Hopefully not as serious as it looks. Just as we are getting players back. Ho hum.

Strongest bench we have had this season
Yep. If I was splitting the tiniest of hairs, a wee bit lopsided to midfield and attack and not so strong in the dedicated CB area, but strongest for ages. Even in defence there are options.

8 of those on the bench could be starters on another day. If Pring and Naismith are back soon, suddenly we are going to need a bigger bench!
-
Other than 15 before half time, dominant from Southampton. Extremely difficult team to play against when they get a goal up.
-
To beat Hull in the sodding play offs.

Me, one week ago, “there is always one team that loses form and crashes from midtable in to the relegation battle. Looking like it could be us...”
Me, now “there is always one team that comes from midtable, has a great run and makes the play offs...”

With the benefit of hindsight, if only we'd held onto that lead v Coventry...
And not lost to Norwich. 3 more points there and less for them.
I imagine every team has ‘what ifs’ across a season, but just shows the thin lines. I think more objectively it’s home defeats to the likes of Stoke and Millwall that sink us.

Umm…as it was the last game of the season and we got the win we had to in order to win promotion (and iirc late on), I’d suggest it was dramatic as a game and as an end to the season…
My memory can very well be playing tricks, but did we not beat Swindon 1-0 the penultimate game to secure promotion? Certainly remember the Swindon game and leaving thinking ‘that’s it, we are up’.
Sure that was 83/84, but it all merges together after a while.

That whole rule around how long you play advantage for needs tightening up. I get that it's a little bit subjective but often I'll see refs play advantage then pull it back 3-4 seconds later (correctly IMO) if the advantage doesn't play out then in other games, the advantage is lost after 1-2 seconds and the official deems the time too long to pull it back.
Think it was the ref in our home tie against Forest who got this right. Some were complaining he took to long to blow for a foul, but ‘his thing’ was to certainly give it long enough to decide to either play a real advantage or bring it back.,

Not bizarre but simply wrong. There was no contact but perhaps from his viewpoint he thought there was in which case the yellow card would have been justified. What's wrong is that, unlike a red card, the yellow card can't be retrospectively overturned.
Just to play devil’s advocate a little, there does not have to be contact if the ref deems it reckless. He went in studs showing, and it was as well he did not make contact. I am not entirely sure it would be overturned if it could be appealed.
Having said that, pretty sure the ref thought there was contact and their player made a meal of it. -
Have to say I felt the same after beating Sunderland, Hull, Watford, thinking the next three of Millwall, Birmingham, Preston could be an opportunity to push on. Rarely works out that way.
We are becoming a cracking counter attacking side. Let’s hope we also have worked out how to unpick sides that sit back and try and pick us off.

As somebody who moons ago plied their trade between the sticks, he gets a rough press, and the No 1 usually does. A striker misses three then pops one in, it’s the goal that gets remembered. A goalie makes three great saves then messes one up it’s the mistake people talk about.
Bentley was decent but for me got stuck on his line far too often. Max will come when he thinks he can win it, and is having I suspect to learn the role of sweeper keeper which he is making a good fist of. That one particularly he will look a wally if and when it goes wrong, as it does for every keeper now and again. His positioning is also good, and often you may think ‘the forward has hit is straight at him, but a good % of that is where he has got himself in the right place. Defence is also about partnerships, and the others around him now know him and what he will do, which is also important.
As for distribution, it’s not always great but he sometimes has to play low % balls to get us out of trouble, or a high press means no easier pass is on.
He is fine. Every goalie messes up, it’s how often. My only concern is the cover one as I have no idea if we really have a number 2 who is Championship ready.

Great performance, 6 wouldn’t have flattered us tonight.
We were so wasteful with the final ball at times, especially in the first half.
Second half we were far more composed and relaxed on the ball.
Which goes to show the players can still improve immensely.
We were great. Lots of matches have ‘what if’ moments and think ours was when we gave the ball away first minute of second half. Different match if they score first.
Was worried at Half time about not being able to sustain it for 90 mins. How wrong was I!

So nearly a self inflicted goal by them. Great at playing out for 45mins, then that within 45 secs.
-
No changes by us at half time.
-
Decent 0-0 in fairness. At least making a real game of it unlike Leeds. Possibly edged that half. Brooks manages to waltz past players. Both sides also defended well overall.
-
Well played Vyner.

Kind of game we might have feared it turning in to in fairness. Not exactly a cracker.
