Interesting, but how many top clubs consistently progress to the later rounds?

Also many top clubs, especially Man City they play full strength sides all the way through so they are clearly not worried

What it does take away is the potential money maker from an additional game, but personally I like the idea of playing to a result on the day

It also means no stupid midweek trips

Agree, but ultimately how often does a smaller club get a replay with a big club?

Quite a few big clubs progress to the later rounds in last 15 years

    Man Utd 6 times

    Man City 8 times

    Chelsea  9 times

    Liverpool 2 times

    Arsenal 4 times

i make that 29 out of 80 which is 36.25% of all semi finalists in last 15 years,

Also take into account times they meet before the semi final stage as it’s an open draw ( this years QF Man Utd v Liverpool , 3rd round Arsenal v Liverpool).

Just using the 5 above as examples depends who you class as big.

Just makes it easier for these clubs to play stronger teams and chance of youngsters in weakened teams could well be less.

  2. With any law in football it is all open to interpretation. I would say Huddersfield one is a pen sliding in with arm raised away from body, trying to make himself larger is an unnatural position.

Played football to a reasonable standard and quite easy to dive in with one arm beside you and other away from ball controlling the slide/jump.

Bournemouth one, I would say no pen. To me looks like he’s moving out the way of the deflection  (natural turn and was above the shirt line).  One not given is a joke (ref gave a trip  so block after doesn’t count in the box) big cop out by VAR to cover there error.

What one person says is a pen another will say no.

The season seems to end earlier and earlier in non league, no idea why they don't schedule at least into the first weekend in May

Obviously lots of FA Cup etc matches at the start of the season, but surely make the most of the better weather at the start of the season and get a couple of extra midweek fixtures in to lesser the pressure

I hate to say it but stopping FA Cup replays from the start would help

I help out at a NWCFL side, we had a 24 team league this season and played Saturday midweek from end of July till end of September except for 1 midweek.

What doesn’t help is all cups take priority (Fa  Cup, FA Vase, county and 2 league cups) so when a game is off away from home you cannot play a league game for they take priority. Leagues need to as I said previously need to set a pitch standard and stop teams making money by hiring pitches out in the week and trashing them.

I think we will have played 57 games when we end season next week. That’s a lot of games to squeeze in, would of been more if we had some luck in the cups. Too many games at this level, trouble is we are based in Greater Manchester and FA are considering moving us and others into the midlands league to square up the numbers (Midland had 18 last season).

if we move think we will fold for couldn’t commit to the travelling. All in the hands of the FA now

It was 10, and could yet be 11 more games

Their game this evening has been postponed

    20240403_171341.jpg

Now playing on the 17th April tonight’s postponed game.

Colne and Charnock Richard now playing 7 games in 9 days

FA have told both clubs failure to complete fixtures will result in relegation for both teams.

Not just that. It's the expense and time of getting the team to the other side of the country. Players and staff with jobs that can't take time off work etc

It's probably good that clubs understand "their level".

Then you get clubs like Bitton that overspend by trying to keep up and land themselves in a load of financial trouble.

Rumours are that next season clubs from Greater Manchester may well have to move to the Midlands league.  All depends on who comes up and down.

  6. Makes it worse Charnock Richard has just as bad a fixture list.

League have said they can extend season if the games left don’t have an effect on promotion. Both teams have so many games left they both can still make the play offs. Going to be interesting to see how this works out.

  7. Played really well, thought we were better side 1st half. When we got the 3rd injury Man City seemed to go up a level and had a few chances end of 1st half.

Second half played well should have scored Bak/Yeboah between them should have. Philips unlucky with his  effort but by then the fresh legs of Man City were kicking in. Last 20 mins only looked like one team would score.

Third sub interesting debate was 8 mins added time, good 10 mins with 10 men or bring on a sub. 50/50 call.

Why a break for Ramadan in stoppage time, nothing in laws about having one and if they played nearly whole half without a break why not the extra few mins. Just because it’s sunset does not mean they have to eat/drink straight away. Just stopped the flow of the game.

Campbell Slowey, Philips and Hewlett were my stand outs. James thought was a bit disappointing defensively left too much space for there wide player, was great going forward and winning headers from goal kicks.

The  number 8 for Man City how he never got backed I do not know, commuted at least 4 cynical fouls.

Bacup Borough were always a problem in that league, don't know if they still are. I remember a few years ago they had to play 5 in 7 days in the last week of the season in order to finish on time.

Still struggle to play home games, doesn’t help there pitch is surrounded by hills.

Last season they had season extended for they made both cup finals and played cup games at home but kept calling off league games at home.

  9. NWCFL Charnock Richard have 13 games in 28 days

    Colne have the same

Weather hasn’t been good, but it also has brought up the question why should teams spend all there cash on players. Maybe they should get there pitches up to a good standard, something the leagues may need to consider.

  10. Haven’t been to Ashton Gate since NP was sacked, will not give the club my money anymore.

Live in Manchester and spend my time helping/working for a non league side, the ex pros who watch and play at this level cannot believe we got rid of NP and PA. They all mention how much of a car crash our club is now and how we are now a running joke at how bad we are run.

When NP and PA were there we were held in high regard and according to these ex pros players will not be signing for us in the summer. This is due to the regard we are now seen as a club and they all believe we are heading one way unless we have a big clear out top to bottom.

  11. Before the game he said on Sky only 7 subs due to injuries, Saturday was because of youth cup coming up. Which is it and if it is because of injuries didn’t we sack the last medical team due to injuries allegedly.

Why in January didn’t we bring in some players instead of loaning them back if the squad is so thin. NP said we were short of players but no one higher up seems to listen and think they know better.

Was at Hampton & Richmond v Macclesfield in r5 on Saturday. Macclesfield were far and away the better team. Brought a decent away following too. Their two wingers were particular stand out performers. They're flying up through the leagues following reforming, fancy them to go all the way.

Not finding it so easy this season, just outside the play offs at the moment. Some big teams and money at that level this season.

His (and Peps) constant moaning over the Christmas period fixtures & FA cup replays winds me up.

They knew what they were signing up for before managing here, fed up with what seems to be the constant battles  there are each year with them two over the English game.

Wont miss all his moaning one bit.

They will be playing an extra 2 group games in the Champions league and maybe 2 qualifiers from that group stage next season but that’s ok for they will get more money for that. Maybe they should stop travelling the world pre season and give the players extra time off.

How many titles has he won in his time so far as Liverpool manager. I believe he has won 1 Pl, FA cup, League Cup and champions league. It’s good but not as much as he should for the amount spent.

Still struggling to see how Peter Wright got in this!

Peter Wright is still number 8 in the world. Danny Noppert should be a bit aggrieved twice now he’s been ignored as world number 7. Going on rankings Noppert should be in instead of Luke Littler.

He’s up there (depending on your data source)

Open play creation or total chances created.

We need someone who can play a great ball through. Seen him 4 times this season twice against us and 2 other times when over Hull due to another game being called off and he didn’t create much in open play all set pieces. That’s why I’m interested to find out what the breakdown is, all 4 games I have seen him he has looked lost out wide.

  17. Is it correct that Twine has created the most chances this season? If so do we know how many are from open play and so many from set pieces. Ok putting in great set pieces but we miss a player who can play that final pass to our forwards.
Steven Gerrard use to make most chances per season at Liverpool but then he took every set piece so the figures were slightly skewed.
