I can't remember a Gloucester cup final ever attracting more than about 10k (possibly prior to my time of 30 years it may have been different)

Pretty sure we lost that league cup 2nd leg 4-2 & went out on away goals, having beat them 3-1 at Twerton.

Regularly 20,000+ in the 50s at Ashton Gate and Eastville.

Bottom line is. I don’t think any of our players are top half Championship quality.

Vyner is a symptom and not a cause.

I’ve read on here that people think we have very good players.

but who are they? Because they don’t turn up on a Saturday at Ashton gate or a Tuesday in Sheffield.

one game in ten to ‘put a shift in’ isn’t good enough.

There’s no leadership on the pitch.

Sadly very true. There’s lots of talk about inconsistency (either the team or individual) but actually inconsistency is just a symptom of not being good enough at the relevant level.

I’ll be going.I don’t believe any of the rubbish fed to us  by the scaremongering government and scientists.I’ve been triple jabbed and had covid 3 weeks ago and it was just like having a cold.We live with flue with a vaccination every year and we treat covid the same way.The symptoms are so mild that you won’t know you’ve got it.

Apart from all of the dead people of course.

  4. I was too young to remember his first few games so can’t really help. There was something about the team that ultimately got promoted “growing together” though.  72/73 and 73/74 we were good but  inconsistent but by 74/75 the year before  we got promoted we were turning into a really solid side and almost unbeatable at home.

I hadn’t forgotten Gerry (who could), however I believe Alex is a better player at this age than Gow was.

I was privileged to watch Gerry through out his City career, and making the comparison taking into account the passage of time is difficult.

Only time will tell if Alex can forge a career to match the great man, we shall see.

    I hope you’re right!?

He isn’t though is he. Alex is an exceptional talent, far and away the best 17/18 year old the club has ever had, he didn’t come through the Academy from a young age, he was playing and being coached in competitive mens football.

Where is Sam Pearson for instance? Played first team football last season, playing  for Wales at his age group this season, but nowhere near the first team, so playing U23 games for us, surely needs something more competitive to progress.

The lad Britton, played last season, only recently allowed out on loan, yet we’ve flogged Martin when 15-20 mins at the end of games could have made all the difference  to him and us.

Scott apart the only youngsters getting a sniff are because of the injury situation, Benarous and Conway wouldn’t be anywhere near the squad if it wasn’t for injuries.

If we get King, Williams and James back, and buy a striker, I don’t see any young academy players getting a chance,  they’ll be left to play the odd game for the U23’s.

Steady on! I like Alex but we had Gerry Gow at 17!

We’ve all felt like this in the past, but time heals and we forget just how bad we felt under SOD, McInnes, LJ, Holden, it’s nothing new. Just look forward to the future when you’ll have forgotten how bad it used to be and you’ll be ready to have another bout ‘never having felt so detached from the club’. It’s called the City circle of life.

I get that but from a personal basis (and I’ve been watching since 71 this feels an unusually grim/ grey period. Perhaps it’s just my age!

I`m still undecided whether to come up or not TBH. The weather forecast is pretty crap and for me as a self-employed bloke it`s my busy weekend for invoicing and on top of that it`s the end of a VAT quarter. Can I justify spending all day Saturday going up to Bristol and back? There was a time when there would be no question, I`d be there, but now, I really don`t know.

Ditto. I am Devon based as I think are you.

Agree, the commentary from both contributors has been truly awful and clearly biased to Stoke.

That being said, still better than Martin Tyler who doesn’t actually bother to commentate on the action anymore, he just offers inane drivel in the vague guise of commentary.

Rubbish. Not biased at all. Can’t believe you’re having a go at MT, a true legend. Football commentary is not easy.

Do not want bakinson in any team at city. He did exactly nothing to today.

Shows ability at times but does not engaged in the game enough at

    get rid

Rubbish. I have been a big critic of Bakinson but he was good today, especially out of possession.

I have backed Pearson so far, but this could be a turning point for me it's just not working. We have no creativity, no goal threat and defend like rank amateurs.

Bakinson & vyner should no where near the first team there an absolute liability, no idea what Pearson see it them....

Reflects my view entirely. Can’t understand why Pearson would pick them. Quite simply they cannot do the basics.

Whilst the squad is poor it is also the most expensive - by some margin - than any we have had yet the end product is non existent. Pearson has to take some blame.

Delighted for the lad. We will see a lot more of him over the years to come.

Me too. Can’t believe why anybody would want to say anything else after today. What is wrong with people?

Although there are two other clubs who are based in Hammersmith and Fulham whereas with the exception of Liverpool all the other cities you cite have only professional club

Good point and for smaller councils there is always the kudos of having a league football team. Rochdale get mentioned every Saturday afternoon on the tv but somewhere much bigger eg Wakefield doesn’t.

That article doesn't mean Brentford received any local authority support. It actually meant Brentford had to make a financial contribution to the local authority.

As per the report... "Section 106 of the Town & Country Planning Act requires landowners and developers to compensate a local planning authority for things it must build--such as roadways--because of a proposed development. Aspects of S106 agreements include financial contributions towards highway works, town center, education, and maintenance payments for things like affordable housing and public open space."

I realise that - i’m a Chartered Town Planner and am Head of Planning at a south west Council.

But there was a long dialogue between Brentford FC and the Council, who assisted in finding a site before an application was submitted. Ditto Liverpool Council were instrumental in finding a site for Everton.

My own experience while working at a Council includes helping a premiership rugby club find a site.

My point is that local Councils can choose (or not) to help facilitate a relocation/redevelopment.

The contributions under Section 106 are a matter of planning policy and are applicable to all developers.

Comparing Exeter city, with QPR, laughable.

Actually comparing Exeter City Council with Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Would also add that Liverpool City Council , Bradford City Council, Newcastle City Council have actively helped their clubs redevelop and/or relocate. I used Exeter as an example as I live nearby and worked there for several years.

Glad I made thee laugh though?
