    Those Going via Train

Buy a ticket to Ealing Broadway, significantly cheaper and allows you to get off at Paddington.

Great tip but why is it so much cheaper?

Perfect game for Sky if you are a city fan. One of the furthest trips of the season on a Wednesday night, great chance for many who would not be able to go.

Newcastle/PSG that night as well, surely no contest for any neutrals out there as to which game to watch…

Newcastle gutted no doubt when we were chosen for live tv on the same night.

I wasn’t there (spent the day moving my daughter into Uni so couldn’t even follow it) so thanks for the thoughts of a few posters whose views I respect.

I must admit I thought we had about a 10% chance of getting something today (Hull appear to have got the flukey win someone already does against the best side) so a 1-0 defeat to a penalty is about as good as I expected.

It is clearly a blow to lose Vyner but we didn’t sign Dickie to have him on the bench, Weimann’s return is a plus & we also have a free week coming up.

Interesting that TGH was picked out because as well as our midfield has played I’m still not sure the balance is quite right, especially in terms of scoring goals (doubt anyone expected Matty James to have scored them all so far in the league).

Not sure of the timeframe for TC to return but getting him back is important, block of 3 games coming up includes another real tough one in Leeds who seem to have recovered from a ropey start, we should go into the other two with every confidence of a win, though.

I managed to do both. Moved my daughter into Uni at Leicester. Fixture computer was kind. Very emotional day! Shattered afterwards.

People mocked when I called him Korey & Brownhill’s lovechild.

Will need months to bed in they said. Looked lost against Preston they cried. Derby fans didn't even rate him they claimed.  I sat patiently, biding my time. I’ll forgive but I certainly won’t forget.

    Calm down!

I don't believe in coincidences and I'm sure until recently at least it was reported that 80% of the away team goals were scored in front of their own fans in the Atyeo stand.

We can criticise LJ all we want, but he recognised the issue.

Lee Johnson asks Bristol City to reconsider where away fans sit at Ashton Gate - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk)

Given we nearly always play towards the Atyeo first half it may be more about our defensive abilities in the second. Need to be cautious about drawing conclusions when complex factors are at play.

Can only go back in my time, but this has got to be up there..

    Saturday 21 August 1976. Arsenal 0, Bristol City 1.

    Raymond Cashley

    Gary Collier

    Brian Drysdale

    Geoff Merrick

    Gerald Gow

    Jimmy Mann

    Gerry Sweeney

    Trevor Tainton

    Clive Whitehead

    Paul Cheesley

    Thomas Ritchie

    Manager: Alan Dicks

Very difficult to argue with this (in my lifetime a least). Importantly a great team - much more than the sum of their parts.

Why would you need to buy any houses? When the South Stand was originally built no houses were purchased.

Impact of a much taller structure on the occupiers of the end houses on Raynes Road much more significant than existing stand would make securing planning permission challenging.

All along the coast is fantastic, but a favourite is Mwnt Beach (w is a u in Welsh).

Lovely beach and there's a large pod of bottle nosed dolphins just off the beach around 4pm each day.

As I say, loads of lovely places round those parts - why on Earth would anyone from the midlands go to WSM when they have the west Wales coast ?

Mwnt is beautiful- don’t tell anybody though!

    A few observations:

    - Isn't it great to see both City and Rovers in their traditional coloured kits, with both sides wearing white shorts

    - No shirt sponsorships makes both kits look better

    - Both goalkeepers wearing proper green keeper shirts with white shorts and either red or blue socks.

    - Interesting that next to the tunnel on the left hand dugout side you can see fans with blue hats on, and yet when City score, there are loads of fans celebrating behind that same dugout. Was there segregation then in that particular stand?

I was in that stand with my Dad for the Good Friday game and it was pretty mixed. Lots of city but no real animosity either way, even though there was trouble on the pitch and around the ground after.

Yes I remember that , and yes very very wet , got to be honest I use to love going to some those little grounds ,

    have some great memories

I remember that - we were allowed in the stand to avoid getting drenched in the open end.

The photo I found was listed as 1982.
Jan Moller left before the end of the season 1981-82 .
Pretty sure that's Alan Nicholls in the background.
The games left are between Jan -  March 13  when Moller played his last game.
The games were Wimbledon, Huddersfield , Fulham , Portsmouth , Exeter , Oxford and Lincoln.
Of those I doubt Huddersfield , Fulham or Portsmouth would change kits.
I think it could be Keith Cassells challenging for the header, and to back that I found this photo.
    The kit looks similar.

As for the crowd, if I am right , there were over 8,000 there.

    Did we lose 2-0?

    All true.

Gooding & McCaffery were 2 players we borrowed after going bust but the league then changed their mind on whether we could sign players on loan having done so, we were made to send them back.

We argued Carter wasn’t a loan but on a contract until the end of the season so he stayed. He (& Gooding) in particular were really poor players.

After this game & once we sold our only 2 assets in Harford & Moller we went on an 11 game run losing 9 & drawing 2.

Basically it was John Shaw & loads of kids, despite the nostalgia for that era it was grim as hell, crowds were 3 or 4 thousand by seasons end.

Good knowledge! My God it was grim?

I knew 1/2 , had to check my books to check and still don't know the one on the right for sure.

If it is the game I think it is, the team was:

    Moller
    Stevens
    Williams
    Bray
    McCaffery
    Nicolls
    Gooding
    Carter
    Chandler
    Harford
    Hay

    I know most of that team but have no recollection of 2 of them;

*** L. Carter played 16 games for us and the only Gooding I can find played 3.

Carter I think was a winger signed from

Palace. Gooding central midfielder (from Coventry?)

Neither would justify a footnote in our history. Moller and Harford aside we a dreadful team.

Was the 209 at Huddersfield on a midweek night cold enough to freeze off your extremities and few other things besides?

Sorry to be the statistical pedant but the problem with this is that mean (average) is a really poor statistical measure for this type of distribution of data. Far better would be a median with ranges for both the crowd size and the distances. Our only sub 50 mile trip is Cardiff, and at push only Swansea, Reading, West Brom, Birmingham and Coventry are less than 100 miles. The same issue affects Cardiff to a similar degree and Swansea even more.

And Sunderland - only one trip less than 100 miles.

He obviously played a lot more games.........but had not realised that Gerry Gow scored nearly as many  goals as Super Bob  ?

That’s why we all say we need a Gerry Gow. Flippancy aside we’ve not had a consistent goal scoring midfielder for years.
