This thread just demonstrates to me that some people can't see beyond their bias when it comes to a manager. How anyone can doubt GJ's achievements here is extraordinary- other than Dicks he's outperformed every managed we've had in my lifetime. Clearly he wasn't perfect & he was possibly better with less money yo spend, but if you consider the state we were in prior to his arrival & what he achieved; it was amazing. Even the PO final was incredibly tight & we were at least as good as Hull that day. Had either McCombe been for or Orr not got crocked, I think we'd have won.

I think a major issue LJ has is that he's neither 1 thing or another. He wants to be the progressive forward thinking manager that measures grass, utilises drones & learns from other high performance industries. However the apple rarely falls far from the tree & he can't resist lobbing hand grenades into the dressing room when things go awry. If you think what GJ achieved then it's really hard to be critical of him. Yes his approach has a ceiling but lest not forget he got Yeovil to the Championship - that's akin to getting Luton to the Prem. I have no idea why, but it always felt to me that GJ falling out with Basso was the pivotal point after which he/we never recovered.

Am sure I read that we gave him no help settling in. He got lost on his way to his 1st game & a fan gave him directions!

I think that's part of the reason I got hooked. I started watching regularly under TC. It may be a bit of rose tinted nostalgia but we seemed to just go for it from the 1st min at home & had a great home record. Like you say away wad different (but I didn't go away much as kid so it seemed to matter less!). Weirdly, I think 2 seasons running despite being poor away, we battered Bolton 4-1.

Whilst the nature if this league means you can never predict where your points will come from, you can't really argue that after Good Friday, the fixture list is incredibly kind to us & it's pretty inexcusable not to gain some positive results/performances.

Undoubtedly he had a good connection with Nige. However, I'm sure a regular poster often commented how Jamo looked awfully lonely at the Portishead Costa a lot of the time.

It was a great day, but the complete lack of jeopardy with the result made the match a bit anti climatic didn't it? Even when we beat Bradford by 6 to go up, we had a few minor scares early on!

Absolutely agree it's down to the individual. I'm immensely proud of my children, I would expect all parents to feel the same. If I'm proud of the great things this country has done, should I also be ashamed of its atrocities? Or is it pick n mix & I just consider the bits I like? Here's a fun thing, when people say they're proud to be British, you often find out they don't like Scots or the Welsh. So they're proud to be English but they don't like Scousers, Manc's or Brummies. So then they're proud of Bristol but (quite rightly) not the Rovers bits.

Ok, so what does a nation flag signify? Each to their own, I support our sports teams but i don't really get the whole issue of national pride. We had no choice, we just happened to be born here. We could have been born anywhere & we'd have felt the same about there as here.

I genuinely don't understand how one can be proud of a flag (unless they'd personally designed/made it).

As someone who is a no's man Pop, I thought you'd notice the phrase "a small %"! Totally agree about the unnecessary sacking of Nige which has of course amplified things. However, I maintain there are a small % that will instantly want / not want whoever is the new boss & they'll struggle to remove their bias. Unless of course they appoint Holloway & we can all agree its the end of the world.

Whether Liam lasts 5 more minutes or 5 more years, this is what will happen when we appoint his replacement; A small % will instantly dislike the replacement & will find it hard to shake that, whatever he does. On balance this group will be proved right, most of our managers fail. Another small % will be totally pro the new replacement (either as they really like him or his type). These 2 small groups will make a lot of noise & drown out the majority who'll generally support the new bloke as him doing well makes their Saturdays much more fun. I've already covered my bases with fiver each on Frank Lampard & Mark Robins to be our next boss #itk

I'll renew. I don't class myself as a super fan, but its my club, irrespective of the team/coach/board. Someone the other day said that not going had improved their mental health. I'm lucky that I don't have any health issues, but the 90 mins at Ashton Gate is 1 of the few times I completely switch off & am just in the moment. Even when it's rubbish, it's only football & not stressful compared to other things in life.
