeing a grinning SL with LJ one side of him and Holden the other with the headline “Unfinished Business”. ?

As I have predicted Nige will leave / be removed during the international break.

LJ will be quickly re- appointed. Budgets will miraculously increase next summer and the circus will start again

SL doesn’t care for experienced football people who question him, I am sure that has come from building his own business.

Personally I am very disappointed for Nige, I think he is a top bloke doing a good job in difficult circumstances.

Don’t care as to the reaction but what really needs to happen is for the Lansdown to sell up and bugger off and let proper football owners help us progress further. They are definitely holding us back imo. Don’t care for the sentiment of he always saves us financially, that’s his job as an owner. The fact he has to do that all the time shows he’s not a very good football club owner. How many clubs have passed us whilst we continue to tread water? Get them gone and then we can move forward

How is bailing us out his ‘job’? He could easily take a view, as most business owners would, to cut costs to the point where there is no need for a bailout. That said, I accept owning a football club is not the same as any other business.

Reading between the lines I think he is rapidly reaching the point of wanting out as soon as possible hence the recent  statement and also Nige not expecting to see much of the Scott money. I think the finance man in him is looking to make the club as attractive as possible to a potential owner (s). As many have said he has provided great infrastructure but his legacy will always be failing to get promotion.

It is impossible to tell but the only reason someone would be interested in buying us would be to get to the PL, which, as we all know is much easier said than done.

I suspect we are in for another mediocre season with the high likelihood of Nige departing next summer. I still believe that if he was backed we would have a decent chance of top 6 but that isn’t going to happen.

  8. Wolves look like they are out of the race because of finance.

As mentioned above West Ham seem to have some serious internal conflict, I suspect either Davie Moyes or the new Technical Director will depart soon, so they are focused on that.

Bournemouth have gone cold at £25m.

Unless another club enters the game it looks like he is staying, for the moment.

Of course all of that could change in a heartbeat.

True, it might also be the case that I believe he lives in Long Ashton and fancied walking down to see a game at a club he played at for 4 years though of course.

Yes, it could be as simple as that, I agree.

I was simply pontificating with absolutely no knowledge of what is or is not happening.

If he does want to continue playing then I am a little surprised that he has not signed somewhere else, but of course he may not have had any suitable offers.

Given that we did offer a new contract some time back which he clearly did not find agreeable, and that is entirely his right, I would have thought he would have done a pre-season somewhere, even with a clear understanding that there would be no contract offer.

I would have thought he would have enough contacts in the game to arrange that whilst waiting for his next opportunity.

I would imagine, for example,he could have spent pre-season with Hibs or Charlton. That type of thing is not that uncommon.

  10. Interesting. It suggests that he is not in negotiations with anyone else, certainly not in this league, as you would have thought he would have been at their game.

The comment was made that maybe he is considering retirement further up the thread. I think that may be a possibility, maybe the last 18 months of almost constant injuries has put that thought in his head, which would be understandable. Maybe the desire to play and risk further damage to his body is no longer there.

As we all know Tomas is very much his own man and not your typical footballer. He may have decided to bring forward his plans post football.

  11. I strongly suspect we are entering the area of ‘saving face’.  Wolves do not want to be seen to be meeting our asking price and losing the ‘stand off’.

They wont risk losing the player for the sake of say 500k but they will continue to bid below the £25m, hoping that we cave in.

Standard negotiation tactic in all businesses. It’s not about the amount but more about the ego of the people making and evaluating the bid.

You can be certain that if another club come in with £25m straight off the bat, Wolves will almost instantly match it.

Re Newcastle and FFP, that might be a red herring. They’re currently trying to offload Alain Saint-Maximam to a Saudi club. Both Newcastle and the Saudi club are owned by the same people. It’s basically Watford but on a bigger scale and can - if not solve - certainly ease FFP due to ownership.

Doesn’t mean they’re in for Scott. But if they want to be, they can be

Wait until Neves new Saudi club loan him to Newcastle before the season starts.

As you are probably aware the Saudi PIF bought 4 Saudi clubs last month, they also, of course, own Newcastle.

There is no FFP or equivalent in Saudi, again well documented, you can see where this is going.

Eddie Howe has been constantly going on about FFP and how it limits what they can do in the market, strangely more vocal than most other EPL managers.

As far as I am aware, as things stand there is nothing FIFA or UEFA can do about it - Watford on a much bigger scale.

That was my understanding. There's nothing to stop an agent having a detailed 'hypothetical' conversation with a prospective buying club?!

No there isn’t but the risk to the agent is that clubs would not be too keen on their players being ‘touted’ by their agents.

Once this window closes agents will already be working on deals for January or indeed next summer.

I am aware of agents talking to clubs about their clients who themselves are not aware that the conversations are happening.

Clearly there is big money to be made by agents on large transfers but, those with lower profile players need a ‘ turnover ‘ to make a decent income.
