Think I was there for that one-

David James made one hell of a save down low to save the point

Was it McWinless' first game in charge??!

You may well be right, my memory is addled by the amount of cider I consumed that night! I have vague memories of West Ham hitting the bar too but who knows

Yep I think it is evolving into something good while not being a finished product. Yes we lost but usually Norwich come in here to dominate the ball and chances. Today, we did that. 60% possession with 15 shots with 6 on target according to LiveScore. We rarely do that at home and even more rare to a team with quality that Norwich have. We lost but I actually feel like we have a future again. Not just a % side who wants to keep it tight and play for set pieces.

Norwich of the past maybe but that was a poor side we played against today whose own fans were booing them yet we still conceded two, they hit the post and Barnes missed a very good chance. We had 60% of possession, the majority of which was backwards or sideways passing achieving nothing. I’d rather have 40% of the ball and win

Yes Oxford. A team that plays the Gas. It's a crap league.

If we aspire to be just a middling to small championship side then this is the type of appointment that we should have expected and accept.

It's got nothing to do with arrogance. If the hierarchy want City not to be an average team in the Championship then we need to stop acting like we are just an average club. It really is that simple.

Well said. Giving a 38 year old with no previous championship experience the job in November with an expectation of top 6 is unrealistic.

Managers, players, staff all talk to each other - the way the club is run and the interference from the board will put off decent, proven candidates which means we’re pushed into a lower level, younger manager who will not challenge the status quo and will be glad of the job. Which is exactly the type of candidate SL and the rest want.

I hope Manning succeeds, but the pressure on him to will be immediate and is not of his own doing

Thank you for the information. I’m still to be convinced tbh but I’d have reservations about anyone right now.

However if it is to be Manning and his style and success is based upon this particular style of play, then to get players in place at championship level is going to take either:

    a) a huge amount of money. Players of the calibre you describe are going to cost.   A lot.  Transfers, wages, loan fees, lost value on players we have who will need to be transferred out to accommodate any movement etc etc.

    or

    b) a huge amount of time to coach the players to his style (less likely as I don’t think we have players who can adapt)

Both options - time and / or money - we have been explicitly told by the owner and his ‘top team’ that we do not have in any way shape or form.

So on that conclusion I don’t see how we can go for him. Which means we probably will…….

My view too, I don’t know enough about Manning but if Nige was sacked for not getting us near the top of the table then how is it fair to expect someone less experienced (no experience at champ level?) to suddenly come in and achieve more than Nige did with the same players, budget, resources?

I totally disagree with the decision to sack Nige but if you’re going to do it for the reasons given then you better make sure you have the right man to come in and immediately show improvements. An appointment of Manning, Williams etc with that level of pressure is setting them up to fail

Whilst I couldn’t say whether I agree or not, who’s your top 3 greatest ever players for England?

David Nugent, Michael Ricketts and Jay Bothroyd for me

Aussies 82/1.  England would be 200/7 probably. Wildly different tactics

Aus doing just fine now and in control but going nowhere, if we get 2-3 quick wickets (seems unlikely!) they could be in a pickle going so slowly and still 200 behind

Only if there is a loan back,

I was also thinking about those moaning about selling our best players,

Where were we in the league with both Scott and semenyo in the side? Because it wasn't challenging for the play-offs, so keeping those 2 and not strengthening how does that suddenly make us promotion contenders....it doesn't,

You sacrifice 1 exceptional player and sign 3 or 4 great players with the cash and suddenly your team is alot better

There is no chance of this happening in my view. Wolves, Bournemouth whoever are not going to spend £20million plus on the championship player of the year to loan him straight back out again.

I don’t think that would be beneficial for Alex either
