Weymouth on the way back up

A few years ago Weymouth had a disastrous season and after a 9-0 defeat it was found the Manager & owner had bet heavily on the other team to win. Weymouth dropped deeper into football's pyramid.

They have slowly rebuilt though and today they won the Nat League South P/O so next season will be in the Nat League. ?

Yeah, mine too.  I had a pair of BCFC pyjamas with the number 4 on the back. Best midfielder we have had in the 50+ years i've been going to the gate.

Served petrol to Gerry when I was about 16 and got his autograph (no selfies in those days).

my second home so well done Terras - was discussing this game earlier up the Legion and I mentioned watching City play a friendly down there in the early 90s (on checking it turns out it was 28 years ago to the very day, 1st August 1992)

Think I went to that one too, in the back of a van, along with one or two other gentleman of this forum. Don't go to many games in the back of vans nowadays, not down thataway .....

Claridge did but not Gow and now he's manager/director of Salisbury City

Gerry Gow did manage Weymouth in ( about ) 89-90. Went on to manage Portland United  as well.

Regarding his grandson, he’s actually on loan at Weymouth from Bournemouth.

Copied from the Bournemouth website.

Brennan Camp joined the Cherries in 2007 and progressed through the ranks before signing his first professional contract in 2019.

Born in Dorchester, he was schooled at Royal Manor on Portland and scouted by the club playing for Weymouth during a grassroots tournament.

In 2018/19, Camp captained the Cherries youth team to the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup – the club’s best run in the competition for 50 years.

In September 2019, Camp, who has trained with Eddie Howe’s first-team squad, was an unused substitute in the Cherries’ Carabao Cup third-round defeat against Burton Albion.

Camp has spent time on loan with Portland United, Poole Town, Dorchester Town and rejoined National South Weymouth for a second spell in October 2019.

In February 2019, Camp was called up by Scotland under-19s and scored on his debut in a 2-0 win over Azerbaijan in a friendly in Murcia, Spain.

During a tournament in Portugal in March 2019, he made substitute appearances in a 3-1 victory over Turkey and a 4-0 defeat by Portugal.

Camp is the grandson of the late Gerry Gow, who made more than 500 appearances for Bristol City, Manchester City, Rotherham United and Burnley. He was also capped by Scotland under-23s and managed Yeovil Town and Weymouth.

Was that when we had signed Akinbiyi and Soren Andersen?

Went to the game if so but didn’t realise it was that long ago!

Ah! My mistake , the show must have been about SC when he was playing there, no idea why they made the show except Weymouth was a basket case back then

Ian Ridley was the Weymouth chairman at the time, he was a fairly well known journalist and author at the time, I imagine he pulled a few strings to get that documentary done to get Weymouth publicity.

Incidentally, I think it was Steve Johnson (Gary’s brother)that took over after SC was sacked, but he didn’t last  long until he too was sacked!!.

Interestingly, the goalkeeper for their opponents today, Dartford, is Sesay on loan from us. Jordan Wynter also played for Dartford in the game.

Sesay is no longer with City.

Spent most school holiday at Weymouth as grandparents had caravans at Littlesea, then retired there.  Good to see Terracottas doing well.

Got kicked out of Alexandra Gardens Amusements as my bruv and cousin got caught putting football coins into the fruit machines!!
