Let's face it there wasn't a flag on the England kit in '66

This has taken the shine right off '66 for me. Watched the game again last night, think the Russian linesman got it wrong, the ball didn't cross the line.

    Maybe...seems he's a bit marmite with viewers.

Comes across like a character from the sit coms he writes. Over the top.

Each to their own though. I'll still watch 👍

If you like travel & food, it's a good watch.  I might be wrong, he may be a right mardy sod in real life! 🤣

Enjoyable day, strange too . I knew we would win , not even a second thought, we just would.  It was more a celebration of the season.

It was a great day, but the complete lack of jeopardy with the result made the match a bit anti climatic didn't it?

Even when we beat Bradford by 6 to go up, we had a few minor scares early on!

It's guess it's down to the individual what they are proud about of England.

So you only support the teams because you was born here?

So I can't be proud of Bristol City because I was born here?

Shall we not be proud of our children? Simply because it was them that was born and it could have been another child that was born instead?

    See how silly that sounds?

There is nothing wrong with being proud of anything. I'm astonished we're even having this conversation.

Absolutely agree it's down to the individual. I'm immensely proud of my children, I would expect all parents to feel the same.

If I'm proud of the great things this country has done, should I also be ashamed of its atrocities? Or is it pick n mix & I just consider the bits I like?

Here's a fun thing, when people say they're proud to be British, you often find out they don't like Scots or the Welsh. So they're proud to be English  but they don't like Scousers, Manc's or Brummies. So then they're proud of Bristol but (quite rightly) not the Rovers bits.

Surely you understand its not about the actual flag but what a nations flag signifies? That’s what people are proud of.

Ok, so what does a nation flag signify?

Each to their own, I support our sports teams but i don't really get the whole issue of national pride.  We had no choice, we just happened to be born here. We could have been born anywhere & we'd have felt the same about there as here.

    Can't agree.

An element of shall we say disquiet about the change was that it was uncalled for, unnecessary etc.

Assuming the appointment of the next manager isn't a polarising figure, a known flop or perhaps with ties yo Bristol Rovers, I suspect most if not all will welcome it..

Put it this way I don't think there will be a forlorn thinking back to Manning.

As someone who is a no's man Pop, I thought you'd notice the phrase "a small %"!

Totally agree about the unnecessary sacking of Nige which has of course amplified things. However, I maintain there are a small % that will instantly want / not want whoever is the new boss & they'll struggle to remove their bias.

Unless of course they appoint Holloway & we can all agree its the end of the world.

  7. Whether Liam lasts 5 more minutes or 5 more years, this is what will happen when we appoint his replacement;

A small % will instantly dislike the replacement & will find it hard to shake that, whatever he does. On balance this group will be proved right, most of our managers fail.

Another small % will be totally pro the new replacement (either as they really like him or his type).

These 2 small groups will make a lot of noise & drown out the majority who'll generally support the new bloke as him doing well makes their Saturdays much more fun.

I've already covered my bases with fiver each on Frank Lampard & Mark Robins to be our next boss #itk

  8. I'll renew. I don't class myself as a super fan, but its my club, irrespective of the team/coach/board.

Someone the other day said that not going had improved their mental health.  I'm lucky that I don't have any health issues, but the 90 mins at Ashton Gate is 1 of the few times I completely switch off & am just in the moment. Even when it's rubbish, it's only football & not stressful compared to other things in life.

    & @Davefevs

Said at the time, Tinnion & co are even more deluded beyond words if they sacked Pearson, with the genuine belief that they could get Mousinho.

Sounds like they probably are, as Monday’s SOTC proved too.

I'd wager Pompey will have a serious crack at getting in the Prem before we do.

and the media work is now coming into scrutiny because what he’s saying is not reflected in the performances on the pitch and is frequently contradictory.

Agree with lots but not this bit. The media work is under scrutiny because of the results. Monotone, duplicitous, robotic etc would all be fine if we were winning all the time.

I reckon I've been reading the forum 20ish years & struggle to recall many positive threads about the managers pre/post match press interviews when the team is doing badly.

  11. His communication style is fine. His results are the problem.

If we'd won the last 10 & his interviews were as they are now, he be lauded as a genius & anyone that dared criticise him would be derided as a fool.

Agreed. They should have players calling those who don't renew; a personal touch would go a long, long way.

Joe Williams threatening a 2 footed tackle for non renewal is probably the best bet.

Not sure Liam is cut out for a career in telesales & the nuance of the payment plan would confuse the Technical Director.
