Is the Green un still a thing? As a kid I was always impressed how they got a photo printed from the game I had just watched. Felt sorry for the photographer who had to walk away from a match after only 5 mins.

loved the Green un and always remember waiting in the queue on a Saturday evening around 6.00pm at the local shop in Stockwood. Would have been about 10 years old then.

I think Max is still improving, he's much better catching crosses than he used to be. Thought he had a good game last night, with the second goal that shot was swerving and bounced just in front of him, he got his body behind it and it was unfortunate the rebound went to one of their players.

I don't know what it is about OTIB and our keepers but whoever we have in goal is deemed not good enough, it was the same with Bentley, Frankie etc.. I think Max is the best we've had for a while, all keepers make howlers every now and then, you only have to watch Prem teams on MOTD and you see them most weeks. We have to be realistic about the level of keeper we're going to get as a mid-Championship team, I think Max is better than most at this level.

He is good but not good. Championship mid table team then he is ok.If we push farther, I'm afraid he's out of his comfort zone and skill set.

Personally, I would rather watch the best players we can afford, whether they be born in Whitchurch or Timbuktu.

    Nothing wrong with Whitchurch mate

How many fans did we take up there last night ? The cov fans are all criticising us saying poorest turn out all season.  With the game being re-arranged, long time since last pay day, so many games in a short space of time, its a ground most of us have already been too i admire the ones who went fair play to them

there would have to bean least 900 or maybe more. This going by the goal highlights I watched today.

    Hi All,

Its sold out and I heard that it is not on TV? and assume as its the cup, it will not be on Robins TV !

Anyone know how I can watch or stream it, happy to pay a subscription, but I just would prefer not to be scrambling around looking for dodgy steams that drop in and out and have tonnes of adverts for even more dodgy websites?

Thanks in advance for any help given (BTW - yes I am a season ticker holder, but also an exile away from City and cannot make it to the game!)

In OZ I can watch it on paramount plus for $9.99 Ozzie which is about 7 pounds.

The balloon fiesta takes place over weekend 10/11 august 2024 and the new season starts the same weekend

FIVE of the TWELVE match's will be televised LIVE each weekend, legally

I originally thought the five live games were to be scheduled for fri/sat/sun/mon

I think all five games will go up BT/TNT 12:30pm kick offs on Saturday.

As I have stated before I prefer 12:30pm kick offs for AWAY GAMES,as it gives more time for those who drive home a bit more day light.

I will be back in the UK last week in July to the first week in September. I have to be at a wedding on the 10th of August in all places Wales. But I intend to get in as many city games as I can.

Will I though be watching prem games hahahahaha at BS3 ?????

  7. We have recently celebrated the Ashton gate 8 and other City teams that have achieved sone very impressive milestones in the history of our club. Even Freight Rover Troffey final at the old Wembley stadium, some great playoff games and some great cup runs. The turmoil of relegation and the escalation of promotion from the lower divisions to where we are now at.

Let us not forget our connection with Leeds United as we have been very lucky to get some of their great players that wore our proud City shirts.

I have no issue with this as it implies there is only one team in Bristol so no real need to clarify the City part!

I quite often mix with various people from the UK on a weekly basis. I love their respective different accents. I’m always proud to say I’m Bristol City and what club do you support.
At the end of the day you are either red or blue in BrIstol and red has always been in my blood.

Quiz question to get things started. Which seven football clubs in the Scottish and English senior divisions have names which include North, South, East or West in their title?  A clue, we played one of them last time out and this thread is about another! Answer at the end.

    Officials

    Referee: Darren England
Assistant Referees: James Mainwaring and Alex James
    Fourth Official: Stephen Martin

England last officiated the Irons in Premier League action back in December 2021 - a 4-1 win for David Moyes' side away at Watford.

The 38-year-old oversaw Hull City's 1-1 draw with fellow EFL Championship side Birmingham City in the FA Cup third round, and has officiated four Premier League games so far this season.

England also has two showpiece finals under his belt, refereeing the 2016/17 EFL League Two Play-Off final between Blackpool and Exeter City, which Blackpool won 2-1, and the 2018/19 FA Youth Cup final which Liverpool won, by beating Manchester City on penalties.

England will be assisted by James Mainwaring and Alex James.

Mainwaring is a highly experienced assistant, who has ample experience in the Premier League and across UEFA European competitions. He has run the line at 17 Premier League matches this season.

James, meanwhile, worked with Mainwaring in the FA Cup third round match between Middlesbrough and Aston Villa - a game which Villa won 1-0 - and is a regular assistant referee in the EFL. He has worked on 20 Championship matches this season.

Stephen Martin will undertake fourth official duties for Tuesday's replay.

The official from Staffordshire took charge of Maidstone United's 1-0 win over Stevenage in the FA Cup third round and has also refereed eleven Championship matches this campaign.

The Video Assistant Referee will not be in operation but Goal Line Technology will.

    Come on you Reds!

Great post JB, do you remember Alf Garnett / Warren Mitchell who was a great actor, and I will always remember him as one of the great Hammers supporters. You got to admit 'IM FOREVER BLOWING BUBBLES" is a classic. Let's hope the Hammers fans tonight will be kept quiet.

I'd be lying if I said that the Preston result hadn't stolen some of the wind from my sails before this match. It's the hope that kills you when it comes to City; I'm happy with us storming a league season and I can get my head around/get used to us being shit all year, what I struggle with is the yo-yoing between 'we might make a run for the play-offs' one minute and 'get used to ending 15th come the end of the year so results don't tank my mood,' the next.

This said, I'll be there and cheering with everyone else.

Up and down and up and down I'm afraid it's always the way. A few good wins strung together, and it gets all our hopes up and then out of the blue we experience the odd dismal play and result. The Preston result was very disappointing, and I thought bugger who cares about the Hammers replay. But guess what we City supporters are used to the inconsistent results.

I will be cheering on at around 0400am my time in OZ. My gut feel is though a Hammers win 2-1 but my heart is obviously a reverse of that and at least a good cup run this season for us which would bring some great morale all round. Coyredsssssssssss

In respect of a slightly bigger picture I thought early on:

Below 60 pts- Disappointing, stagnant at best.

60-62..that's okay. Small but tangible, 60 the minimum really.

63-65 pts- Definite progress, signs of it.

    >65 pts- Clear clear signs.

Mr Pop, yes agree what you have indicated is an honest assessment.

I must admit the media centre corner or whatever it is does seem like it's a touch overkill in terms of the space it takes up within the ground at the expense of seats.  Not sure why they couldn't have designed it slightly differently so more seats were in that corner

It's just not how many seats are possible as many other factors need to be taken on board around building compliance. I.E fire systems, safe egress, lighting, extra seats may also trigger local by laws on car parks etc.

72 years young and an absolute gentleman. I was lucky enough to meet him yesterday (Thanks Neil!)

    Happy birthday Tom,

Great player, I remember season 75/76 the promotion season and Tom netted more goals than the Big Cheese. Tom always wore the number 8 shirt back then and I remember us very young teenager's then playing football at the old SWEB ground at Stockwood Lane which later became the city training ground for a few years. Us kids at the time painted number 8 on the back of our tee shirts.

Tom was also Citys top scorer in division 1 for most of the seasons we were there, and only young Kevin Mabbutt may of just pipped him later in the 70s.

The years Tom played for city were a great era and those of us old enough I'm sure will treasure those years.

Hopefully the younger ones amongst us will see city in the topflight in the not-too-distant future and see other city players in years to come with the talents of Tom.

    Hi fellow OTIBers....

Taking my son to his first game at the Gate tomorrow and wondered what time the players coach usually arrives. He'd love to get his shirt signed by a player or two if possible or just to see them.

Hi red rob, all the best and I hope your son has a great enjoyable day and turns into a city fanatic going forward.

Not much else going on , so thinking forward to Monday.
I doubt Williams will play 3 in a row, TC looked lively coming on so I am thinking they could be 2 changes.
Bell looked ok too , but I have a feeling Manning will persevere with Mehmeti. I wonder if we might have a new name on the bench as well , would be good.
So as I see it, the line up could be.

    Screenshot2023-12-30at21_26_02.png.317d5bc5199c545befad38d0796cbaa2.png

Manning, dare I say seems to have everything clicking in place at the moment and it is great to see that all on OTIB seem to now trust in him as he did have a poor start. Whichever the starting 11 Manning puts on the park for kick off would be the correct one in his mind and his coaching team.

He does not have many options, but it will be 3 points in the bag for us up against a Millwall side which seem to be not what they used to be.

My spot was right behind the dug-outs, stood on an old orange (the fruit) crate while my Dad stood a few terrace-steps back with all his old cronies (well, in their thirties and forties they were all 'old' to me!).

I remember the strong smell of tobacco in the air, probably originating mostly from the many pipe-smokers all around the place....

I remember when it rained hard you could get to the back of the enclosure in front of the wall of the grand stand above and depending on the direction of the rain you could keep dry. Later years I often sat in the old grandstand in the block next to the east end. The atmosphere at Ashton Gate then was so great I will never ever forget it

As someone who spent the Division 1 days stood in the open section just as you got in the East End - but wasn't part of the City mob - I remember numerous incursions into the EE by away fans.

All the London teams in particular it was expected and eagerly anticipated with a great mob of City fans assembled at least an hour before the game.

Spurs I remember sauntered in at about 2.15 as if they owned the place, smiles all over their faces arrogantly looking over towards the middle of the EE, until the mob they were apparently looking for descended on them unexpectedly, all hell broke loose, and they were booted out, literally, within a couple of minutes, and far from smiling.

As you say as a young non participant it all added to the day's excitement and entertainment.

Great memories in the 70s at Ashton Gate. My spot was the old enclosure next to the tunnel.
