  1. Dickie, Atkinson & Vyner are all comfortable on the ball. Zak has the ability to pass really well but does throw loose ones in too often as well. All teams playing out from the back get caught. I couldn't believe Ipswich kept doing it against us. You can argue they won so it worked, but it worked because we didn't punish them when we robbed the ball deep in their half.
  2. Reacting on emotion is rarely good. Always an exception though & I understood Carl Shutt's forearm smash against Fred Barber at Fellows Park all those years ago.
  3. One of my favourite goals & away performances of all time. Andy Leaning got a goal on debut as well!
  4. Because we lack goals, we miss someone like Sykes more than say Rob A (because we're currently well-stocked at Centre Back). You wonder if Sykes could play the role that Knight is doing (similar energy, more attacking prowess) & allow Knight a more traditional midfield role.

    Max

Replace the name "Max" with virtually any other player in the squad & you're describing a lot of the forum content really.
  6. It wasn't that long ago that Zak wasn't championship standard & even more recently Conway needed a loan in league 1. What does the phrase even mean? If so many aren't at the standard needed why are we so middling & not so relegation threatened?
  7. Glad you enjoyed it! Played their debut album to death, absolutely loved them, but the live experience wasn't great. Weirdly, for a festival, the sound quality was good, the likes of Elastic & Weller were amazing.
  8. Really, the Roses are probably the most disappointing live act I've ever seen (at The Feile in Cork, early 90's). Funnily enough Massive Attack played that festival as well & were brilliant (I think, I'd had a lot of Guiness by then).
  9. Towns Talk is gurt posh now mind.
  10. I thought he struggled for minutes at Pompey?
  11. It wasn't that long along that Pring was underwhelming whilst on loan at lower league clubs. Just goes to show how players develop at different stages, but also kudos to Nige for realising that "death by a thousand loans" wasn't the right approach.
  12. I take little notice of the various teams of the week. In Twine's case (as is often) a goal gets them noticed hence they get it. I thought it was a very decent debut, could / should have had another goal & offers something a bit different to the others. However without that goal he wouldn't be in the team of the week. My only concern is that I hope he doesn't block Mehmeti, who for me, has been looking much better in the recent games.
  13. Few bigger Zak fans than me, however I think his passing has been looses all season (no better/worse pre or post Nige imo).
  14. Decent full back Myers-Briggs, but not as good as Belbin imo.
  15. Think this is unfair. He had a v good reputation when he came to us & got majorly crocked before he kicked a ball in anger. He was then rushed back (too many games in too short a time frame) & got injd again. He's not good because he wants a contract, he's good because we're finally seeing the player we thought we were buying.
  16. Tanner was v good. Matty James also good.
  17. This really is great for us; having watch us for nigh on 40 years, our ability to transform a creative player into a solid, unspectacular one is unquestionable!
  18. I think Knight would be better as a conventional box to box MF. Hopefully Twine plays just off of Conway & we don't try & make a winger out of him!
  19. If you take the emotion out of it (which manager you prefer etc) the upshot still is we had ££ to spend in the Summer, but didn't want Nige to spend it. If that's the case, why not let him go in the Summer & give someone a pre season ? I'm more of a "centrist dad" on this as im less for / against Nige or Manning than many others are. But its just such a weird way of doing business. The only slight wriggle room where I have sympathy for the club is if they felt Nige's health was causing issues, but he wouldn't accept that. I get the impression he's very loyal to colleagues & he would have known that if he went (for any reason), Phlegm & Euell would be out too.
  20. Despotic regime derby. Not for me.
  21. Had tickets to see Russell Howard at the Hippodrome last year. Beforehand, had a few beers sat outside The Ostrich in the sun & then had a meal at Gambas; some of the best tapas I've had. Just as well as Russell Howard was abysmal, genuinely didn't laugh once.
  22. I'm not saying we should have made him manager, but we squandered his time here mis-managing his injury.
  23. We really made a hash of the opportunity of having GON with us. Seems a top bloke too.
  24. As the ultimate irony, I can't go as I'm in London meeting clients, who are all West Ham fans! 2 plus points 1) over 40+ years of support I've been absent for some of our best nights (Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd) &2) at least I can watch it on the telly now.
  25. Watford, Hull, Sunderland???
