Just back from Taunton v Torquay.
The Gulls secured survival with a 2-1 win in a game where both teams showed their nerves, as it was dreadful as a spectacle.
How those Torquay players are professionals I'll never know. I assume most will be out of contract this summer and won't find new clubs.
A painful night for Taunton. Probably created the better chances but Torquay went ahead with two cracking goals.
Taunton hit the post and then missed a sitter in about the 80th minute. Could well be the difference between staying up and going down.
Simple equation now, beat Weston on Thursday and Hemel on Saturday to stay up.
Ben Acey number 11 for Taunton, on loan from City. Looked alright and has something about him, but difficult to make an assessment in such a poor game of football.
Well summed up. I was there too - a truly awful game of football. I too am astonished that I was watching professional footballers. Torquay’s two goals were out of character with the rest of the game. Thought their celebrations were OTT - you would have thought they’d won the Champions League!

As it should be for a relegation 6 pointer
I assume you meant my reference to the away support ? My point is that Argyle took many more than City would take. We travel badly north of Birmingham. I’ve been to Rotherham six times and we never turn up. Even in 1990 when we pretty well secured promotion (super Bob) we only took around 300!

good to see Plymouth win - as my local team - I Want them to do well but have lots of time for Rotherham. Friendly town which everyone unfairly derides and great memories of games at Millmoor - famously surrounded by a scrap yard on three sides. Great support tonight by Argyle btw - easily twice we took.

How many tickets have we sold?

The bit around Port Vale's ground in Burslem is genuinely the most grim place I've been to in this country.
Wow. Perhaps get out more.

Never underestimate the psychological boost of a win but that was a hard watch. i thought we were promised front foot attacking football but instead i see us slowing the game down at every opportunity. Max took an age over his goal kicks and when Pring was subbed he took an age to walk off (didn’t exit the pitch at the closest point) Talk about letting the opposition know you have zero confidence. We’re the bloody home team fgs!

why is O’Leary taking so long over goal kicks? Front foot football or time wasting and hoping for a 0-0?

Great band - very popular in Europe but never made it here. John Watts still touring but almost exclusively in Germany/Netherlands.

Get Geoff to replace Manming? Solve two issues at once.

What’s the betting they had this planned for the 5th round… except we didn’t make it
Getting rinsed online by other clubs fans, not that I really care but fully get the point it is a little embarrassing.
It’s a very nice shirt though, but I refrained from purchasing. Before my time so don’t have the same affinity to it but would have been nice to have as a kit for the whole season.
Don’t give a sh*t about other team’s supporters views. Massive bit of BCFC heritage and very special memories for my family. I was too young to go but was astonished to hear my Dad being interviewed by Radio Bristol at Temple Meads on returning. He’s no longer with us but I will be thinking of him this afternoon. UTC.

Probably not, I couldn't see a date on the article so assumed it was current.
Forget what I said, misread the article anyway.

I didn't realise the Hawthorns is the smallest ground in the Championship , according to the Cardiff site (and I have the year right ) . Anyway , looking around it seems 2009 is a usual allocation for visiting teams , so we can't complain too much. Though I agree , I would match them for tickets when they come to the Gate.
Smallest? Rotherham, QPR, Plymouth, Preston, Watford, Millwall. Swansea all smaller - have I misunderstood?

Not when it's set in context, ie if you explain Britain in the 1970s, how football was regarded then, how good Leeds were, what sort of news made it on to the front pages of the newspapers (what newspapers are) etc etc
Football was strictly for the back pages. It was played almost exclusively on Saturdays at 3pm. Footballers were not celebrities. In other words, the good old days. Leeds hadn't lost a single game all season and were one of the best sides in Europe. The FA Cup was a proper competition.
There was massive political, economic and social unrest at that time - yet serious people, running serious media organisations decided news of Bristol City's victory trumped all that - and lo, there was Donnie, on the front page.
That's how big a news story it was.
Inevitably, all that gets lost over the passage of time.
I believe the picture of the goal was the first picture of a footballer on the front page of the Times. (It had no pictures at all on the front page until the 1970s). Given it’s the oldest and most famous newspaper in the world, some accolade). Also first item on the BBC 6 o’clock news. It was massive news.

I think this is realistic but it doesn’t mean we don’t still dream/hope!

It was our last win at AP, and given there were, what, 200 max, City fans there, I guess there are a dwindling number of city fans left who saw that historic win.you’re making me feel very old!

If people are moaning about the performance after beating Boro away I’m quite pleased. Shows the progress we are making. i remember being at Ayresome Park when a Bob Taylor header secured our first win there in a lifetime!

It’s hardly surprising when you hear of absolute selfish tossers buying a cheap kids ticket in addition to their own so they don’t have to sit next to someone.

Ditto. You feel right on top of the action. Sunderland the other week is an impressive ground but you feel so divorced from the game up there in the clouds.
