Sykes issue was running straight…needed to shift it to his right and make the goalie correct his angles.

(or as you say, pass it)

Just seen the highlights Dave, what a great game and potential for the future. We are currently travelling for two months and making* our way up the west coast from Perth and up to the NT. Keep up the great posts mate.

Awful 1st half, but the subs of Sykes and Roberts changed the game and got us a much needed 3 points, hopefully will take some of the pressure off the players and start playing with a bit of freedom again as some had started to look like they were hiding on the pitch.

How can the players start playing with a bit of freedom. Liam has them confused.

I know the league form and results have been sketchy at best however, our cup performances have really looked good. If Manning can replicate those performances in the league we will do well.

Though reading a lot of comments on here about being out of hid depth, he won't see the season out, how long till he gets sacked. These are all comments I have read this week.

If you have read the comments more in depth you will realise it's not just Manning but more around what he has had to inherit. OK good cup run that gets us all soft and loving feelings, but the performances are inconsistent in the league. If we string a good run together and by easter we are only 2 or3 points out of the top six, then those negative comments will disappear from the forum.

The poor guy has to work with what he has got on hand, and to be fair he is doing quite a good job. We all know that the transfer time in January did not bring great results. I do not know if you can blame this on Manning, but I suspect the board are responsible for this.

I suggest let's sit back and see what eventuates over the next 6 to 8 matches as if we can get 4 x wins out of these and the odd draw we will be in with a shout.

Sorry but this attitude drives me kind of mad. It's bloody February, as far as I know I shelled out £600 for a season ticket, not something that finished not even 2/3 of the way through?

Soton in 2nd about 200 games unbeaten getting boo'd off at half time today for being behind, they go on and win 5-3. I'll never forget us being 2-0 up at Leeds at Elland Road, who were in a similar position, them getting boo'd off, and coming back in the second half to draw.

Meanwhile we're here happy with our first win of the year in February, it's a tough league, it's a transition year, blah blah - on to next year. Don't worry about the losses, or the crap football - our PPG will eek out our 9th consecutive season in the Championship bobbling around mid table without enough excitement to stop half the crowd disappearing down to the concourse 10m early each half.

It's a rant and I'm sorry, but being safe in Feb at some point has to stop being an achievement and start being the minimum expected of us. It's fine to say we're happy with a win but not the entire performance.

Yes I'm happy we're not getting relegated and I saw a few good cup matches but **** me we're so soft sometimes.

You hit the nail on the head. One word you should have added. Inconsistency.

Not sure which bandwagon we’re on here, Andi got slagged off by a large number of the forum for being past his sell by date of late, just making the point that he’s a good player when utilised correctly.

Andi never was behind his sell by date by me. Still a great player in my books.

He was perfect against Ayling.  Said in the MDT, LM playing him left on Ayling and Bell on the right v Engel was spot on.  Ayling would’ve tried to bully Bell with his physicality, even though Sam would do him for pace.  But Cornick can be an awkward bugger to play against, as he proved today.

It would’ve been a sweet moment had Bell scored that 1-on-1 after Cornick’s fine build-up play.

I think LM said it was a bit of fatigue not injury.

Fatigue most likely.  However, Belly should have nailed that one.

    I created 3 threads alone.

One was the “but” thread, which was my initial reaction to the second half after the final whistle.

The other two, one extolling the performances on Tanner, the other way Wells and Knight led an excellent front line press / block and his the others backed it up.

We are definitely getting better and are now winning some matches we would not normally be expected to get the 3 points. However, ones where we should have the 3 points in the bag we end up with a draw. There are still some inconsistent performances, but we are on the right track for now.

Hope fully the inconsistency in performances will eventually balance out and it will end up a good season in the history of this well supported club.

Why is it that our fans make so much noise away from home when we seem so quiet at home?

Our stadium looks good. However the acoustic sound that 23K plus in attendance is average. There was more sound and atmosphere at Ashton Gate when we had the old east end , Grand stand, Enclosure, the original Dolman stand.
unfortunately a state of the art stadium like we have now does bring with it the passion that City fans had many years ago.

Hope Manning goes strong for this one. Unforgiveable otherwise, particularly as it will be season over.

He’s being going strong since he started. Unfortunately he’s now at the stage where he’s not many options left. If the FA cup run does not continue after tonight and at least six points achieved in the next four then he might make what could be a city record  of two managers so close together in time in one season to move on.
The fans expectations are still high but inconsistent performances are starting to be the norm. Mr Lansdown seems to be on a different planet than most and Manning has most probably waken himself up to now what is an uphill battle as if a few wins are not strung together the bricks in his wall will unfortunately come tumbling down.

Try and start an older song in the singing section and no one knows it.

End up getting about 10 blokes singing one older song and that’s it. All the younger lads are afraid to sing along in the fear of getting embarrassed by their mates.

Out of interest what older songs do you feel really get the crowd going?

There was one in the early 70s sounded and sang out load in the mid section of the east end, crackers corner in the open end and the end block of the grandstand and the enclosure in front out. It had “ promotion” in it. Sorry mate your not going to hear it this season

My hope is there won’t be that much change in defence and midfield in the summer, bar the business already done.

I agree James and King are off but I think we’d need at least one more midfielder or the squad would be thin and I can see that being a new deal for Williams

I think it will be hard to keep Conway and I reckon Wells could go if we got two new forwards in. I reckon we could keep everyone else - bar Twine - and I think it would be a good strategy to do so as it would enable the recruitment to focus on the two positions that desperately need it.

I can see our squad next year being:

    GKs

    1. O’Leary

    2. Poss Bajic if Manning genuinely rates him.
    3. HWR or whoever is next on conveyer belt if HWR isn’t kept on

    Defenders

    1. Tanner

    2.McCrorie

    3.Pring

    4.Roberts

    5.Naismith

    6.Atkinson

    7.Dickie

    8.Vyner

    Midfield:

    1.Bird

    2.Knight

    3.Murphy

    4.Williams

    5.TGH

    Attacking midfielders/Wide forwards

    1. Key signing

    2. Stokes

    3. Mehmeti

    4. Sykes

    5. Mebude (if a success)

    Forwards

    1. Key signing

    2. New back-up or Wells

    3. Bell

    Moved on:

    Conway

    James

    King

    Cornick

    Weimann

    Maybe moved on too:

Wells (I rate Wells - this is just a hunch)

    Bajic

    HWR

You are on the correct path. You have forgotten one vital component Mr Lansdown

The extended highlights were quite flattering to be honest.. If you’ve got access to Bein Sports watch the full ninety.. it’s harrowing. 🫣

I watched it. Be in sports in OZ is great. We were poor. Tried but not good enough. It’s still COYReds for me but I have decided not to look at any football for the next six months as me and the wife are going to travel around OZ. I hope when I do look at where we are at in about six months I will be pleasantly surprised. I’m back in the UK for six weeks late July to early September so have decided not to look at this great forum or look at football results for six months. I need to keep my blood pressure under control. I sometimes wish that Nige was still with us

Top 6 squad JL? Not on tonight's performance, think deluded is the word. 😂😂

Totally agree. I just watched the extended highlights, ok Leeds were good and looked very sharp. Most probably one of the best away teams at BS3 this season. Having said that we are strides behind Leeds in many aspects. Going down 1-0 against a team that most probably will get automatic promotion this season we are still miles behind where we should be with our new “manager” sorry Liam mate I think you have either promised a lie or finally realised you have bitten off more than you can chew.

Our performance I would say is ok at a mid table championship level only. Ok FA cup run potentially would be good but with the league same old crap and inconsistent performances which lets the die hard curt fans around the world disappointed ( and yes there are quite a few of us) but most importantly the city fans that attend week in and week out and travel away deserve far better.

They're mid table in the top Belgian league, other teams Anderlecht, Standard Liege, Royal Antwerp, Bruges etc so it's probably a slightly higher level than the Championship

Been watching video clips all day. What an exciting player. I have now a good feeling about this season.
