EmersonsRed
I will watch and enjoy cricket until the day I die, but I genuinely think that WIndies performance to beat us will be the oddest loss ever... No idea where it came from, they are awful

Both have become T20 specialists and are returning for the one T20 game at Durham............ The remains Windies players are improving as the win at Trent Bridge showed but there is lots of unrest within the Windies set up largely because some Windies players feel they're not paid what they think they're worth. Hence several Windies players go where the money is - T20.

Hence several Windies players go where the money is - T20. This has been the same for years, time to stop worrying about them, the WIndies test side is the side that just faced us. They will never play test cricket again, it's pointless talking about them. In effect they're retired from test cricket. If Germany went to the euros without Hummels, Boateng, Neuer etc and conceded 7 goals a game, we wouldn't say 'several of the Germany stars were missing'... We'd say they were crap in the tournament... WIndies test side is awful. The unrest will never change for test cricket, they don't make enough from home tours to pay the players what they want. Like Bumble said on Sky after test 1, forget them, they're irrelevant. WIndies cricket is not in a good place.
Mr Popodopolous
Congratulations to Jimmy. Great landmark to reach, great player for England. TMS without Blofeld. Another of the old crew gone. Enjoyable series all in all. Catching was woeful from both sides though, bit of a throwback to when sides were not good at fielding. Our lower order is invaluable... Get feeling we will need it big time in Australia. Top order was and is a concern but the ball has been doing a fair bit all summer so it's always difficult in those circs. Windies...clearly not very good, nor awfully experienced also. Strike me as kind of side who can pull out a performance every so often. Ranging from a well fought loss to a major shock win. Been fairly similar with them for a while.
Robbored
It's been a good week with the cricket this week. England win the series 2-1 and Somerset beat Warwickshire and Tres bagged a century.

A lot of the old eccentric characters have gone. Old enough to remember Johnners and remember the "just couldnt get his leg over" moment live. Also Truman, Trevor Bailey and who can forget CMJ (sadly missed). As much as i love Aggers, Vaughan, Tuffers, Geoffrey, Victor i just can not connect with the likes of Ed Smith or Charles Dagnall. I like Simon Mann (not because hes a red) but because he knows his cricket and his passion shines through. Personalities like Blowers was always a part of TMS and him retiring is an enevitable shame. Happy retirement dear old thing.

Admin Maesknoll Red Posted September 9, 2017 Admin Report Share Posted September 9, 2017 Johnners was fantastic, I fear the new wave BBC will ensure that even TMS has to be dragged kicking and screaming into the the 21st century, which is a shame. I think Tuffers will become the new 'old character' but the wonderful, old world irrelevance and observational chatter on a wide range of subjects will suffer.

I`m trying hard to warm to Graham Swann but struggling and when Sir Geoffrey decides to hang up his stick of rhubarb........ At least the female commentators like Alison Mitchell and Ebony R-B know their stuff and are there on merit, not just there to meet some sort of daft quota. Whatever happens, it will still be a national institution and remain one of the best sports coverages there is I`m sure.
Admin Maesknoll Red Posted September 9, 2017 Admin Report Share Posted September 9, 2017 I am not a fan of the female commentators, TMS and the football, it's not their knowledge or style, it's the squawking when they get excited, too high pitched and the exaggerated enthusiasm that goes on just a little too long. I've heard him in passing on TV when Sky have shown Windies home matches and they use the host broadcaster's commentary but this is the first time I've heard him on radio. He's very good, an excellent replacement for the late Tony Cozier.
Lanterne Rouge
I do enjoy Andrew`s stat input too, he comes over as a good laugh. Really hoping Jim Maxwell has recovered enough to cover at least some of the Ashes this winter too, he was sounding good and was hopeful he would be when I heard an interview with him the other day.
