  1. Even if they were, I don't think it changes anything. If you're on the cusp of getting £20m +, why take the risk that the player injures himself? If we were about to play someone who were on thr verge of signing Scott, common sense says we don't play him but delay the deal a day or so, so he can't play for them either. I'd be amazed if he's starting tomorrow, but if he does, I think it's a sign nothing is imminent. I could be wrong mind! ?
  2. I think it depends what stage negotiations are at. If its looking likely, then he can't play; the risk of him getting severely crocked so we can neither sell him nor play him is too great.
  3. I'm really relaxed about this (possibly as I've been convinced he'll go all summer). On balance, I think better to go before the season starts; imagine how we'd feel if he's MOM 1st 3 games & then he goes. For all the stuff Nige has said in the media I suspect he's relaxed too, as he knows it's inevitable.
  4. One thing about LJ is that he was able to adapt. Most people remember him as being the link man, lots of short 5 yard passes. However he only became that once were in the Championship. The season before in League 1, Bristol Boy used to write match reports on here. One of his most frequent complaints was that LJ was always looking for the Hollywood, killer pass & it often meant we lost possession. Whatever you think of him, it's to his credit that he learned he could get away with that at Lg1 but not the Championship & he severely reigned in his passing style.
  5. Whilst I have no great love for Luton, any team that gets to the Prem without parachute payments, cheating FFP or dirty money, deserves some respect in my eyes. As someone that has little time for the Prem, the idea of it being full of teams with grounds like Kenilworth Road is hilarious to me.
  6. I can't see how the West Ham story is true. Whilst players might be signed for the 1st team squad, no manager will be promising a player guaranteed mins in the 1st team. Am pretty sure Moyes would have a similar take as Nige; performances in training/pre season dictate who gets in the team & performances on the pitch determine who stays in.
  7. I defy anyone who watched his 1st appearance (Qpr away, in the cup) to have predicated have miserably his time here would fizzle out. I was sat with a mate in the home stand & the home fans raved about him.
  8. Also worth remembering that away from football, JB is undisputably one of the good guys: 1. Did lots in the community; 2. Paid for a local players medical treatment 3. Has been v open about his issues with mental health
  9. Joe came through the ranks here & was heavily involved in one of the best seasons we've ever had. For the goal v Swindon alone, I'd forgive him pretty much anything. The truth is we have no idea what his reasons are, but he's a pro footballer (not a fan, like us) & it's entirely up to him where he wants to ply his trade.
  10. A bit niche, but Oxford away in the (I think) Milk Cup, late 80's is one of my all time favourite away trips. Andy Leaning was inspired on his debut (Dean Saunders shot came off the bar, hit Leaning & went in). Ralph Milne scored an absolute worldie & we won 4-2, a great night.
  11. I was involved in life cover for football Pro's. I suspect you could get something akin to career ending injury cover but it would be blinking expensive! In the depths of my mind i think the PFA might have such a scheme for players which probably covers all players in the PFA. However, that would be for the benefit of the player, not the club. Clubs are very patchy in the insurance cover they buy to protect themselves, & some of the uber rich effectively self insure.
  12. I was on hols in Magaluf for a week of Italia 1990. It was lively.
  13. I'm off to see the DMA's in Cardiff tonight, so I'd appreciate an earlier announcement. Not much to ask for a long standing season ticket holder......
  14. Super Bobby Taylor, all day long.
  15. I def got caught out on a Sunday! I was wandering around the market trying to find my car. A creative stall holder who sold rugs & carpets had covered it with a massive rug!
  16. Hounslow West is very good during the week, but as I found out to my cost some yrs back, they hold a market there at the weekend. There are signs everywhere (that I missed). How the stall holders laughed (not!) as they had to dismantle their stalls for me to get my car out!
  17. I thought Scott did ok (not amazing, but ok) until he had half a chance in the 2nd half & got it all wrong & fell over. From thereon he seemed to go to pieces. I don't for 1 second think it was lack of effort, but just a bad day at the office against the best team I've seen us play (for my money the only outstanding team in the division this year).
  18. Made a relatively late decision to go, wasn't sure it was worth the long drive, but it certainly was. 2 of my best away memories are Valley Parade, as the cup quarter final was a great night too (if a tad more tense).
  19. Strong disagree . Generally does a decent job & plays good football. His dour persona is not representative of how his team play.
  20. I'm sure I've read that Kane can play left back so I wouldn't be amazed if he replaces Jay for some of the remaining games.
  21. My 1st ever away game was meant to be Argyle away. Got to the outskirts of Plymouth & the coach turned around as the game had been called off. The rearranged fixture was midweek, they needed to win for promotion & we got stuffed 4 -0. Think Tynan got a hat trick. Naively I was impressed with our away following, till they scored & it was clear loads of their fans who couldn't get tickets were in our end!
  22. I thought Denis Smith would be a great manager for us. I thought Matty Taylor would be bone idle, but a clinical finisher (he was the complete opposite). I thought Tony Dinning was an astute signing after an impressive spell on loan.
  23. I was at Bradford & Coventry too. A random fave is Oxford away in the late 80s in the Milk Cup. A Ralph Milne screamer & an amazing debut from Andy Leaning!
