For me, when they start turning into red cards.  As it stands, if he gets to 10 yellows, before game week 38 (which is pretty likely), then I’d treat his one game suspension as a nice little rest game.  That sounds blasé, it probably is, but I would t want him to stop the way he tackles.  He puts pressure on opponents first touch.

Stats (League only) as at end of October, so missing the last few games before WC break and after.

To explain, they are percentile ranks for all CMs in the champ, some 190 players have played there this season! Anything to the right of the red line means he is in the top half of players.

Taking the creative passing section, he is top quarter for number of key passes attempted per 90 mins, not far off the sane for Smart passes, and top third for success.

He passes just below average in terms of into the pen area, but when he does, he’s top 20%.

    etc, etc.

For a 19 year old he’s one of the better (better than half the others) creative passers in the Champ.

    General passing - about average.

Winning the ball - not really an alleged strength, but…

…he certainly gets stuck in.  Gets involved in lots of “duels”, doesn’t win as many as he could, but as above I think he makes the player worry when pressed.  I wish I could see how many times a team give up possesion when Scott presses them.

You can do a similar exercise with the other categories too.

Shout if you need anything else explained.

    10 yellows I thought was a 2 match ban.

    Really bizarre comment.

Would be really interested to know what you think HNM actually brings to the side?

He looked promising when he first came here and was busy and had good energy, but he’s really gone backwards and about the only thing he’s maintained is his ‘massive’ hair!

I can’t think of anything he actually excells in, or adds to the side when he’s on the pitch and is way behind in Alex Scott in terms of end product or potential imho.

If you read  my comment I said HNM does as much work as Scott, but gets belters on here for lack of end product.

Scott has played 2nd most minutes I think for us this season and has 4 assists, I think only 3 from open play. For a player who has a lot of talent and ability to only have 3 assists all season from  open play is a disappointing return.
Weimann has more assists this season from open play.

People are saying Scott is worth £20 million and heading for the premier league but personally at the moment think he isn’t producing enough end product for someone with such talent.

Is the formation we are playing holding him back or he just isn’t performing at the moment and not producing the end product he should be.

I was under the impression that the Vase is what used to be the FA Amateur Cup. In which case I'm surprised at the low number of entrants.

    It’s for step 5 and 6 sides level 9 and 10.

64 teams left in it,  for now in the 3rd round. Been 2 qualifying rounds and 2 rounds proper so far. This is the last regional round before draw goes National.

Taking my feelings out of the discussion, I found this piece from ESPN. Actually quite good, whether you agree with it or not, it does go some way to explain the thinking.

    https://www.espn.co.uk/football/fifa-world-cup/story/4807433/var-review-why-iran-got-a-penalty-but-harry-maguire-was-not

    For the Iran Pen;
"With Pouraliganji, the ball was crossed in close proximity to him, which meant the shirt pull from Stones was deemed to prevent the opponent from challenging for the ball"
    For England non Pen;
"In the case of Maguire, it was deemed that even with the holding offence by Cheshmi, the ball was not in immediate playing distance. Therefore, the England player was not prevented from competing from the ball."

"So, what's the difference for the VAR? One key consideration is whether an attacking player is prevented from being able to challenge for the ball; ergo, would he have had a chance of playing the ball without the challenge? It's not the only factor, as a penalty could still be awarded for holding, but the VAR will put a great amount of stock on this."
Added to that, Maguire also had his arm around Cheshmi, which will also be taken into account by the VAR as a holding offence by both players.

I would argue that Maguire tries to run past the marker and his arm (being attached to his body) has to go somewhere when he is Rugby tackled. As for not being in playing distance, if you are stopped from running by being pulled to the ground, there is little chance of getting close to playing the ball. But at least it gives some idea of the thought process.

    The Ecuador disallowed goal;
This was the correct decision, though it wasn't at all clear for fans and it took quite some time for the 3D visualisation to be shown.

I actually agree with this , my problem is elsewhere.

When the free kick was played into the area, Ecuador defender Felix Torreschallenged Qatar goalkeeper Saad Al-Sheeb. The ball fell to Michael Estrada, who headed it back to Torres for him to create the goal for Valencia. However, when Torres got a touch on the ball (the direction it travels, forwards or backwards, is irrelevant) Estrada had one foot ahead of the second-last defensive player, who was Abdelkarim Hassan.
The review took longer than a regular offside check because the offside VAR, Tomasz Listkiewicz, had to be certain that the ball came off Torres. Without that, Estrada would not have been offside.

So my take , at least now as at the time I was convinced he was ok and the VAR shown was useless , is the decision is right. That said , and this annoyed me at the time, the 3D image from VAR takes the Keeper out of the picture when clearly he is a player and involved.

    1531501616_Screenshot2022-11-22at07_58_57.png.b6c833e7f77f27a2b269255002e09b2b.png

That image shows the striker clear of the defender, my problem is as there is a defender much further back towards goal, the keeper is in effect the "last man" and should be taken into the equation . Now from the photos and clips I've seen , the guy is still off, what I don't get is why take the keeper out? Makes me think they have made a mistake thinking the guy in red above, is the last man.

    1807613521_Screenshot2022-11-22at08_10_14.png.a00d61472a4b4068c39c06afe632fb70.png  1140143544_Screenshot2022-11-22at08_05_49.png.2adb7ba5ebc7b00bdcb84585192bd0cc.png

Crap grab, but you can see a defender closer to goal than the keeper. I do think the strikers foot is just offside.
I hope that VAR have better images because I'm still not sure who actually gets the touch, but allowing for them having clear footage, it looks like it's the right decision.

I don't feel any better, as it just feels like excuses , rather than explanations for the Penalty decisions. I do worry that VAR will play a big part in who wins the World Cup, and that has to be wrong.
Lets hope today is free of VAR arguments .

With the Maguire one how do they know he isn’t in the area to get the ball. If someone wins the header and heads it back to where he should be then he has been prevented from scoring. All still the same phase of play, do think they make it up as they go along.

Western League clubs and below go in the Vase. Clevedon are in the Western League prem, Bridlington and Hallet in Western League 1.

Thanks, they have dropped a few levels, surprised Mangotsfield was in there as well. Is that the old Toolstation/screwfix league now.

  6. Hadn’t realised Clevedon Town had dropped so many levels and are now in the Vase.

Can’t work out why they are in it, for they seem to be a higher level than Hallen and Brislington as an example. Have the leagues been restructured and that’s the competition they have to play in?

Because of last week and didn’t make any effort to slow the Ferrari down this.

Only lost 2 pts last week, Leclerc gained 3 this week. Max was told not to slow down on the radio due to Leclerc being able to use DRS if he got to close.

What does make me laugh is last night at 6pm 3 balloons in the arena but the decision is made at last minute. 5:30am today and you couldn’t get anymore balloons in the arena if they tried. They know for hours if not days what the plan is..

Came down from Manchester for a couple of days this week and went on Thursday. The new green or red flare system is a joke, Thursday evening 6 balloons in arena when flare went off. Friday morning got there 5.40 arena full of balloons unpacked but had to wait for the flare.

I do think they are treating people badly there £20 to park is ridiculous in an allegedly free event. Paid £10 for 2 days parking at a festival last weekend, would like to know who is getting those £20 from each car and if you park closer it’s even dearer.

Quite a few people around me Thursday were saying they were considering not going again for paying £20 parking to be told hour later no balloons going up and with young kids staying for the night glow is very difficult, and if they did would cost a lot to feed and entertain them. Even the night glow advertised for 9 didn’t start till 9.30.

No mate. I’m just not an angry tribal fan who can’t see the full picture. I can also judge referring decisions impartially despite only supporting one of the teams playing. VAR would have proven no contact but it would have also given a penalty in the first half to Hull. VAR has ruined premier league football.  Thankfully it hasn’t yet had a chance to ruin EFL football

Trouble with VAR is what we think is a penalty always isn’t given if they think it wasn’t an obvious error. Even though it might be a penalty any doubt VAR will not over turn it.

  10. Why do we have to pay a booking fee on any tickets we buy. If it’s do to with a person having to do the work, why no booking fees on anything we buy from the shop.

Didn't we change the computer system a few years ago and were told booking fees were temporary till the software was paid for.

It just seems a big ripoff not just from our club but everyone regards booking fees.

Heard they pulled out last night?

Yes,  Curt Smith pulled a rib so they pulled out

Natalia Imbruglia was great and Alison Moyet did an extended set of just over an hour and was superb as usual.

Good thing is we all get a full refund and been told be in our accounts in 3 week max ? so got a free concert last night.

They are due at Derby Cricket  ground Tuesday,  be interesting to see if he’s fit by then.
