  1. Really impressive win. As was the win at Fulham. I was a massive LJ doubter but whatever has been reconfigured behind the scenes has paid off massively. We're watching some lovely first touches and pacey counter attacking play. Pleasure to watch.

Congratulations to everyone at the club. And to Lee who's made some big calls and got them right. It might not last and there may be tougher days ahead but it's very promising. Today was a big test and a great derby win.

  2. For what it's worth...from the Millwall official site:

"Harris...was pleased with an "excellent" performance in the West Country.

"We knew had to be on the front foot and ready for the challenge from the beginning," he said. "I thought the performance today from my players was excellent. The team delivered the gameplan to stop Bristol City's strength of passing the ball between the lines. Ultimately, I've got a dressing room that's really proud of the performance, but disappointed they didn't get the three points. I thought we got stronger as the game went on. The subs made an impact, too. Barring a great save by the goalkeeper and hitting the woodwork, we'd be coming away with the three points...we managed the game very well today and were just missing that end product."

  3. Delighted to be able to say that I spent the afternoon enjoying sunshine in Cornwall. Travelling back up in time for the Villa match. This match thread has been a rather deflating read to say the least...what we need are the confident, consistent and commanding performances that well drilled and competent sides are capable of. We sound anything but confident and consistent at the moment...and rarely commanding. Pity, the season started so well...

And good luck to everyone embarking on an epic voyage across the city on this most chaotic of days!

Special mention to the train companies for recognising the difficulties and laying on a total of zero trains to the only accessible station. A big thank you on behalf of 26,000 people.

Over running engineering work means that the first train to get beyond Swindon to Temple Meads arrives at 11. Earlier trains diverted. Waiting at Swindon station. They're not making it easy today.

    P.S- sorry for the essay

No need to apologise. I understand where you are coming from...but a couple of thoughts.

From my perspective, looking back to, say, the 80s, no other manager has had so much offered them and made so little of it. I'd say that we have a squad that's more than capable of at least holding their own at this level and a set up off the pitch that in theory matches the standard required in the second tier. This is the first occasion that I can recall us squandering such resources. In the past we lacked something, usually a squad capable of competing. This time it seems, to me, that what we lack is a competent manager. I saw most of the matches we played under LJ up to Christmas. Something went horribly wrong in that first international break.

And whilst it's true that some managers get away with criticising their player in public, very few do it. If you are Jose you can point to your medals and trophies as justification for your stance. LJ has nothing to fall back on, as a manager or player. Hordur Magnusson, to take one example, has already achieved more in his playing career than Lee Johnson and has a successful career ahead of him. If I was his agent I'd be looking for an exit.

As for the future. I think he's blown it at City. He knew he was a divisive appointment. Not admired as a player, although I personally had no beef with him. If he continues then he's very lucky.

Yes, we do know Johnson was getting rid of Pemberton in the summer, so what part of that equates to Pemberton being thrown under the bus? Seeing as it's openly known that was the plan from before the bad results started, it cannot, no matter how much you want to twist it, cannot be reasonable and logically argued that Pemberton was thrown under the bus.

Johnson has just under a top 10 record since joining us, that record is better than most managers who have taken charge of us at this level, so to jump from that to worst manager we have ever had is absurd at best. Worst at turning things around once it went wrong, that could be argued. But simply worst ever manager is absolutely nonsense.

I'm reluctant to intrude on the ongoing feud between you and Bob, but James, it really isn't nonsense. I'm not sure how long you've been supporting the club, maybe longer than me, but I started a youngster in the early days of the Dicks era. We've not had that many managers since, and for my money, and for all the reasons outlined in the thread addressing the issue, he really is the worst...and getting worse by the week. In addition to his inability to competently manage the playing side of things he now comes across as a completely charmless man, lashing out in the media in a cowardly way at players who can say nothing in return to defend their reputations. I can recall few, if any, of his predecessors who rubbished their own players....

I think you're right. Landsown, by continuously backing Lee, has dug himself a huge whole with this one. Sacking him now with so few games left, giving a new manager very little time will be too little too late.

And SL would lose face - which his past record suggests he doesn't handle well...I'm thinking of the Coppell fiasco and his replacement by the far more comfortable Millen.
