Traffic outside re-directed?

The Mayor is very keen on closing streets and reclaiming them for non car users. I wonder if he would allow Fire Enginge Hill to be closed for a couple of hours for football fans. My guest would be not as there wont be  jugglers, stilt walkers , hipsters and middle class people not from Bristol who live in Cotham.

No.

Maybe if the day continues to progress in its upwards manner it will become a real consideration for the Landlord and fans, but there will always be the issue of the best laid plans being shelved due to TV coverage.

Prior to becoming Mayor Mr Ferguson personally allowed this. One side of the Tobacco Factory was on offer for a Bristol City related mural ... It may be surprising what opportunities there are in BS3.

FLAG DAY Evening post..

Bristol City flag day to take place on April 18 ahead of Coventry City home game

Bristol City fans are organising a special celebration to mark what they hope will be a triumphant end to the season.

City have six games to play and are five points clear of their nearest rivals Preston North End.

And there are high hopes that the season will come to a close with a promotion back into the Championship.

Each year Robins fans hold a special flag day and this year the event is being held on Saturday, April 18, the weekend that the team is taking on Coventry City.

Hundreds of fans are expected to take part in the event which is being held on West Street in Bedminster. Each year the gathering is held at the Three Lions pub and is becoming a fixture on the fans' calendar.

Everyone who turns up is being encouraged to bring a flag and wear their City shirts.

The game kicks off at 3pm but celebrations are expected to start in the morning.

The Three Lions is normally covered in flags for the event and many of the fans bring their banners and scarves. The pub is just a few minutes' walk from Ashton Gate and has long been a gathering point for City fans.

The pub was originally called the Three Horseshoes but changed name for Euro 96.

Since then the pub has become something of a south Bristol institution and right at the hub of Bristol City's football community.

The walls are covered with City memorabilia and pictures of Bristol's sporting heroes both past and present.

Last year a similar event was held which attracted several hundred people. It was held on the last Saturday of April shortly before City's game against Crewe.

It was also a chance to mark the closure of the East End, with the famous old stand making way for the redevelopment of the Ashton Gate stadium.

Fans are being urged to turn up as early as possible to grab the best possible space for the event, which is organised by a group known as the East End Ultras, part of the most vocal section of the crowd.

Anyone wanting more information on the event should visit the fans'website/forum http://www.whenthemoonshines.co.uk

Football flags and banners have long been a part of the matchday exeperience.

England fans are know across the world for the amount of banners they bring to games across the world.

Flag days, when fans of a certain team get together to celebrate, tend to be more popular north of the border.

Celtic and Rangers in particular have a long tradition of holding flag days.

In recent times clubs themselves have organised official flag days in a bid to bring more colour and atmosphere into grounds.

Both Everton and Manchester United have held clubbacked flag days in recent seasons.

The Pub changed its name in 1998 not 1996 as the article states. I know its a minor trival detail but these papers should relay try and get the facts right.

Its welcome seeing something unexpectedly appearing in the Bristol post such as this.

"Flag days, when fans of a certain team get together to celebrate, tend to be more popular north of the border. Celtic and Rangers in particular have a long tradition of holding flag days."

Its now a Bristol tradition, influenced by nobody, it is now the done thing.
