Surprised Jason Fowler didn't play for Twyford, his uncle was a first elevener at the time Jason would have been playing.

Twyford use to play opposite side of the road to shirehampton cc didn’t they ,

I use to go up and watch shire ( fair few years back ) lovely setting on a nice Sunday summers afternoon and nice clubhouse for some reason I use to miss the last couple of hours ☀️☀️🍻🍻💤💤

Yep, gotta know where to go.

I still have the memory of being very pissed and spilling my Pernod and black onto some blokes white jeans in a club.  Time to make a sharp exit….with some of my mates inside as it all kicked off!

    Pernod & black 🙈 , that’s a drink for a man of a certain age / era

20 years since my first tournament in Portugal 2004.

Doing Eng v Denmark in Frankfurt. Flying to Paris then a lovely train journey through the Alsace to Frankfurt Hbf arriving late afternoon on the Wednesday.

The good news for City fans is that Frankfurt is Germanys cider city, so lots of cider taverns south of the river, which is where I'll be heading!

Surely there’s a train strike or overtime ban going on which will mess your plans up 👀

Flying to Amsterdam for a night then train to Essen for the first game. I'm then spending a few days going down the Rhine between the first 2 games (Koblenz, Bacharach etc), then train down to Frankfurt for the 2nd game. Then train out to Berlin for a couple of days before flying back to Bristol. Will go back out for the final if we get there.

Lucky it’s not British rail , your plans would be fxxked 🙈

Brum was definitely the biggest turnout away I saw. Thing about City is that there were groups from all over this area - Taunton, Bath, Portishead, Barton Hill, Knowle West, etc to name a few who when all together could cause mayhem. I know most of the “happy clappers” on here will disagree but away with Bristol City was great fun in the 80s and 90s.

@redkev I was at Swindon away when the terracing got ripped up. 4th Div days if I remember right? Nasty atmosphere that day. Just knew it was going to be lively.

Just would not get away with it nowadays.

Yes that was it fish , horrid atmosphere from early doors right until we got back to Bristol , I think that game and Brum away were the worst I have seen City fans in all my years , mind you Reading Elm Park was quite a day aswell

  6. Also remember a time at Peterborough where a few young lads ( shirters I believe ) got a bit of a kicking , the next year Peterborough didn’t know what hit them , city fans all over the town centre , I’m sure a Peterborough lad actually come up to a group of city fans and just basically said fair play we’re not competing with your lot

City had a proper mob back in those days. Way above Swindon’s league.

I can go back further , this time away to Swindon , the time the terracing got ripped up city fans in the roof and in a nightclub that had a lunch time disco city fans were basically doing what they wanted , I remember walking up some stairs as a gaming machine came in the opposite direction , not much interaction with Swindon fans that day think they pretty much stayed out of the way

  8. I personally hope he does well ( obviously not at city’s expense) brilliant player and listening to his punditry talks well and sense and a winners mentality, sadly missing in players these days quite happy to accept defeat and pick up the wedge ,

I reckon Swindon were kept in our place for ninety minutes when Gordon Owen missed the pen, they were surrounded and on the pitch and outside

Think the police thought the longer they kept them in the ground even though they initially came out then done a quick u turn back in the ground city fans would slowly disperse , if I remember correctly there were still hundreds of city fans there gone 6 o clock

Strange day , looked like an organised picnic on GS park, until they tried to bring Swindon out and everyone was up and back towards the ground.

Threatening violence towards a Police officer ?

    Not really surprised surely .

Deserves the ban for being a tit. Not sure if he was trying to impress his mates , but with all the cameras around you aren't going to get away with much.

Remember the Swindon game really well , I was on the little hill in the park outside the open end where the away fans come out , i remember about 50 Swindon making a bolt for it got about as far as the rising sun then thought fxxk this and headed straight back towards the ground , made I laugh they got a kicking both ways . Not that I’m condoning it 👀

I think it's naive at best to suggest we don't have any hooligan following anymore but would agree it's not what it was and certainly not on a level of what some countries still have.

What we do have is a lot of idiots. I went to Marseille in 2016 and although what happened on the waterfront that Saturday morning wasn't the fault of anyone down there - there was certainly a lot of England fans in the fan park the Friday night causing mischeif, winding up home fans and a lot of vandalism of cars upon leaving the fan park.

Agree marcus lots of idiots but like I said if there not in Germany being idiots they will be in a town centre near you or me or Benidorm etc etc being idiots but alongside them will be just normal people singing and drinking and that will attract the hardcore European hooligans who will wipe the floor with the young British drunks

A long time ago, of course, but I've only done 1 England tournament (Portugal 2004) & it was amazing! Just not had the time or foresight to plan going again since, bit will consider it when my son I'd a little older & maybe take him for the experience -

Anyway - my story regarding tickets was that we bought some England tickets off of one of the then sales sites (can't remember which) paid about double face value, which we were perfectly happy with & they turned out to be from a City fan, locally.

Bought them, went, loved it - England v Croatia (as a side note, we also picked up other England tickets in the Taxi queue from some Dutch lads)

Anyway, about 15 years later, having seen me posting on here - I got a message from this City fan, saying he'd always regretted "over charging" a fellow City fan for the tickets & insisted on meeting up at Ashton Gate to refund me the money!

I agreed, just to meet up for a beer - what an amazing, genuine gesture!

Anyway - envious of those going to Germany - I reckon it will be a fantastic host nation & the whole tournament experience is like nothing else.

Hope all that are going enjoy it & see some level of England success!

Really hoping it’s a good tournament, the only thing that slightly concerns me for England fans is the rise in hooliganism in Europe as we know we basically don’t have an England hooligan following just lads on a jolly , and as we know England fans will be out there loud & proud outside bars drinking & singing think this will attract rival supporters to attack the England fans , thinking it’s England hooligans of the past but really it will just be loud drunk lads on a jolly that could easily be in any town centre on a Friday Saturday night or a stag do in Benidorm as some of these foreign ultras ( god  I hate that word ) are pretty organised up for it lads , hope I’m wrong

2004 was a great tournament and i genuinely felt it was worth the traveling to see Rooney on fire and England playing well. 1992 was a 8 team tournament so I was home after about 8 days du to crap football. 2000 other then beating Germany was not the best and I remember all England fans being allowed to travel back free on Euro star just to get us out of the country. 2012 in Ukraine was a brilliant time and a fantastic country and saddened to see places where we stayed absolutely destroyed. 2016/2020 nothing to really write about other then beating wales in the last couple of minutes in lens ,roll on Germany

Totally agree about Rooney sticks , he was unplayable at times around that time , I use to be able to get tickets through work for Man Utd home games around that time and for a few years after ( don’t worry not a closet Utd fan but around that time they were at there pomp ) and the chance to see some of those players live and take my 2 young lads , now not so young and staunch city fans now one goes home every game and a lot of away games too , was a chance I didn’t want to miss , watching Rooney live in that Utd side was as good as it gets he gets a fair bit of stick but by god he wasn’t half decent , sometimes don’t think he gets the accolades he deserves
