Could a points penalty be applied to Aston Villa next year perhaps?

Because chances are that if they were in breach for the 3 years to this season, they will be in breach for the 3 years to next season. Perhaps by more as this is the 3rd and final year of parachute payments.

Aggravated breach- keeping Chester and Grealish when they were bids for them seemingly? If Birmingham get punished on that, then so can Aston Villa possibly.

Fine. Maybe, maybe not- how would it be calculated with regards FFP? If it didn't count towards their FFP figure then it's questionable. Embargo though? Should already be in one IMO.

The next few weeks could get hugely interesting. Reading the article from The Times further up in this thread it is mooted that one of the reasons Brum kept hold of Che Adams was because they believe a potential points deduction this season could put them into a relegation fight! and was worth the risk of aggravated breach!

So, if true, Brum see a points deduction as a real threat.

Villa, on the other hand, seem to be carrying on regardless - are they maybe not in breach? Or, at least dont think they are?

    Interesting times.

I wouldn't be surprised if there has been a conversation with the EFL.

"Don't worry, you won't get a points deduction, we'll agree a purely symbolic fine then you can carry on as before. If we want to make an example of somebody we'll go after some penniless League 2 club."

    Cynical , moi??

    Exactly.

Otherwise Villa’s actions in particular, would be utterly reckless and I just don’t see them doing that considering the ‘potential ‘ consequences.

If this is true...it sets a huge precedent. Will affect Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday right now or should and quite a few clubs down the line. £7m seems a bit low too, £11m the most widely quoted overspend.

I think for a start they need to sell Adams and Jota quite a creator so he can also either get a big fee or wages and a good loan fee by another club.

IF this happens it could be the defining moment for FFP in English football.

Somwhow I suspect it won’t be a points deduction punishment.

I also believe that Villa, who must also have issues, have spent in Jan comfortable in the knowledge that any punishment will be financial.

    Otherwise their actions are bizarre.

Because Gary has more sense than to risk his health trying to get something out of that lot. He`ll retire gracefully now if he`s got any sense and so he should before the stress kills him.

Whilst I totally agree with you I suspect he may well get another job in football, in the Bristol area...........

Will they unveil a surprise loan player today to shore up the defence?

    Can't see it frankly.

I doubt anyone will be coming in before the loan window shuts.

I suspect the owner has sent Lee the numbers regarding what he has spent so far and suggested that maybe he should be doing better with what he has given.

All speculation clearly but you really couldn't blame him.

An awful lot of money has been wasted, we focus, understandably, on the permenant signings but what about the loans that would have cost a fee and at least a % of wages.

    Woodrow

    Kent

    Diony

    Leko

    To name but a few!

A really interesting observation...which made me think of my professional life and the reality that very few people are hired to deliver a project of any significance who are expected to prioritise planning beyond the end of their contract. That bit is done by the people running the show...and doing the hiring. If I was running BCFC I'd be setting goals and objectives and hiring people to deliver them. In which case it's the responsibility of the manager/head coach to deliver stability, promotion, a fight against relegation...but not the long term strategic goals of the club. I think that's where the regime at City are all over the place. Set the goals and get a manager in to deliver them...the bit that's missing is, for me, an understanding of what it is that the club is trying to deliver on the pitch. Apparently today SL was saying that the goal for next season was 'making the top 6 and promotion at the end of the season (quoted on the Evening Post site)...great, but I don't see much evidence that Johnson is a manager capable of delivering the consistency across a season to achieve that...

    Good post fella.

IF SL did say that to,the BP, only to be expected. Actions speak louder than words but given his blind faith in his hugely inexperienced and failing HC, let's see........

  7. Surprisingly I am not worried too much about this evening, I can’t see us losing, that obviously doesn’t mean I think we will win!

The spirit amongst the players and very importantly the crowd is very positive, I don’t think Wolves will be looking forward to this one.

The atmosphere is going to be intense and with the predicted rain it is going to be a real test for them.

From what I have read Millwall did not give them a moments peace on Tuesday and that is what we do too, so......

The difference is, I didn’t post on here that the game was over with 20 odd mins left, you did, there’s always hope

There always hope and then there is blind optimism, on this occasion the later was the correct choice.

I will let others judge how it looked after 70 minutes.

In the main, in any game, at any level, anywhere in the world, a team that is 2-0 after 70 minutes and playing poorly, rarely win the game.

However, I am truly delighted to have been proved wrong - it was a fantastic result that did not look remotely likely at 70 mins.
