The reason it was chaotic when GJ was sacked was simply because he is a manager who never plans for the future. The club was a mess because of him.

But at the end of the day GJ was a manager for hire...and he's still working. The responsibility for what came after him wasn't Gary Johnson's...it was Steve Lansdown's. It was a responsibility SL failed to rise to. If LJ isn't the manager to lead the club forward it's up to the Board to find someone better. All I'm asking is that before they ditch Lee they have a better plan than they had when they sacked his father, who, for all his limitations, was comfortably one of the more successful managers City have had in the last 30 years.

No backbone in our side at all, I'm sorry if that hurts the happy clappers I respect your positivity but thats the truth.

I was accused of being a GJ "happy clapper". I've got no particular agenda as far as his son goes. What I'd say is that whatever the club does there has to be a plan. When GJ was ditched some on here rejoiced...but what followed was chaotic, and lasted years. If there are to be changes they need to be well thought through...sadly, the backbone at the club isn't only to be found on the pitch...I'd question how much backbone has been shown a the highest level of the club down the years.

To be fair I don't hear many calling for the managers head, just general concerns about how we are playing

To be fair barely anyone on this thread at the moment has much idea how we are actually playing...what people have concerns about is the score. I've been to most of our away matches this season...and despite many of the results we've played pretty well in the majority of them...not that you'd know that from reading the game time posts on here!

I get emotional after a loss and today sounded a good performance. I get that and I'm glad we've played well and created chances against a very organised team.

And I get we've had some interesting scenarios these last few weeks but I don't think it changes things in my mind. QPR and Birmingham haven't been happy hunting grounds but that's all in the past and has no bearing on the current squad. We have the power to change all that and IMO we have the squad to compete with anyone. That's why I get frustrated. I don't want to get complacent with them. They're talented and can finish top 8-10 right now.

Ive said it a thousand times. It's not all about this year and I get there will be ups and downs. I just feel games like today and QPR are matches we need to start winning every once in awhile to grow as a club. It's just as important as improving the stadium, or the academy or adding new coaches. It's all part of growing as a club. A few wins at places like QPR and Birmingham or Leeds helps the club grow as well. I want to see us get a few decent away wins and then we'll really be on our way. We have a chance next week but it won't be easy.

Fair enough. I had a horrible feeling about today and have spent the weekend with the in-laws!

I'd predict a few ups and downs for the rest of the season, but we'll be fine in the end. I'd be surprised but delighted if we finish in the top 10. We'd need to recruit well in January. However, on to next week, where, as you say, we have chance. I suspect we won't take it...But either way we'll have around 3k behind us and it'll be a cracking atmosphere. Been travelling with us for very nearly 36 years now. Hope springs eternal! COYR!!

Played very well second half-by far the better side.. two top class saves kept them in it,their keeper mom so says a lot.

Dead ball delivery dire, short of options up front-created quite a number of chances,so many that you just have to take one at this level..or. .......

Worked hard, good energy,we will play worse and win.

    January window will be interesting.

Thanks for the report...and the refreshing realism!

I'm all for the future of the club but something needs to change for the now. Next weekend won't be easy to pick up a point let alone 3. A loss next week and a few other results against us and we're only 5 above the relegation spots. It's not a foregone conclusion we stay up. Yes today we played a tough team but we had them and couldn't put it away and got punished. Need to sort this out quick. 1 win in 7 against beatable teams is not good enough for a team that spent 10-11m on playing staff in a summer. Yea we need more to be contenders but that's enough to be beating teams like Birmingham, Cardiff and QPR. It's not good enough at the moment.

Trouble is Joe, we don't pick the order in which we play matches. Cardiff had a new boss and raised their game. QPR, we always struggle there and could have won a very tight game. Today...I couldn't see us winning and it sounds as if we did better than I expected. Next week I'lll be at Reading, they're on fire. Brighton are in a different league. These are all tough games...and it was obvious they'd be tough games before this run started. Even Barnsley pulled one back with more or less the last kick of the game. As I said elsewhere, perspective needed. We don't have the squad to walk this division, but we can compete. I see that as improvement. We are, as everyone has said, a work in progress...

  7. Shackled to a corpse methinks. I've got no interest in rugby...when you watch it live you can never work out who on earth has got the ball! Or what on earth is going on half the time. I didn't take up this offer and in truth really don't give two hoots how the rugby lot perform...which I guess is a shame and not the point of Bristol Sport. On the other hand I was really pleased to see the women's football team get promoted...

Yup. I think it's tough for fans at the moment. We've had some wonderful moments this year where we look a class above most in this division and even when we don't, we often get points when we probably shouldn't have. It almost feels each week we should be the favourite so I think we expect winning more often. Not many weeks where I feel we are actually less talented I guess is the best way to put it. Next week will be one of the few matches in the league where I don't expect points.

I tell you what Joe..."tough for the fans" is playing poorly in the bottom division...with trips to York, Grimsby and Carlisle which make Barnsley look glamorous...this is about as good as it's got in the past 30 odd years!

Can't say I'll be rushing to buy the the DVD when it comes out....

Agreed Andy...but anyone who watches football week in week out appreciates that there are two teams out there and you'll not see champagne football every time. Going on the radio to slate a performance like that strikes me as unnecessarily negative.

We are, after all, 6th in the Championship...

  10. It's been a lively week. Go to love the ups and downs of football. City remain...and will all season...a "work in progress". For those who can't get to matches and read the match thread, do have faith. Some of the ill informed posts in this thread are priceless.

It's not all perfect, we've made some daft mistakes, but the team play with heart and verve and very nicely at times. We've signed some very promising young players. Onward, and I suspect, upward.

Ok from one who was there...here's my perspective.

Tomlin buries the Penalty then it was game over.

O'Neil resists the cynical tackle then we would have had the extra man advantage.

These things obviously didn't happen...I'm currently sat with several Wednesday fans and their summaries go from "That were a crazy five minutes" "How did we win that" "I can't believe how lucky we were your man missed the pen" "Your boys battered us 1st half and turned off in the 2nd" "Play like that and you're gonna have a good season" "we robbed you"

Now for what it's worth I think we folded when then pressure was applied...Bannan yet again bosses the midfield and we just watched as he pinged balls around and made ours look silly.

The meltdown I've read through on here wasn't quite what I witnessed at Hillsborough.

Conceded again isn't great and yes I'm pissed off we lost in the manner we did but I think it was a fair result.

I'm also sitting in a pub with Wednesday fans who can't believe that they won. Having watched the match I can't express how disappointing that result was. We absolutely had them when Tomlin  stepped up to take the pen.

The good news is that we were very good in the first half! I've never seen such a turn around as the pen miss and O'Neil dismissal. After that we seemed to stop playing the neat and careful possession football that we'd been playing all game. But hey ho. What a torture it is to follow City sometimes!
