Another question, I hope someone can answer, how much of Winterstoke Road do they close off? Looks like I am on taxi duty and wondered where to meet them.

Depending on where you are coming from, Ashton Drive (not via Winterstoke Road) might be a good option

Williams and James threw Bell under the bus big time. Bell was struggling but he had absolutely no support so could either close down a man and be passed around or stand off and be run at.

Once again we played at a lethargic pace that prevented us creating anything. If that’s our midfield next season we’re in trouble.

To me, from some distance, it looked like Pearson was shouting at Kalas at one point and telling him that he should be positioned closer to Bell.

I’m not criticising Klose at all, he’s a good CB - just pointing out that he was hesitant when in possession and it wasn’t always because he had no options, several times he had Dasliva on his left but didn’t use him and I’m wondering if he was under instructions.

I read an article a while back where Arsenal CB Ben White explained that he tried to avoid passing to the full back, unless the FB is in lots of space, as that ball is often targeted by the opponents press.

  4. A video has been leaked showing the police putting an end to a “party” involving some England and Australia players at 6am on Monday. The video only shows a few players from either side having a drink outside but the video was filmed by Graham Thorpe who drunkenly narrates which players are there and said he was videoing it for the lawyers. It’s going to be pretty uncomfortable for him given it has made it to the press. Fitting way to end a shambles of a tour.

That bloke is just a ten a penny knee jerking know-all who loves the sound of his own voice and can't stand anyone with an opposing view. He just reacts to results.

I hit the mute button when he spouts his rubbish and he is the reason I've stopped listening to the pod cast he is on.

Mind you, there are a few other ignorant and negative feckwits that get on RB for both clubs in this city. Its time that the format was changed for the after match programme, its getting predictable and stale.

Can’t recall if it was Ian or Mark who thanked “our” listeners last night before correcting himself to “your”.  I get the impression with either of them that it wouldn’t have just been a slip of the tongue.

    Oooooooo, Reneeeeeee

In fairness, I like Rene, and the link with McGreal will be from their Colchester days….but we also know Gilmartin goes back to Watford / Ashton.

Wonder if Richard Lee is also there doing some “consultancy” in addition to his role as a director at the player agency Refuel Performance Management. Must come in handy when recommending players to sign.

    It's a given that I don't have a great track record of spotting a player ....

    That said,
I'm not seeing what's needed with Janneh just yet. Has a bit of pace, but control and touch has looked off when I've seen him. Wells gets murdered for a poor touch, wonder if Janneh would be afforded more time.
I look forward to Conway getting fit. May not have that real pace, but touch and movement is really good.
Not sure about Britton, drifts a bit. Hasn't got pace, seems a little like Martin when running in behind, can't quite shake the defender. But give him a chance and nearly everything hits the target.

Will be interesting to see which, if any of these really make it.

He may not be ready / good enough but we will not know until he plays and he couldn’t make us any less of a threat! He will hopefully have the fearlessness to run at people and make things happen. Martin currently looks like a centre backs dream so I think we need to try something different. Maybe Wells and Weimann to start up front with Janneh or Bell off the bench.

  8. Given the money wasted on players, it baffles me why Lansdown has not used his money to create an elite recruitment department. Go and study how those sides that overachieve through good recruitment do it and identify the best person you possibly can to run it. It seems like a no brainer. Instead we’re nearly 20 years into Lansdown’s reign and we have a recruitment department made up of a small group of analysts / interns!

Yet he was/is essential to the shape/formation that Hungary played in the Euros. Amazing the bloke even plays professional football.

I’m judging him playing for us over 2 seasons in a team whose game plan is to not sit 11 men behind the ball and comparing his ability to what I expect a top championship midfielder to be like given that the poster I replied to suggested Nagy could play in the Prem.

Blimey by the sound of things you think it's unlikely that we could give him away.

As far as we were stupid enough to buy him I’m there will be someone else who will do the same!

Dave we had a long discussion about Nagy earlier in the summer, especially anout positions etc.

When picked for us he's played in the roles that have been asked of him by managers who seemingly want to play him here there and everywhere.

Personally I think he can and probably would excel in a more forward 3 and we've had that discussion too.

However here we are with his place in the team being taken over by someone who's 30 plus and not played Champs football in donkeys

It marks the 3rd successive manager who's tried to square peg, round hole or left him out completely.

A few have mentioned bit part elsewhere  Nagy came through at a similar age to HNM at Ferencvaros and then went to Bologna in Serie A to carry on learning. (being a similar age to Vyner at Aberdeen etc there, but clearly at a much higher level.)

We've literally been a step down for him, and not utilised the asset we have.

Wouldn't be shocked to see him in the Prem and am absolutely dismayed as to how much we've wasted a player of his calibre.

I have never seen such a rose-tinted post about a player. A player of his calibre ? I can’t recall one game for us where he has stood out as anything special. Physically weak, not great on the ball, and good stamina but zero intelligence in terms of how to maintain shape.

  12. Part of me thinks that given the circumstances Cotterill left us in, he’d be interested in the opportunity to get Rovers promoted and stick two fingers up to Lansdown. If he does go there, I think I will bet on him getting them promoted next season.
