  1. It reminded me of the programme about Robert Freegarde - the bloke who persuaded three agricultural college students he was an MI5 spy - and who basically got them to syphon money from their families to him and kept the con going for 10 years. Simultaneously, he was doing romantic cons on all sorts of women across the country. He wasn't anything particular to look at, much like the "Simon Leviev" guy. It seems part of how these conmen work is by creating a state of hysteria and nervousness among their marks. Freegarde told his a Real IRA hit squad was looking for them and him; the Tinder Conman used a pretend attack on his bodyguard and said his life and "fortune" was at risk from Russian mafia figures. There's an interesting psychological study to be done here in how anxiety is linked to gullibility.
  2. In his interview, Fleming said O'Dowda picked up a twinge, whatever that means. I'm sure he didn't try to persuade him to stay on though!
  3. Considering the amount he's contributing, £500 a week would not be unreasonable. Apparently, he can't even organise a good Christmas party like Jody Morris.
  4. I'm adding Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) & Pete Shelley (the Buzzcocks) to that list. Plus why has no one mentioned either Ray Davies or Paul Weller??! If you want a wild card, I'm going to throw in Carl Puttnam of late80s/early 90s band Cud. His lyrics are wordy and funny as hell.
  5. But did any of them attempt to strangle their wives, Gray? I can't imagine he came THAT cheap wages wise. Played 8 games for us in 11 months, 5 starts, was subbed in all but 2. Last seen in August.
  6. There can be few hero to zero stories as stark as Drinkwater's. If only he lived up to his name.
  7. Reckon so? Other than Ince and perhaps Rinomhota I wasn't impressed. A tall squad. Not a very skilful squad. Their defence was particularly at sixes and sevens. Whenever we ran at them, they flapped and backed off like a Bristolian EPL team fan asked to point to his side's home stadium on a map! We endeavoured to screw it up by forgetting how weak they were at dealing with runs and instead attempting slow build-up play. Even Bristol city couldn't stuff that one up though. They are doomed.
  8. I'm hoping when he left the field he didn't go the changing rooms but went straight to the carpark and then kept driving until either until he got either to the Fishguard-Rosslare ferry or he turns right on the M4 and goes back to Oxfordshire, where he's really from.
  9. I thought he was superb. Understandably tired near the end of the game, but 90-minute fitness will come as he plays more. I thought he was magical...
  10. Yup. Could pull themselves out of trouble very soon. Ta-ta Reading. Maybe your supporters can try and think of one original song when you're in L1.
  11. That was the other thing, there were some shirt pulls, kicks off the ball, body checks and other infringements that WERE fouls but not given. Unfortunately, he had seemed to form the opinion that every time a player's body touched a blade of grass that WAS a foul.
  12. Suffering from a bad side. (Not my joke, someone on Facebook's)
  13. I'd like to add my love and condolences as well. Your 'Red family' stand firmly by your side and your post was a very brave and sensible one. RIP Gabriel
  14. They reckon that a sedentary lifestyle does leave one more open to these types of injury....
  15. I doubt the players have yet been born who'll represent us when we next host a world cup.
  16. I don't dislike COD. He's a trier. Rarely gives less than 100%. BUT I've got to agree, Gray. Pato's ability to beat the last defender always exceeded Callum's.
  17. How dare you not follow established Otib practice of blaming every goal on one scapegoat, but instead mention that a number of people were involved! I'm going to depart from Otib "usual practice" as well, by adding in the attacking players who didn't score or keep the ball in the Blackpool half and the midfielders who allowed the downfield runs thus exposing the defenders we love to criticise.
  18. My father-in-law is ecstatic tonight. A long-term 'Wood fan. He's 92. This might finish him off! So much classic film was shot in Elstree: from Titanic to Raider of the Lost Ark, to the Guns of Navarone to Quadrophenia. Oh yeah, and now the old ATV studios pump out Eastenders and Holby City. Sorry about that.
  19. Probably something to do with tanks. My family no longer go with me on my regular pilgrimages to Bovington. ?
  20. Simply illustrates what people have been saying. We are pretty mediocre, but not as awful as last year. With a total absence of transfer funds tying Pearson's hands, I'm not sure why anyone expects anything more. At the start of the season, some fella put an end season predictor poll on here. I went for the 14-18th option and still see no reason to doubt that choice.
  21. Glad you clarified. I thought some had forgot to get off the motorway and ended up the other side of Glasgow!
  22. I reckon they've got Tom Daley on their coaching staff.
  23. Parachute payments make the division as a whole unbalanced. Today was a bad performance. I'd worry if there was a run of such performances, but hopefully we'll return to being more positive next week. Last season we were diabolical, this season we are mediocre and inconsistent. The general trend is towards improvement, even though you get downward blips like today.
  24. Well that was shite. It happens. Hopefully the lessons will be learned by Wednesday.
